moderated Help With OpenText and JAWS - SmartView and ClassicView and Brava

Mark Fisher

Hi Everyone - Happy Hump Day

Does anyone have experience in using JAWS with OpenText document management system? Whilst the Enterprise Connect component is reasonably accessible, the way we've done some aspects of SmarView means I can't get to certain float over menus to activate a number of options which are not available in the Enteprise Connect portion. I also find these issues in the Classic View portion.

Also, wen reading documents with Brava within the OpenText framework, spaces between words are spoken as "Graphic" by JAWS.

I'm running the latest version of JAWS

I'd love to here from anyone else about any tips and tricks they have used including whether they had to get custom scripts written. I am also reaching out to OpenText.

I can't help but wonder if Money Talks has been updated at all. Requirements include Windows 98, a CD ROM, and IE 5.5. It reminded me of going back to college in 2009. I had a professor give me an assignment on a 3.5 floppy written in Word Perfect. It took me longer to dig out a floppy drive than it did to complete the assignment.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I wouldn't mind having something with some invoicing capabilities.

Phillip,

I don’t know how many accounting functions you require for your small business but if it is primarily checkbook related, you might try Money Talks from APH. It doesn’t have receivables, payables, or inventory capability but its checkbook capability is outstanding and is very accessible with JAWS and transferring its detail to Excel is very easy. You can read about it here:

I have a small business and do my bookkeeping in Excel. I would like to start using some accounting software instead, but I have heard that QuickBooks, which I would have tried first, has some accessibility issues. Is this true, and, if so, what have people on the list found works well with JAWS?

yeah Windows update error codes are in a Toria's Lee vague. Before you do anything drastic just try running the update assistant I suggested by another user. If that doesn't work you can also run scan disk or DISM. I can give you the documentation for running Dizm if you need it.

I had one system that the update kept failing, I ended up using the
update assistant from https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=799445
and it then worked fine (although the total update did take a couple
hours to install between the download and actual installation).

One should always try to use the uninstall option available from either the Windows start menu, or Control Panel, Programs and Features as the starting point.

If the dedicated uninstaller fails, which is rare, what comes next depends on what, exactly, it is that got stuck.

You never use a force uninstaller such as Revo (there are others) unless the dedicated uninstaller, followed by a specific program clean-up uninstaller, fails.

Greetings:

The overwhelming majority of programs installed on a Windows computer can be removed using the standard Windows uninstaller, which is reasonably accessible. The problem I have found is that once you invoke the removal process, the application being removed then takes over, and the removal can be terrific or extremely inaccessible depending on the specific application. Most applications are removable without a problem. But there are rare instances where the application's removal screen needs JAWS Convenient OCR to be used to figure out what is going on. Shame on the appliation developers🙂.

Cordially,

Curtis Chong
