Hi all!

My company is pondering moving all our security  operations documentation into a wiki solution.  Since I work in the group and am a Jaws user I want to ensure that the wiki solution chosen is accessible to me as a Jaws user.  That means for reading docs and creating docs and putting them into the wiki.

So thought the first place to check is to ask this group since there are a lot of folks on this list.

Thanks and have a good day.

Good morning,

I’m running windows 10, JAWS 2021, Gmail through Windows Mail, and Office 2019 (I think it’s home and student version).

Hello:

When you say unload and reload JAWS, are you talking about removing JAWS from your system and then re-installing the program. If this is indeed the case, you can remove JAWS and then re-install it. This has no effect upon any of the programs you use in Windows.

I myself am experiencing frequent crashes of Outlook which are forcing me to stop and then restart Outlook. I believe this is a problem with how JAWS and Outlook are working (or not working) together. Unfortunately, I’m not able to consistently reproduce the problem so that the folks at Freedom Scientific can reproduce the problem on their end.

Kind regards,

Good morning,

I want to remove this current version of JAWS and reinstall it. I think it is somehow corrupt—but I don’t know enough to know. I just figure if I install it again I might have the trouble fixed.

I spent over an hour on the phone with Microsoft yesterday, and another chunk of time with Tech support at Freedom Scientific (or whatever name they’re using now).

I think it always helps a lot to know more, as you said, is she wanting to "reinstall" Jaws or simply restart Jaws. Normal when you talk about "unloading" Jaws this means Jaws Key + F4, then start it again by pressing a hotkey if you set one up or by typing Windows Key + R and then "JawsXXXX" where XXXX is the version you have, e.g. Jaws2021 without space. You can also minimize to the desktop by pressing Windows Key + M and then type "J" and if you have a Jaws desktop shortcut and it's the only one which starts with J then doing that and pressing enter works.

If she indeed needs to repair or reinstall Jaws, then it certainly would be good to know which version of Jaws she has and is she wanting to reinstall the same version in which case a repair would be the way to go or does she want to upgrade to a newer version.

Anybody who is using Windows 10 Version 2004, 20H2 or 21H1 should really be running Jaws 2021 for best results and of course if you are using Outlook you should be on either version 2019, the full one-time purchase version or have a Microsoft 365 subscription and use Office as downloaded from there.

it can convert from one format to another. like from hotmail to gmail, outlook to thunderbird and vice versa and many more.
i personally got the paid version a few years back. i use it for work and my own usage at times to help people transfer emails, address book and so on.

I’ve never used one, but a quick web search found there are lots of free ones.

If you don’t hear from someone who has done this already, you may want to check some out.  I’d certainly run a virus scan on the .exe file before installing or reading lots of reviews ahead of time.

I have always had Outlook, so have had no need for this but it sounds like a very useful tool for folks in your situation.

Good luck,

Do any of you guys know what PST viewer is accessible to screenreaders like JAWS? I'd like to find a way to extract Contacts from an Outlook .pst folder without having Outlook on my computer. This way, I can add them to my Contacts folder within Windows. Anybody have any suggestions for me?

Hhere are the instructions for loading and unlading jaws safely.

1. From the desktop, pres the leter J to bring focus to the JAWS for Windows icon. If someone has set it up to have a shrtcut key such as ControlAlt J then pres that form any window.

To unload JAWS, you can do one of two things. You can press Insert F4 to unload JAWS or pres an Alt tab to move to the JAWS window and pres Alt F4. This will also turn of JAWS for you.

Use the insert f4 command or numpad0 f4 to unload jaws and then can turn it back on using the hot key if set up of alt ctrl j or the run command followed by the word jaws and the version number for example jaws2021 or can also be done from the windows key by typing jaws and pressing enter.

So hope that helps.

Yes, you can create groups in Outlook.  I can't remember whether those sync back to Gmail Contacts or not.

I believe that groups created in Gmail do sync to Outlook, but I could also be wrong about that.  I don't have Go Contact Sync Mod set up on this machine to check.

I have recommended both Go Contact Sync Mod and Fruux Basic (if you only have a couple of accounts, as it's paid beyond 2 accounts or two devices - also requires you to create an account with them) when the need arises to sync contact information between Gmail and the Outlook Address Book.

Hi!

I am using Windows 10 and JAWS 2020.  Various basic symbols are not being spoken presently, when in the past they were.  For example, below is the “section symbol”:

§

Instead of JAWS speaking “section” it says “character 167.”  This symbol was inserted above using the JAWSKey+4 command.  So, it is not some rare, strange symbol.  In the past, JAWS use to properly speak it.

What has changed?  Is it, perhaps, some setting in my speech scheme or some other setting?

Thanks,

Richard

moderated Re: Why are basic symbols not being spoken?

Richard,

Have you by any chance changed synths?   I ask because the section symbol can be inserted by typing 167 then hitting ALT+X immediately afterward in MS-Word.  Its unicode keystroke is ALT+0167.

It could be a character that one synth "recognizes" with a name and another doesn't.

1. Press Alt + F follow by I and tab until you get to Add Account, arrow down once to Account Settings, expand the sub menu with right arrow or enter, then press enter again on Account Settings.
2. Tab until you get to the list of the accounts you have set up, select the one you want to remove and press Shift + Tab until you get to "Remove", most likely it's 2 or 3 times or you can use the shortcut for Remove which in this case is Alt + M
3. I didn't want to delete any of my accounts so I can't remember if it will prompt you to confirm, but this is how you do it
