I don't think that where the computer came from makes a lot of difference. It was an older donated computer when you received it, so by now it is probably quite elderly. We have an organization near where I live that accepts computers and re-homes them with people who have computer needs. Again, the computers that they deal with are older.
And from what I've seen, as a JAWS user, there was nothing apparent in WIN11 that made me particularly in a hurry to make the jump.

Health Check that Microsoft has released is supposed to be quite
accurate as far as detecting whether the hardware on which it is being
run can be updated to Windows 11.

It sounds like the results of a run of that tool already has
specifically detected that Mr.
Cutolo's machine does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for
TPM, even if it met every other requirement. And all it takes is one
of the required bits to be missing to put the kibosh on upgrading to
Windows 11.

Hi,
One thing I and other Windows Insiders (and anyone running Windows 10) can assure you: if you have Windows 10 on your system, it will be supported until 2025. One of my computers cannot upgrade to Windows 11 due to processor and TPM requirements not being met, but it is powerful enough to last another four years or so (got Windows 11 installed virtually though, although you will now need virtualization programs that can support physical or virtual TPM).

Hi,

I5 is a brand/class. The first Core I3/I5/I7 processors were made in 2008, and Intel added Core I9 to the line-up recently. These four classes target different market segment:

  • Core I3: entry consumer
  • Core I5: mainstream consumer and business
  • Core I7: high-end consumer and business
  • Core I9: enthusiasts

A typical Intel Core processor is labeled as:

Intel Core I{class}-{generation}{range}{name}{suffix}

For example, a Core I-5-10400 processor is a tenth generation Core I5 processor for desktops. The label gets a bit complicated with recent mobile processors such as:

Intel Core I{class}-{generation}{name}G{power}

For example, Core I5-1145G7 is an 11th generation processor designed for a typical laptop computer. Intel knows that this creates confusion, so the processor prefixes its full name with the generation it is part of (for example: 11th Gen Intel Core).

There will be a general advisory on Windows 11 support (especially from screen reader user’s point of view) to be published on a forum dedicated to discussing a combination of Windows and various screen readers out there.

So, when would a computer with I 5 have been made?  I probably got the specs wrong however, a laptop on Amazon has a I 5 processor.  That almost sounds like it was made over 10 years ago.  How is that possible. As in how could they sell such an old computer.

You always get what you pay for. From what I know of Computers for the Blind they usually sell machines which are donated to them and which they refurbish, but this will mean they are probably most likely older and nothing that is more than 4 or at most 5 years old will run Windows 11 because for the most part you need an 8th Generation Intel processor (a very few 7th Gen Intel CPU's have been allowed) or an AMD Ryzen 2000 series processor.

Intel released its 8th Generation processors in August 2017 so at the earliest computers bought in late summer/early fall 2017 would have had such a CPU.

AMD released its Ryzen 2000 series CPU's in April of 2018 so unless you bought an AMD computer after that it is unlikely it will support Windows 11.

 

My Asus Zenbook which I bought in November 2016 when 7th Generation Intel processorswere already available still had a 6th Generation CPU and even though it has a TPM 2.0 chip, uses UEFI for the BIOS and SecureBoot is enabled it still won't run Windows 11 because the processor itself does not meet the requirements.

Albert, if it is any consolation, I asked the MS help desk to run a diagnostic on a computer that my sister bought from Amazon a few months ago and has set to set it up.  Finally I just asked her if you are not going to set it up, just give it to me.  Well, along with other things that needed tweaking including putting on the latest version of JAWS, I thought as long as the tech is peeking in my computer, she might as well look to see if it can run windows 11.  Apparently, the processor from what I could determine from her thick accent, is not fast enough.  She re-assured me that 10 would be operational till 025.  Also she suggested I contact HP to see if there is anything they can do to fix the problem.  Call me naive, but, I’d think computers would not be sold if the processor will be shortly to slow.  Mind you, I’m buying a laptop from Amazon with just DDR 3 RAM, which I was told is pretty much obsolete now.

I worked with Microsoft Accessibility yesterday and they couldn’t figure it out. She had me use be my eyes. First she had me press f2 many times while the laptop was booting up. That didn’t work we then did f10 many times and that didn’t work. We then used the function key with f2 and then f10. That didn’t work. I noticed that it had opened over 20 Excel windows. We then got into BIOS going through windows settings. She had me enable the function key. That didn’t do anything. Okay now what?Prior to that I couldn’t get Outlook to work. I had created a backup of Outlook on my old laptop by doing a export. Then I used import on the new laptop to bring it in. All but one email address stayed the same. The main one is now called Outlook data file and not the email address. Thanks Microsoft Accessibility! Now what?

On most machines, media keys have absolutely nothing to do with Windows, and everything to do with UEFI/BIOS version.

Has your machine recently undergone a BIOS update?  Is your current BIOS version way out of date?  That's what I'd be checking first.

Earlier this afternoon, I got in touch with the people from Microsoft’s disability answer desk  and asked them to see if this computer would be able too install windows 11.  Unfortunately, after they ran the windows help thing,  it said that the chip that is in this computer which is a dell 46 hundred, with a one point two   chip wouldn’t  allow windows 11, too be installed.  He said that I would need a chip that has a two point zero chip, or perhaps, that kind of processor.

I apologize, I should have said Control + Shift + Tab is what brings you to the folder list when  you are in a mail box. It used to be that Shift + Tab did, but now you have to add the Control key to that shortcut.

