It all depends on what type of job you are looking for and the size of the company. I worked for the Social Security Administration for 34 years before retiring. They had a department that was responsible for assistive technology testing as well as writing needed scripts to make it all work. I know absolutely nothing about scripting and was extremely successful in my various jobs with the agency. If you want to learn scripting, then do it. But you can certainly go through life without knowing it. Lori Lynn

I have to agree. It has nothing to do with JAWS. Perhaps the NAGDU (Not Another Guide Dog User) group or GDUI would be more suitable for this topic.

Questions using Chicken Nugget
Ralph Supernaw
Hi,
I downloaded and installed the latest version of Chicken Nugget and successfully tied it to my Twitter account. I am pretty confused about how to use it. My only previous experience with Twitter is using Twitterific on my iPhone. If anyone is familiar with both Twitterific and Chicken Nugget, would you please give me some pointers? 1. How do you read replies to a tweet or read a thread the tweet is part of? How do you activate a link contained in a tweet? How do you read the tweets in a timeline? Thanks for any help.

To succeed, you need many tools with which to create a toolbox. Knowing JAWS scripting is just another tool in that toolbox. You never know when and where you will need to leverage that technical skill.

Hi, I would greatly benefit to set up some mail rules as sometimes I miss an email. I have tons of mail everyday. I always seem to mess up he rules and pull the hair out of my head trying to fix it. Can you explain a few samples of setting up a mail rule? I am using office 365 with the latest jaws with windows 10. Thanks so much in advance. Andy and Leroy

Sad to say, with my version of jaws 2021 and running the latest version of Outlook, jaws does the same thing as what you mentioned
Only NVDA will tell, activate or disable rules in that dialog area. Even the Narrator has better respond in that area.

outlook 2019 with jaws 2019 and activating mail rules
William Windels
Hello,
When I am in the list of my mail rules, I can’t see with jaws if a rule is active without opening the mail rule. In the mail rule, in the last screen, there I can turn on/off the checkbox to enable/disable the rule. I supose, I can turn on/off the mailrule from the rulelist but Jaws isn’t giving any feedback.
Is this normal/known bug or doe I need a specific setting? Kind regards,

Yes, and that is a very unfortunate thing and I wish there were a way to choose whether a photo should be sent as a proper attachment or as an embedded attachment which are much harder to access.

I’ve actually noticed the reverse situation too at times.
It seems that whenever someone sends me an e-mail with an attachment, using an IPhone, Jaws does not announce the existence of an attachment, even though an attachment is cleary there and can be accessed via shift tab.

Hello:
It is often the case that JAWS will indicate that an email has an attachment but in fact there is no attachment that we can open. This seems to happen with messages which appear as web pages more than email. It’s just one of those things in the modern age.☺️
Kind regards,
Curtis Chong
Hi All,
I think I started this thread, and I wasn’t using preview, so there was a glitch at some point that I encounter every once in a while. When it happens, shift tab and JAWS key plus A don’t work. I do know that it happens consistently if people embed the attachment in the email message itself.

Hi, Zel. Apparently, what they are doing is looking at the message in Message Preview, without actually opening the message. JAWS key plus A won't work in this case. I actually go into Outlook Options, under the General Category, and turn off Live Preview. This makes it necessary to press ENTER to see a message, and once a message is open, you can use either JAWS key plus A to get to attachments, or you can use SHIFT plus TAB to get to the attachments list.

Re: Jeff Lukacsena: work around for PDF files
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
I’m late to this thread, so sorry if I am repeating things. ON my Windows 10 system, under Control Panel, Programs and Features, Adobe is listed as: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
Have you tried the Jaws OCR on PDF files that are not accessible?
Are your PDF documents opening in EDGE instead of Acrobat? That is an issue in the default programs settings.
Other than buying Kindle books and using Codex to convert them to another format, I know of no other reliable web site to get books. Other than books in audio format like Libro.fm or Audible….

Hi List, First, I tried to download Acrobat Adobe DC. It said the file on my computer was the most recent. Then I tried to uninstall Adobe Acrobate. I could not find it under programs in the control panel. Then, I remembered I had a disc for Kurzweil 100. I had to uninstall it a while back to conserve memory, then my Windows had to be reinstall due to not allowing Windows update to run correctly. I called the Microsoft Disability line a couple of weeks ago and they helped me to reinstall Windows 10. So then I ran the install of Kurzweil, they asked for my serial number, and it’s not on the DVD cover like they used to put that in Braille. So I had to go to my old Dell laptop wait for about 10 minutes to get it to boot, then open Kurzweil over there, and copy the serial number. Then I got Kurzwel up on my Lenovo laptop and typed in the serial number. Then I pulled the PDF into Kurzweil and then saved it as a text file. That took a total of 1.5 hours. Adobe is on Lenovo, but there is no Save as text, so I will just be using Kurzweil. Next step is to try and get my Lenovo laptop to recognize my scanner. I have a stack of books that I could not find on Bookshare. Does anyone recommend any other book websites that I can look up books and download them in BRF, Word, or text, EPub, no Kindle. Thanks, Jeff

Hi, Curtis and Gerald. I don't think much of the Save as Text option in the file menu of Adobe Acrobat DC. On some of my documents, once I convert the pdf to text, each word of the converted text file is on a new line. The pdf did not read this way, with each word on a separate line.
What I do instead is this,
1. Make sure Adobe Acrobat is set to read the entire document. 2. Open the pdf in Adobe Acrobat DC. 3. Once all the text is displayed, press CONTROL plus A to select the entire text. 4. Copy selected text to the clipboard with CONTROL plus C. 5. Close the document. 6. Open a blank text file in Notepad. 7. Paste the text residing on the clipboard into the blank document, and save it. 8. Voila! you have converted your pdf into a readable text file.
