I knew that when Microsoft introduced this particular behavior change, and made it default, it was going to be a major stumbling block for screen reader users. There was much discussion about it on the Windows Access with Screen Readers group (formerly Win10 for Screen Reader Users) back when it first hit, and I cannot recall whether that was version 1909 or 2004. This is one of the problems for those who end up on the "late end" of any feature update roll out cycle. Most of the bumps get discussed in the early weeks and first several months and then the discussions fade. By the time the late cohorts are updated much can be forgotten. This is one reason I implore people to file specific messages about changes that they are virtually certain will affect them, eventually, even if they don't at the moment. It makes it much quicker and easier to check your own mini-archive. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not. ~ André Gide

Thanks to whomever it was that mentioned the settings for alt-tab in Windows 10! Mine was set to show the last 5 windows opened in Edge. I’m not sure who the heck thought that was a good idea, but I set it to Open Windows Only, and set it to show only the windows in the desktop I’m using. It is operating much more smoothly now. I can have multiple windows open and alt-tab to whichever one I want and nothing weird so far is happening; other than it working 😊.

Hi All,
This is regarding the latest windows 10 update, 21h1.
Have you noticed that your alt+tabbing has become weird? I have noticed now that when I alt tab around, I often land on something that is fully quiet and Jaws doesn’t read anything. I either have to keep hitting alt+tab, or something else like windows key to get out of it. Also, the title bars of my windows aren’t reading correctly everytime.
If anyone has any tips on this new windows 10 experience with alt+tab please let me know
Best,

Hello Kevin,

WCAG is technology agnostic so the guidelines should still work for application accessibilty. But for more specific questions you should look at either the web-aim or bats mailing list. Aim is run by u. of Utah and talks about general accessibility issues and the blind bats list is a Google Groups list that discusses techniques that blind people use while testing accessibility Jonathan .

Thanks for the posts on this subject. I got a new laptop last week. After everything was updated I started having these same issues. I thought there was something on the new laptop I needed to change, or my old brain was going nuts. I haven’t any clue as to what has caused the problem, but at least I now know I’m not alone or going nuts. And I’ve still got my old laptop for when things get too crazy.

I had this same issue today, I’m also having issues with my braille display but I won’t get into that since that would be off-topic. I’m just glad I have 2 other screen readers that I can turn on when I have issues with Jaws. Hopefully someone has a solution, or better yet this will be fixed in the next Jaws update whenever that gets released.

Just starting with Teams. I’m doing fairly well with the free scripts and have listened to the Hartgen audio description.
One thing I have run up against, and did not hear on the audio, is settings in Teams. Sharing my computer audio is easy but sharing my screen is a graphic that I can’t find and don’t always have sighted help available.
I assume there are probably other hidden controls as well. Does Hartgen’s scripts provide access to these controls?
Thanks

Hi:
I’ve been using ms Teams for almost 2 years now. Initially just used the scripts included with Jaws, then tried out the free scripts from Doug Lee, and a month ago purchased the Teams course as well as the scripts from Brian Hartgen.
The first thing I would like to point out about Brian’s scripts is that he has put a lot of emphasis on being efficient. There are lots of commands in his scripts that make a user extremely efficient when working with Teams.
e.g.
Although I’ve been using ms teams for almost 2 years, I’ve experienced some difficulties in areas like working with team feeds as compared to the chats So I’ve found his ms teams course extremely helpful.
Note: I’ve attended webinars from both Microsoft Accessibility desk, and Vispero. These webinars were good to get you going, but to really use the full capability of ms teams Brian’s course is great.
So if you are concerned with being as efficient when working with ms Teams as your sighted colleagues then Brian’s course and scripts are worth the cost. As well Brian fully supports his work, he has an email group for questions and one can always ask for new features to be included in the scripts and if they make sense he adds them.
Anyways, I’m very happy with both the course and the scripts.
If you have any other specific questions please feel free to write me at any time.
Have a nice day.