As for F6, it still works, but if you are in a mailbox and you want to go straight to your folders list you have to press Shift + F6, if you press only F6, you would have to press it 4 times to get there, the fifth time you would be back in your mailbox, but Shift + F6 will get you there right away.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the folder list you get to with Control + Shift + Tab or Shift + F6 no longer contains Calendar, Contacts and Notes. But if you use Control + Y these are still there.

If you want to get to them in another way you have to press Shift + F6 twice or F6 three times, this will put you on the "Mail button", you can now arrow right to Calendar, People (which is Contacts) or Tasks. The last item here is something called the "Navigation menu" and if you activate this you can find Notes or you can find "Navigation Options", here you can reorder these items the way you want and you can put Notes further up in the list so it will show up instead of, for example, Tasks.

To do this when you have tabbed into the list, find Notes and then tab to where it says "Move Up" and activate it until Notes is where you want it in that list, similarly you could go to Tasks and move it down.

Hello.  I’m using the most recent versions of Windows 10, Outlook 2016 and JAWS 2021.  I’m setting up a new Asus laptop, and pulling in the data from the old Acer laptop for Outlook seemed to work, but I need to list the folders, which I used to do on the old laptop with Shift-F6.  Now that key combo causes Windows notifications to come up.  The F6 key by itself on my new laptop turns the touchpad on and off.

move down to mail
tab and find this option call
When replying to a message that's not in the inbox, save the reply in the same folder
 did you check that option, if yes, uncheck or untick will resolve your problem.

tab to ok and it should be gone for good.

A friend is running Win10 latest, Outlook 2019 with Jaws2021 latest.  Whenever he sends an email to someone, and they reply, the reply emails go to a folder called,

Task This Computer Only,

whereas, all replies use to go to the In Box.

Does anyone have any ideas of what’s going on here and how to make all replies to his messages go to the In Box like there suppose to?

You always get what you pay for. From what I know of Computers for the Blind they usually sell machines which are donated to them and which they refurbish, but this will mean they are probably most likely older and nothing that is more than 4 or at most 5 years old will run Windows 11 because for the most part you need an 8th Generation Intel processor (a very few 7th Gen Intel CPU's have been allowed) or an AMD Ryzen 2000 series processor.

Intel released its 8th Generation processors in August 2017 so at the earliest computers bought in late summer/early fall 2017 would have had such a CPU.

AMD released its Ryzen 2000 series CPU's in April of 2018 so unless you bought an AMD computer after that it is unlikely it will support Windows 11.

 

My Asus Zenbook which I bought in November 2016 when 7th Generation Intel processorswere already available still had a 6th Generation CPU and even though it has a TPM 2.0 chip, uses UEFI for the BIOS and SecureBoot is enabled it still won't run Windows 11 because the processor itself does not meet the requirements.

Albert, if it is any consolation, I asked the MS help desk to run a diagnostic on a computer that my sister bought from Amazon a few months ago and has set to set it up.  Finally I just asked her if you are not going to set it up, just give it to me.  Well, along with other things that needed tweaking including putting on the latest version of JAWS, I thought as long as the tech is peeking in my computer, she might as well look to see if it can run windows 11.  Apparently, the processor from what I could determine from her thick accent, is not fast enough.  She re-assured me that 10 would be operational till 025.  Also she suggested I contact HP to see if there is anything they can do to fix the problem.  Call me naive, but, I’d think computers would not be sold if the processor will be shortly to slow.  Mind you, I’m buying a laptop from Amazon with just DDR 3 RAM, which I was told is pretty much obsolete now.

Not that this wouldn't be helpful, but the very latest Windows PC Health Check that Microsoft has released is supposed to be quite accurate as far as detecting whether the hardware on which it is being run can be updated to Windows 11.

It sounds like the results of a run of that tool already has specifically detected that Mr. Cutolo's machine does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for TPM, even if it met every other requirement.  And all it takes is one of the required bits to be missing to put the kibosh on upgrading to Windows 11.

As far as I can tell she simply wants to turn off forwarding so unchecking the box to forward is all that is required, the email address can stay in there.

Sounds like a scam, what you have to do is look at the underlying URL of the link you are asked to click on, but generally speaking unless you requested a password reset and expect an email with a link to follow never click on any links in emails like that. If you have already done so and changed yourpassword I would immediately log into Facebook and change your password again there and of course youwould have to do the same for any other websites where you used that password. There is a reason why it is strongly recommended that you use different passwords for different websites and nowadays really the only option in my opinion is to use a password manager because if you really are using good password security meaning difficult and for the most part random passwords there is no way anybody can remember all the passwords one needs.

That is a good point, are you sure they are really from Facebook? How do you get these messages? Are they emails, notifications or text messages? If you do change it I would certainly not follow the link in any of these requests if there is a link but log into Facebook and then select the option to change password from your account settings area.

If the messages come from Facebook I don't see what it has to do with Windows Defender. You might simply want to go ahead and change it and it will probably fix the issue. I have actually seen notifications in the iOS keychain app where for some less important logins where I have a comparatively simple password it says that this password has been identified to be part of some password leak and I should change it. Maybe the messages from Facebook are for a similar reason.

On most machines, media keys have absolutely nothing to do with Windows, and everything to do with UEFI/BIOS version.

Has your machine recently undergone a BIOS update?  Is your current BIOS version way out of date?  That's what I'd be checking first.
