Hi, Cynthia. Maybe your Documents folder got changed from Details View to Tiles View. Before you do anything too radical, try this,

1. Open your Documents folder.

2. Press and hold CTRL + SHIFT.

3. While CTRL + SHIFT are held down, Press the number six on the numbers row, not the number key pad.

4. See if the up and down arrows read the files in Documents now. If they do, your documents were laid out horizontally, instead of vertically, and that's why they wouldn't read.

When I go into file explorer, it reads my frequently used folders and recent we used folders and documents fine. When I click on documents to go into my larger list of folders, it doesn’t read any of them all of a sudden.

Hi, Cynthia. First, have you tried rebooting the computer, or at least, quitting JAWS and restarting it? I have the latest JAWS version, and am not having this problem. If restarting JAWS doesn't work, try doing a JAWS repair by running the JAWS installer for the latest version of JAWS. I will post a link to that version below.

Has anyone encountered this issue? I am running what I think is the most recent version of JAWS 2021 and windows 10. This just happened all of a sudden.

Thanks for any insight you might have,

You run the install program, but instead of installing, the install program does a repair on the JAWS you already have. It will show a "repair" button, and it will act like it is installing, but it is actually repairing your JAWS.

Hy Cynthia.

Try going into other folders and see if you have the same problem. I was having weird problems with Windows a few weeks ago. The only thing that I did that was different that seemed to fix my problem was completely shut down my computer so it turned off. It was off for about an hour. When I started it, things seemed to work better.

Hope you get this working.

Greetings:

Have you tried doing the same thing with another browser—for example, Google Chrome? This will help me to understand whether this is an Edge problem or something else.

Thanks.

hi thanks for the suggestions reputation face protection is disabled already double checked it on my settings seems to be a little bit different I can't find a couple of things that you have. Know if it's because I'm running pro or if we just have a slightly different build of windows. and under settings browser and applications anything that can be turned off and there's turned off and window smart defender is not installed. I may have to reset windows.

Hi, Randy. In the Windows Settings App, under Update and security, in Windows Security, under App and Browser Control, do you have Reputation-based Protection turned off? Specifically, the following check boxes being unchecked may make it easier to download files. Also, there is a SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge setting, not only within Microsoft Edge, but also within the App and Browser Settings I am showing below. Having said that, you still may encounter the browser telling you that a file may be harmful, and asking you to "Keep" or "Discard" the file. Below are some of the settings you may want to look at,

Check apps and files
SmartScreen for Microsoft Edge
Potentially unwanted app blocking
SmartScreen for Microsoft Store apps

I have all of these settings turned off.

Hi, am I the only one getting mainstream Big name files blocked all the
time by Edge? I have smart screen turned off and every other setting I
can find that would block downloads or websites.

All evidence so far points to this being limited to you, among those who've discussed it.

It would really be worth calling Microsoft Windows & Office Accessibility Support on (800) 936-5900, and having them take a look at this.
