Re: Accessible antivirus software
JM Casey
Hey Dave. Nah, Defender just sits there quietly until needed. It should be pretty low maintenance and doesn’t require any subscribing, or really doing anything at all, except maybe letting the odd piece of software it flags when you don’t want it to, pass through.
All that said, and more generally as it pertains to the topic, there are posts here every so often asking for antivirus recommendations, and I wish people wouldn’t just respond with “Windows Defender”. Don’t get me wrong, I use it myself, but I can think of a few reasons why someone might not want to, and if they have Windows nowadays, they already have defender, so theyr’e clearly looking for another alternative. Trust your audience, you know? For example it would be good to have a scanner that doesn’t rely on being connected to the internet. Defender still works without an internet connection, but it’s been demonstrated that it is much less effective when it can’t communicate with Microsoft. Anyway, that’s just one that I can think of. So when this question gets asked, which I’m sure will happen again, maybe someone will actuallyc hime in with good third-party products. It seems though that very few in the blind PC users community use anything but Defender.

All of this info is helpful as just a few days ago, MS was telling me my antivirus software was ended and suggested that I renew the subscription at the one time deal of $19.95. I had forgotten about defender. Since installing it, no prompts to get in on the deal. Because the audio crashed and no drivers from HP for windows 7, this laptop had to have 10 re-installed on it. With that I suppose came a 1 year free subscription. Who knows. Anyway, thanks to Brian for this info

Hi again, Marianne. Another way to reach the thesaurus is,
1. While in a document, and while your cursor is on the word for which you want a synonym or antonym, press the Applications key, or press SHIFT plus F10. 2. Arrow down to Synonym, and press ENTER. 3. A list of synonyms will appear, through which you can arrow and view them. 4. When you find the appropriate synonym, just press ENTER, and the synonym will be inserted into the document, replacing the word which was looked up.

Use tab if you are just trying to indent for the paragraph. I've noticed that if you get word into a rhythm, whey you hit enter, the cursor will go to your indented spot on the next line. Justin

Hello, I’m using the most recent versions of windows10, Outlook 2016 and Jaws 2021. After everything looked to be fixed with the various emails, now I get a message when shutting down saying applications are running. One is Outlook and the other is Jaws. Jaws is okay to leave running. I looked at the task manager and Outlook is running in the back ground. I stop the running by pressing the delete key. I then can shut down. If I go into Outlook again, exit Outlook and then shut down I get the message about it still running. I go back to task manager and it is in the background. I stop it. I then go to the desktop where is the Outlook shortcut and press enter on it. Nothing happens. What would cause Outlook to remain running even though I got out of it by pressing alt f4? Why would it not let me back into Outlook even though I stopped it from running in task manager? Thanks, Kevin
