A friend of mine contacted me tonight wanting to know if there are certain
color and display settings that need to be set up when installing JFW on to
a Windows 7 system. Since I'm still using XP I'm familiar with the optimal
display settings for using JFW and XP, but I don't have a clue what needs to
be tweaked for Windows 7 if anything. I've gone through the JFW help
topics, but I haven't been able to find anything there. So I would greatly
appreciate it if someone could either email me the settings that need to be
changed, or a link to an article or articles that explain the best settings
for JFW and Windows 7. Thanks for your time and help.

Blessings,

Maybe this will help:
Use the key strokes, (CTRL+INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH) for Drag and Drop .
This is used to drag items from one location and drop them in another. Position the JAWS Cursor on the item you wish to move and press CTRL+INSERT+NUM
PAD SLASH. You can leave the JAWS Cursor active, or you can switch to the PC Cursor. JAWS will keep speaking as you navigate. Once you have positioned
the JAWS or PC Cursor in the location to which you would like to move the item, press CTRL+INSERT+NUM PAD SLASH again, and the item will be moved to the position of the active cursor.

Remember, you can copy and paste items not contiguous (not next to each
other) in two ways:

1. If in a list such as Windows Explorer, just highlight the first item
with spacebar. Then hold down the control key. As you arrow down, keep
the control key pressed. Choose other items to copy (or move) by
additional presses of the space bar -- all the time keeping the control
key pressed.
Then, you can copy, control C, or cut (control X) the noncontiguous
items you selected above.

2. This second approach will work in other places, as in different
sentences or paragraphs in a Word document. Highlight what you want to
copy. Then press control plus C.
After that, sequentially highlight other stuff you want to copy in
whatever means is convenient. Then, instead of pressing control plus C,
press Windows plus C. That will "append" to the clipboard.
I think you can "cut" with Windows plus X, the same way you can copy
with Windows plus C, but it has been too long since I tried that.

Dear Mike:

Question. When using the Insert key, should I use the JAWS insert key on the lowermost row of the num pad, or the computer's Insert key? Often when I use either Insert key, what will happen will be that I will hit all three keys at once, and JAWS will not speak at all. I see that you cannot hit all three keys individually. They have to be held down all at once. Once the left mouse button is locked, when I try to arrow up, sometimes JAWS will only speak the word "Selected." At other times, no matter whether I arrow up and down the name of the track I am trying to move is just repeated over and over.

Once the software is installed on your machine you simply launch the

good to go.

Hello List Friends,

My company is being directed by the government entity for which we
have a long term contract to use VPN with tokens. With my last employer, we
used a VPN SoftId solution. SoftId uses VPN without a token by displaying a
graphical set of numbers on the computer screen. A coworker then wrote a
macro/script to cut and paste the graphic into the Pass code. Then the
verification was performed with no problems.
My company in their infinite wisdom will not even investigate this solution.
Before I raise this to a legal level, can any of you provide any
information? I cannot imagine the government requiring a solution that is
not able to be 508 Compliant.
If you have any experience with using VPN, in an environment that uses
tokens, will you please contact me off list at BarbaraAnne1@Mac.com?
Always,
Barbara Anne

Hello there;

Back in the windows 98 and windows malenium,
I believe FS recommended 800 by 600
This was with the earlier versions of jaws,
However, with XP and 7, this is really not an issue.

However, using windows7, I have 1024 by 768 and things seem to work just

It was an early edition of our old IS system--the interface to Medicaid
eligibility and related information. I think the preferred setting was
the proverbial 1024/768. It would be nice (and for all I know, it may
be this way) if 7 or some future OS would allow you to adjust this on an
app by app basis, just as the last two Microsoft releases have allowed
setting access level (user, power user, administrator) on an app by app
basis. Of course, this might not be a critical issue for mainstream
users, but might be included in accessibility settings. Certainly, one
would not want to hobble the resolution just to suit one finicky app.

No, that's a rule of thumb. LCD monitor default to their highest
resolution, and it usually works great. It would be nice if it could be
altered on an app-by-app basis. We once used a program like that here,
but alteration on the OS level would be really handy.

Ted, are you referring specifically to Windows 7? Dorothy apparently
knows
what you say here with regard to XP. I'm still using XP and can't answer
her
question myself.

If you're using LCD, these units default to their maximum resolution.
Most today are high, or at least advanced, definition, with many maxing
out in the neighborhood of 1080X1920. Manufacturers usually recommend
leaving them alone, although changes can be easily implemented through
Control Panel.

Dear list can you explain if when using Jaws 12 or 11 and windows 7 and
ms
outlook what importance is the resolution, I know it matters in xp, but
I
get the impression it is not of great importance in windows 7 . The
resolution of the screen is not the same is it? I think some have a
fixed
resolution, thanks Dorothy
