It all depends on your needs, wants and finances. When I went blind I bought my first Mac, I had used Windows for nearly 20 years at that point in time. You will have to pry my Mac out of my dead cold hands, I currently on a Windows machine and I hate it.

If you already know one system; I'd stick with that system.
They are quite different, and unlearning one to switch to another is a lot of work.

And you’re also using some version of MS Word? In that case, highlight the word or passage you wish to underline, then press control-u. JAWS will announce something like, “Underline.”

One caveat that will be obvious to people with sight but not those without: if you underline, italicize or bold something and then continue typing right away, the newly typed text will also be underlined, etc. What I do to prevent this from happening is to add a comma after the text I’m about to underline. When I’ve completed the underlining, I add a space after the comma, then delete the comma, which won’t have been underlined. Of course, if you want a comma there anyway, all the better.

No, this doesn’t happen when you use Jaws 2022.

               Hi,

I’m running JAWS 2021 and have just upgraded to Windows 11.

When I first press alt tab, before the first app is announced I get extraneous verbiage which sounds something like:

“Task switching, task switching desktop Windows amrl source, running apps, list box.”

Does anyone else get this, and can anyone confirm whether this is fixed in JAWS 2022 Beta 2?

Cheers,

Ed

Two minor additions. First, as Richard (I think it was) said, once you’ve typed the search and replacement terms, the shortcut to search and replace all terms is alt-a.

Second, to get out of search-and-replace, I find I need to press the escape key twice.

I’m not sure I’m understanding the first part of your message properly, but if you are already in a Word document and want to find and change a word, then use control h and type the word you want to change. Then use the tab key to find the edit field where you want to type the alternative word. You can choose to do this just once or make the changes for every occurrence. Then tab to ok.

Hi all,

First, I am writing a word document, and I want to replace a person’s name with a different name. Isn’t there a way to find the name in the document, and replace it  with another? I thought there was a key stroke to use to find the word  you want    to replace.

Second, what is the key stroke to do a  wordcount in a document? I am using jaws 2021 office 2019 and windows ten. Jim

Open Contacts.

Press your applications key, or shift+f10.

Arrow down once maybe twice, to New Contact Group.

The rest I think is pretty much the same as before.

Hello,

I have been using Outlook in Office 365 for a year now and I am having difficulty setting up a new email/contact list.  Previously, I was using Office 2010 and it was relatively simple.  I went into the address book, went to file, new entry and found new contact group.  I’m not sure wear to find new contact group.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Try installing the Jaws 2022 beta since FS says it is required to use Windows 11 fully.

Steve, the approach you describe is faster for changing user verbosity than going through the Quick Settings.  Thank you. Punctuation changes didn't get remembered, though.  I wonder if it be nice to have verbosity profiles, like voice profiles or speech and sound schemes?

Thanks guys for these shortcuts.

I belong to a creative writing group and we often have to write pieces which are word-limited and until I saw these suggestions, the only way I could do this was by using f6.

The find and replace command is control+h. The first box is what you what to find; tab to the next box and put in your replace it with. Then, Alt-a will replace all.
If anything goes south on you, control+z is your friend.

I think you can get to word count with alt+r then w.
I'm away from my computer, so cannot double check that.
