Hi Dave,
When I use Google as my search engine or
homepage with Waterfox, I can't stop the predictive search or search suggestions
or what ever it's called that repeats everything I type into the search
field. But, if I use any other search engine this doesn't happen. I
have the predictive search turned off and I have all the spellcheck features
turned off as well as any other related settings. As soon as I switch
search engines or my home page from Google this all stops.
Stay safe & take care. Mike. Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say: "Close Enough!"

It is not likely to be appropriate to your situation unless you so happen to be using checks in precisely the same format. Fields would have to be moved around in the template (which also used a table in it, which I probably wouldn't do now) in order for the various usual fields to print where they need to print for your own check blanks. But it is a starting point. When I originally created it I had the person I created it for do a scan of her check blank and email that to me. There is a lot of trial and error in getting the correct placement not only for the check blank, but for the specific printer being used. Anyone who's ever printed out sheets of mailing labels using one of the Avery standard formats will understand only too well the kind of tweaking I'm referring to. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is the function of creative men to perceive the relations between thoughts, or things, or forms of expression that may seem utterly different, and to be able to combine them into some new forms--the power to connect the seemingly unconnected. ~ William Plomer

Now: List Rules - 08/01/2021
#cal-notice
main@jfw.groups.io Calendar <noreply@...>
List Rules When: Description: http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies
**List Policies** 1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated. 2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes. 3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject. 4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind. 5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration. 6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently. As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io James,

Re: An Older ElBraille: How Best To Read BRFs?
Life in Six Dots
Hi Tyler,
It’s not an ElBraille issue. It’s a Windows issue. To read BRF files on Windows simply change the file extension form .brf to .txt and you will then be able to open it. You should then be able to read it on your braille display / ElBraille.

Hi, Out of curiosity, do you have the elbraille 14? I believe that's what I have myself (Micro USB for charging with an attached elbraille with LTE connectivity) however I am only now realizing the ability to read and get back into braille. I'm very curious if you're able to find a method in which this works. Thanks for any help out there

Hi Richard,
Yes. On macOS I can have two or more displays connected at the same time. One is the primary display. The others just receive output in braille. It’s very good for teaching purposes.
I wondered if JAWS could do the same. I have done what you’ve mentioned in the past few days and have experienced the same thing. I cannot seem to find a way to make two braille displays connect at the same time, like I can on macOS. I would assume from the comments I am receiving this isn’t possible.

Hi Johathan,VoiceOver on macOS lets you use multiple braille displays. Yes the primary display controls the screen reader but the others will output the braille, which is incredibly useful for teaching. I wondered if the same can be done with JAWS?

My personal experience has been with Brother and Epson printers. Both have desktop apps that are accessible. Interfaces on unit are not. Also, my current Brother unit and Windows 10 communicate well even without using the app. Brother has advantage of using very little ink if you only print couple of times per week however Epson’s advantage is speed. Jonathan, when you say to "rebind the keystroke", how is this done? I found the script that is executed with the control+shift+t keystroke which is named NotifyCurrentSpeaker, but I don't want to mess it up by trying to do something that I haven't done before.

I suggest you go into the keyboard manager and see if you can find the script listed there that you are trying to execute, and then rebind the keystroke if you do. To open the keyboard manager, press insert-F2 and find the keyboard manager listed there. There is a list of applications, make sure you are in the Zoom application, and then review the lists of scripts available for assigning keys to. There is a way to filter out the default scripts to limit the list. I believe the keyboard manager is driven by the ".jsd" files so if there is an error in the JAWS builtin documentation then it is possible to still get this error, but would be a big priority and fairly simple for Freedom Scientific to correct. Otherwise, you could purchase or perhaps sample Brian Hartgen excellent and often updated scripts. I have heard very good things about these scripts, but have not tried them since I primarily use Zoom on Apple products. Brian's web site is: http://www.hartgen.org/zoompro Another thing you can check is to see if you have a zoom.jkm file or something closely similar to that in your JAWS private settings files. TO To get to this, from the start menu search for Utilities JAWS , this will bring up a directory listing of several shortcuts. Select the Explore My Settings shortcut and then look for files that start with Zoom. These are customizations to zoom that were added to you that are not part of the JAWS installation and would override anything in the JAWS directories that gets checked when you repair JAWS. An Older ElBraille: How Best To Read BRFs?
Kane Brolin
Hello.
In the summer of 2019, I purchased (for a deep discount) an ElBraille 4th Generation. This model had just been released into the marketplace, at least in some parts of the world, and I purchased it from a friend in essentially brand-new condition. I do not regret my purchase, but I have found that some hiccups exist in the 4G model. Most significantly, there is no menu button between Dot 1 and Dot 4 of the Braille keyboard on my version of the Focus display which is attached to the 4G ElBraille I bought. I have read that the Focus Scratchpad is a great way to read and edit BRF during times when the Focus display itself has been untethered from the ElBraille, at least from a software perspective. But Scratchpad seems unavailable to me, since this Menu button is said to be required for one to get into Scratchpad and I don't have that button. It seems my Focus does have a micro-SD slot that may be used for storing and accessing files. But I cannot find any way to get into the Scratchpad function, if there even is one. In the event my unit does not have Scratchpad capability, is there a software work-around? I have no problem reading DAISY books with the ElBraille using FS Reader. But FS Reader does not support BRF, as far as I know. So is my best bet going to be the purchase and installation of OpenBook or Kurzweil 1000? Alternatively--and I know this would cost a lot of money--could I purchase a Focus 5 40-cell display and get FS to retrofit this updated Braille display to my ElBraille 4G? I agree with the proposition that it is great to have a full, Windows 10 computer in a blindness notetaker chassis. But at this point, at least for me, this works out in theory better than in practice. This lack of native BRF support on the ElBraille is disturbing indeed, and it's amazing that not more users openly express frustration about this as I do. Thanks for any help you may provide. Kind regards, Kane Brolin (574)386-8868 (mobile)
