Those don’t sound like the right keystrokes to me. Alt-m should open the media menu. There is a pretty comprehensive list of keyboard commands at video lan…go there and check it out, or just do a google search.

Subject: Issue regarding VLC media player.

Good morning everyone,

Just wanted all of you too know, that I was able too start playing the ACB New York state convention  Stream with VLC media player.  Now, I have some questions regarding there options.  The shortcut options say that if you want too raise the volume, you should press the alt I key.   If you want too lower it says that you should hit the alt key E.  and too mute the playing of the particular stream that you are listening too, hit the alt key M key. I do have audio ducting enable using Jaws 2021 latest version, and am running windows 10.  Could  this be causing any of those combinations keys that I listed above, be the cause of the problem that I’m having?  Or should I call the Microsoft disability answer desk, too uninstall my current version of VLC media player, and install it again?  The thing is, I can’t even get any new updates that might be available.

Any help or advice about this ongoing issue would be very much appreciated.

Al  However when I’m trying too hit any of these combinations keys,  I can’t raise the volume, or hit the key combination M key too mute a media stream, none of them seem too work

moderated rotating screen (mine ended up sideways)

Barbara Black

Hi-

Periodically I mistakenly hit some combination of keystrokes that turns my screen sideways (landscape).  When I searched for keystroke to change it to portrait, what I got was alt-ctrl-arrow – but the problem is that is a JAWS command for tables and  when I do it, JAWS keeps telling me that I am not in a table (which I obviously know.

Any suggestions? Having a sideways screen is a problem  when I am on a Zoom and also when I ask someone to help me with something on my computer.

Thanks,

Barbara

When you're in the footnote text, there's an option in the context menu to "go to footnote". It takes you to the point in the main text where the footnote mark appears. This is the quick way to return to where you were when you inserted the note.

Alt+s, then f to add additional footnotes. Goto dialog to move between text and footnotes. Draft view in order to read everything with JAWS.

I checked the Microsoft help, but it mentions the Review Tab and I didn't find anything on Footnotes there.

Hi Tom/all,
Yes, word has a shortcut and it's all very useful, perhaps not as handy as that by the old wordperfect. When you type and want to insert a footnote, just press control-alt-f and it will open with the corresponding number. Once you have typed it, just arrow up if it is the first one and you will get yourself back to main text. My suggestion which works is to use alt-home, then alt-end which gets you back to where the note was inserted. If I want to look at a note I usually hit alt-shift-e and read it albeit in a way of preview, but it is quicker than the technique suggested to read it without having to speed that.
Hope this helps,
Takis

Hello,
Does anyone know of a good but easy way of using Footnotes in Word with JAWS? I have to write a few things where I'll need to footnote or document my sources, like title and page number.
I don't remember what that looks like from school. Does Word have an area you can use for footnotes, like you do for headers? Does it work using JAWS?

the voice is good. i would say it speaks 98 percent of everything on the phone. the things it doesn't speak are some menues. those are ones i don't usually have to access though. when texting the speach is a little slow. mind you this phone is one i got in 2016. so i don't know if there is a newer version of this phone that might be better. it talks right out of the box though and i love the battery power i get. remember though it's a 5 year old phone. also it's only 3g so you only get talk and text on it which is all i am interested in anyway. hope this helps you.

Sometimes malware will turn it off and you may not be aware that it is turned off.

Hi,

I know of no scripts for JAWS available for this antivirus software. It would help if you originally told us what version of HAWS you are running along with whether you are using Windows 7 or 10.

For me I’m running the public beta of JAWS 2022 and Windows 10 H1..

Just be aware that, if you have a whole bunch of notes, arrowing up will put you to the previous note, rather than the text, hence I follow the control-home then control-end to reach the last bit past the footnote and continue my work.

I was not following the steps exactly for adding the second or third footnote, etc. I thought I should use control+end to get passed what I had written, but that messes it up.
Just up arrowing back to the text, and hitting enter to start a new paragraph, or just keeping on typing, allows the hotkey to work properly.

Thank you.

Hi Tom/all,
Yes, word has a shortcut and it's all very useful, perhaps not as handy as that by the old wordperfect.
Hope this helps,
Takis

Subject: Word, Footnotes and JAWS

Hello,
Does anyone know of a good but easy way of using Footnotes in Word with JAWS? I have to write a few things where I'll need to footnote or document my sources, like title and page number.
I don't remember what that looks like from school. Does Word have an area you can use for footnotes, like you do for headers? Does it work using JAWS?

I haven't tried the page with NVDA, but I just tried to read Verizon's page of accessible phones, and it constantly brings up a chat window for chatting with a sales person, and I'm just trying to read the page.

I cannot even go back, I can only close that tab and re-open it, and I can't get more than a line read about their phones.

Anyone have recommendations on talking flip phones?

BTW, finally, when I was put into a chat window I didn't like, I took that opportunity to type in a complaint about their page with a screenreader.

Isn't that ironic?

Just be aware that, if you have a whole bunch of notes, arrowing up will put
you to the previous note, rather than the text, hence I follow the
control-home then control-end to reach the last bit past the footnote and
continue my work.

Takis,
You are right.
I was not following the steps exactly for adding the second or third
footnote, etc. I thought I should use control+end to get passed what I had
written, but that messes it up.
Just up arrowing back to the text, and hitting enter to start a new
paragraph, or just keeping on typing, allows the hotkey to work properly.

Thank you.

I don't know if I will need footnotes anytime soon, but I wanted to make
sure I knew how to when the time comes that I want to use them.

Thanks very much,

If I keep writing, and want to addd a second footnote, how is this done?

Are all applications closed?

Are you using alt+f4 and picking shut down?

If the answer to the two questions is yes, then you probably need to hold the power button after a minute or two of waiting for it to shut down so you are shutting down manually.

There of course may be power option settings that need fixing.

Is the computer under warranty, so you could call HP?

I'm also guessing that your windows isn't trying to update before shutting down? When shutting down, at least in Windows 10, that can be an option.

Hi all, I'm sending this email out because I experienced a problem on my computer. The problem that I have is that my computer won't turn off everytime when I use the normal way to shut it down. I did everything I could to solve this problem but in the end, it was useless. Everytime when I attempt to shut down the computer, it says shutting down on the screen but the fan and the LED light next to the power button still remain on. When I first experienced this problem I thought that I packed my laptop with the switch facing down the backpack.
After I realized this, I immediately corrected how I packed my laptop and the problem still existed. The laptop will get very hot from the fan and the fan will remain running until the computer battery drains out.
Have you all experienced this problem before? If so, how did you fix it?
I'm using an HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m-ds0xxxs laptop with Windows10 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1237 and Jaws 2021 latest update.
Please let me know if there is a way to solve this or not.
Thanks
