I haven't tried the page with NVDA, but I just tried to read Verizon's page of accessible phones, and it constantly brings up a chat window for chatting with a sales person, and I'm just trying to read the page. I cannot even go back, I can only close that tab and re-open it, and I can't get more than a line read about their phones. Anyone have recommendations on talking flip phones? BTW, finally, when I was put into a chat window I didn't like, I took that opportunity to type in a complaint about their page with a screenreader. Isn't that ironic?

Re: PC Problem
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
The first thing which comes to mind is not malware or anything like that but some application which prevents the computer from shutting down. If you use Jaws it may or may not say something, but the first thing I would do is get a sighted person to look at the computer screen when you are shutting it down and see if there are any messages, you could also use Aira or Be My Eyes if you have a smartphone and one or both of these apps. It maybe as simple as finding which application prevents the computer from shutting down and making sure said application is closed. Another thing you can do is check your Task Manager before you want to shut down the system and see if any applications are running or if all are background tasks.

This may not be a permanent solution for you, but I wonder if it’ll work. I personally like these kidns o commands and their decisive nature and quick results, but you may prefer to shutdown throught eh gui. Try this. Make sure everything you need is saved before this because you will get no warning. Open the run dialogue box with windows key + r Type in the following, without quotes: “shutdown /s /f /t 0” Your machine should shut down almost instantly. If it doesn’t, yaeh, something is definitely amiss.

Hi all, I'm sending this email out because I experienced a problem on my computer. The problem that I have is that my computer won't turn off everytime when I use the normal way to shut it down. I did everything I could to solve this problem but in the end, it was useless. Everytime when I attempt to shut down the computer, it says shutting down on the screen but the fan and the LED light next to the power button still remain on. When I first experienced this problem I thought that I packed my laptop with the switch facing down the backpack. After I realized this, I immediately corrected how I packed my laptop and the problem still existed. The laptop will get very hot from the fan and the fan will remain running until the computer battery drains out. Have you all experienced this problem before? If so, how did you fix it? I'm using an HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-ds0xxxs laptop with Windows10 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1237 and Jaws 2021 latest update. Please let me know if there is a way to solve this or not. I don't think there is necessarily a need for a clean install, you can always do one if you find there are issues, but I would do the in-place upgrade first and if all is well you save yourself a lot of time.

I have received an update notice that Windows 11 is available for my computer, however, I was informed, that the download could not go ahead because, I do not have the necessary function turned on in the BIOS. As I have said previously, I am going to wait for at least 6 months to a year, before I upgrade. And, when I do upgrade, I will probably perform a new install of Windows 11.

Hi Glenn,
I forgot to mention in my last e-mail to you, that this LG flip phone is about $30.00. Of all the inexpensive cell phones with buttons that I’ve seen this is well-built and works very well. The sound quality is GREAT!!!

Hi Glenn,
I’m very sorry for not replying to your inquiry sooner. Since you are interested in a flip phone, if you can look at the LG Classic L 125 DL, I’m sure you would like it. If you need a 5G phone this is not the one. It’s just a 4G version. I don’t know if LG has come out with a 5G version of this flip phone.
Hope this helps?

Hi, since this is OT, please respond just to me instead of the list if you can. I have a Kyrosera flip phone, and I want to get a new flip phone. I'm using Verizon, but I may switch if Verizon does not have a good phone. The voice on mine sucks and it makes it hard to use. Thanks for any recommendations. Glenn

Hi again, Barbara. Since ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow is not a toggle command, it should always turn your screen right side up. If the screen is already right side up, ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow won't change your screen at all.

Hi, Barbara. Before attempting to press ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow, try pressing the "passthrough" command in JAWS, which is JAWS key plus three on the numbers row, not the NumPad. Then after pressing the passthrough command, then try ALT plus CONTROL plus Up Arrow, and see if your screen rotates right-side up.

Hi- Periodically I mistakenly hit some combination of keystrokes that turns my screen sideways (landscape). When I searched for keystroke to change it to portrait, what I got was alt-ctrl-arrow – but the problem is that is a JAWS command for tables and when I do it, JAWS keeps telling me that I am not in a table (which I obviously know.
Any suggestions? Having a sideways screen is a problem when I am on a Zoom and also when I ask someone to help me with something on my computer.
Thanks, Barbara

Heya.
You can press jaws key + 3 to pass the next key through to whatever application. This will make jaws ignore whatever you type net.
That said, what kind of device are you using? Usually on a pC monitor, landscape is what you want; portrait is mostly for mobile devices.

Those don’t sound like the right keystrokes to me. Alt-m should open the media menu. There is a pretty comprehensive list of keyboard commands at video lan…go there and check it out, or just do a google search.

Good morning everyone,
Just wanted all of you too know, that I was able too start playing the ACB New York state convention Stream with VLC media player. Now, I have some questions regarding there options. The shortcut options say that if you want too raise the volume, you should press the alt I key. If you want too lower it says that you should hit the alt key E. and too mute the playing of the particular stream that you are listening too, hit the alt key M key. I do have audio ducting enable using Jaws 2021 latest version, and am running windows 10. Could this be causing any of those combinations keys that I listed above, be the cause of the problem that I’m having? Or should I call the Microsoft disability answer desk, too uninstall my current version of VLC media player, and install it again? The thing is, I can’t even get any new updates that might be available.
Any help or advice about this ongoing issue would be very much appreciated.
Al However when I’m trying too hit any of these combinations keys, I can’t raise the volume, or hit the key combination M key too mute a media stream, none of them seem too work

newer version of this phone that might be better. it talks right
out of the box though and i love the battery power i get. remember
though it's a 5 year old phone. also it's only 3g so you only get
talk and text on it which is all i am interested in anyway. hope
