It sounds like this is a Windows issue since people using the app or the emails on iPhones are able to access it.

Hopefully Starbucks is aware enough of all the ADA compliance issues with web sites that have been in the news in the last year that they will respond in a timely manner.

Good luck,

Subject: Starbucks issue- promotions email

Hi.

I know that this is a Jaws problem solving website.

Don’t worry, I am not complaining about the quality, long car lines or prices at my local Starbucks!

I am a Gold card account member. It is a debit card.

You collect points for purchases. Starbucks is a smart marketeer and sends focused email promotions based on your buying habits.

about a month or two ago, the ‘click here to join promo’ link disappeared from their promotion emails.

My sighted wife verified that it was there.

Well, today I lost my patience and called Freedom Scientific Jaws Support to help to get my promotion..

Long story short… no screen reader can see the ‘join me’ link, I was told.

If you are a Starbucks account user, have you noticed this behavior?

Might you have found another way of joining the promotion?

The Jaws Support person, and his background buddy, tried other screen readers and other possible solutions without success.

They told me the issue was that there was an image inside of a picture/image that caused the problem.

Thus, the problem, in my mind, is with Starbucks.

I called them, spoke to a generic Customer Service rep, and told him what to send to their technical staff.

Given their track record, I am not optimistic about receiving a reply.

Any thoughts/comments?

Thanks.

I usually find these offers in the “inbox” of the Starbucks app on my iPhone. I couldn’t verify the dragon fruit special was a special offer, it just seemed to have an order here button. But then, I haven’t ordered Starbucks for 18 months.

Hi friends,

I Have a web app with edit boxes.

Just recently, when I move to an edit box it has started to say edit contains text on a certain edit box and it seems to repeat what is in the edit box twice.

It is the latest JAWS but I have also tried it with JAWS 2020 and on two machines.

Using the Edge Chrom browser, seems like it is something odd in the app but does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, Steve. None of the versions require purchase. The light version just doesn't require as much space on disk or in memory. You can download and install the full 64-bit or 32-bit versions without purchase. They are all free.

Sorry I don’t understand.

I thought it said that the light or free version doesn’t have screen reader functionality, but the paid for version does.

Because a blind person can’t actually see the screen, I would suggest that “making” them pay for accessibility just to use the program is a form of discrimination.

I’ll get off my high horse now.

No, it's not.  You just use the full version.

If you strip out the underpinnings needed for the screen reader to make an ultra-light-weight version of something, that can hardly be called discrimination against the blind.  The accessible version, which is actually the one most used, is fully accessible.

Steve,

The site for Search Everything, https://voidtools.com, has been offered many times.  There is no such thing as a paid version.  Regardless of which edition or bit-depth you wish to download, it is freeware.

The lite version is nothing but the full version stripped of a number of things that many likely never use, and where absolute "lightness of being" is paramount.  Even the full version is incredibly resource light.

Thus, trying to claim this is discrimination, of any sort, is ludicrous.  If you need screen reader support, the full version has it at no cost.  If you don't need screen reader support, and don't want a couple of the features that the full version has, there is a lite version.

From the FAQ page, which has a dedicated answer to "what's lite?"  Note well the last sentence.

What is the Lite version of "Everything"?

The Lite version of Everything is the same as the normal multilingual version of Everything, except it has some features removed:

The Command line interface / ES will not work with the Lite version.

The SDK will not work with the Lite version.

Windows accessibility features and screen readers will not work with the Lite version.

I don't know the difference between 64-bit and 64-bit light, because I just installed the full version.

Bill or anyone else, regarding the portable versions of Search
Everything, do you know what is the difference between the 64 bit and
the 64 bit lite?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for mentioning this utility. I downloaded it with no problem.
It’s easy to install. And that’s saying a lot for me. (LOL)

Thanks again.

Hi, Shirley. I understand your frustration with regard to some Windows
applications saving files in strange places, and not being able to
locate them. This is because, when one tabs to the save file option, the
location of the file is not given. Here's what I did to stop all that
nonsense. I installed a Windows file utility called Search Everything.
This utility will, when started, search for files with a given name or
partial name, and will also list its location. I will give the link for
the website where you can download Search Everything. Since I have a
64-bit system, I download the 64-bit version of the program.

I wrote something in WORD PAD, and when I went to open it again it was
not there. I wrote the information in a new WORD PAD file and when I
tried to save it, I received the message that I already had that file.
So, how do I find it? It’s not in “file explorer.” This has all happened
since the latest update of Microsoft.

Thanks for any help.

Cheerfully,

Shirley Tracy

moderated Search Everything from voidtools.com - Lite version is NOT accessible

From the FAQ page, which has a dedicated answer to "what's lite?"  Note well the last sentence.

What is the Lite version of "Everything"?

The Lite version of Everything is the same as the normal multilingual version of Everything, except it has some features removed:

The Command line interface / ES will not work with the Lite version.

The SDK will not work with the Lite version.

Windows accessibility features and screen readers will not work with the Lite version.

Subject: Edit Boxes On A WEB App
