moderated Annoying Jaws word issue?

ann

Hi folks,

I'm running the latest Jaws, the latest Windows 10, with the latest version of MS Word 365. When I use the keystroke Alt+Windows+i to move the cursor between document inconsistencies, it reports a font change at the beginning of every line. But when I check my formatting info, there has been no change.

Does anyone know what might cause this? And better, how can I fix it?

Thanks,
~Ann

Can you supply the site URL?

Dashboard is a very generic term that means different things depending on the website or other context.

Hello, and route PC to Jaws. I even made sure jaws key and z was on. No matter what I couldn’t get the options under the item on the dashboard to show up. I went to the sites accessibility page and selected visually impaired. Couldn’t tell if it was selected. Went back to the page and everything is the same. Is there a way I can get Jaws to recognize the options below a item on the dashboard?

Cheers,

Kevin

I’m using the most recent versions of Jaws2021, Windows10 and Chrome. I’m on a site where I wanted to access a option. It is on the dashboard.  I was told by help on the site to move my cursor and hover the item. I do and there no options that show up. I’m guessing they are in a drop down box Jaws doesn’t recognize. I tried using the Jaws cursor, route Jaws to PC

With the accessible mode enabled I didn't have too much trouble reading articles. I use Jaws 2021 and Edge, I selected the Index, from there I was able to find sections/topics such as Business/Finance, CoronaVirus etc., after clicking on them I could then find individual articles and read them just fine.

FYI, and I don't know how much it may or may not help, in the Options dialog you can bring up on this page there is a checkbox for Enable Accessibility mode.  You can get to the Options button to bring it up in under 10 hits of Tab when the page is originally loaded.

You might want to give that a try and see if it results in any significant difference in accessibility.

Greetings:

Even if a keyboard does not show the Applications Key per se, there is usually a key combination, involving the FN key (if there is one) which can be used to invoke the actual Applications key function.

I did raise this issue with Microsoft about why the Applications Key brings up a different list from the list which appears when you press Shift+F10. I was told that this problem is planned to be eliminated in Windows 11 where, so it they say, both keyboard commands will produce the same list of choices. Here’s hoping this is an accurate statement of what is to come.

Correction! It turns out that the Application key *does* bring up the jump list. My keyboard doesn't have an Application Key, so I was using SHIFT + F10, which *doesn't* bring up the jump list: it turns out that the Application key and SHIFT + F10 are actually subtly different keystrokes.

So, to rephrase my question: how might I access the jump list when I don't have access to an Application key?

If I'm using the mouse, I can right-click on icons in the taskbar to bring up what Microsoft calls a "jump list" that shows (amongst other things) files that I've recently opened in a given application.

However, if I use the Application Key or SHIFT + F10 to simulate a right click I don't get the jump list; instead I get an old fashioned looking context menu.

How can I access the jump list for a given icon in the taskbar using the keyboard? I know I can use WINDOWS + ALT + n to access the jump list for the icon in the nth position, but what do I do if I've already moved to some icon using WINDOWS + T and the arrow keys?

Hi,
You can use the older method by choosing pop3 setting when you set up your accounts . Otherwise the setup goes to IMAp which allows the mail to remain on the server. If I need to save an e-mail I do a "save as: command and save the e-mail on my local disk. While downloading the mail was nice I find the IMap settings to be easier and give me more access if I need to use more than one device to retrieve mail and it keeps everything in sync.

Hello,
I'm sure this is probably the wrong place to ask, since this list is mainly for JAWS things.
When I used Outlook in the past, I had it set up to where the messages would download directly to my computer and I could save them or read them offline.
Ever since I needed to go to Microsoft Office 365, that isn't happening. I guess the messages stay on the server and are available to me whenever I use Outlook 365 online, but they don't download to my computer like before.
Is this new, and is there a way to go back to the old way?
Sorry for asking so much. I'm just trying to get used to the transition.

It is much easier nowadays to buy a ready to go external drive, I just bought a 10 Tb Western Digital Elements Desktop hard drive for $269.99 Canadian from Amazon Canada. That would be well below $200 US and it's compact, ready to go, just plug it into power and a USB port and you are done.

I personally don't hoard all sorts of stuff especially not Podcasts which I could probably find and listen to on demand any time I want. But to each their own and if you enjoy saving stuff or downloading all your Audible books then that is the right thing for  you, I have almost a thousand books in my Audible library and even though I don't download them to my PC, I can still go and find any book I want in the iOS app, redownload it and listen to it.
