They do have sales agents there, which is the same thing as having a store.

Mario,

The application of sales tax is a function of where you reside and your state’s laws regarding whether sales tax applies to computer software and its various forms. If your state applies sales tax to software and Freedom Scientific has a physical presence in your state, Freedom Scientific is obligated to collect sales tax and remit it to the state.
The sales tax should be calculated on the discounted price of the software or SMA.

Like other tax laws, application of sales tax is an ever changing situation. So, just because it did not apply in the past, doesn’t mean it won’t in the future.

Hi all. Using the newest Jaws 2021, if I go into research and type in a simple word such as insect, and to to the Wickopedia link, it will not bring up any results at all.

This happens for any words put into it.

Does anybody else have this problem or is it just me?

Does anyone have a fix for this if they have had the issue?

Thanks

You can enter your serial number there. Also, you can call Customer Service during business hours and they will help you find the best options.

Vispero is running a 20% off sale on JAWS, ZoomText and Fusion along with some hardware products. The discount is applied at checkout if you’re purchasing through the e-store. Call customer service if you are trying to purchase something that isn’t available through the e-store and they will apply the discount.

Also, some states have passed laws to collect on-line sales, Nebraska did that, so now all my Amazon.com sales and other businesses that are big enough to be noted by the IRS are charging tax to the states that are collecting them.
You might check to see if your state passed a law to collect taxes for on-line sales.

Well all windows come with a return to factory state, which is what they should be doing.
The product key is on all computers too, so even if they just used a stock windows disk, they could reinstall the version of windows that was on it.
I would not want a computer that just had the previous user account removed.

The overwhelming majority of blind computer users are not supertechies, and buying a computer with JAWS and other software already installed is a big plus.  Not everyone can set up a new Windows 10 computer from scratch without tech savvy sighted help, which is well beyond the technical skill of the average blind computer user. My CFB HP desktop has been working flawlessly for two years and I haven't had any technical problems with it. So what if it isn't the latest and greatest?  It does everything I need it to do.  The free one-year license for JAWS by itself is worth the price of the computer.

While I have never owned a computer from Computers for the Blind, a friend of mine who I served as tech support for purchased a number of laptops over the years.

They are not "the latest and greatest" and, at least up until very recently (if even now), they routinely came with conventional HDDs not SSDs.  But they were solid machines, many business class laptops off of long term lease that were "too old" to sell as refurbished to the broad general market, but with more than enough get up and go to handle routine web browsing, emailing, and office-suite type programs.

Some did not, however, come with full-sized "desktop layout" keyboards, but I think that's likely different now, too, as it's a small minority of laptops that don't have a number pad on them.

Make sure that the features you want are something you request specifically, e.g., having a number pad (or not having a number pad, as the case may be).

You are purchasing a brand new Dell.  The Outlet is made up of machines that were ordered and returned without being turned on, ordered and returned within 15 days and ordered and cancelled (never shipped).  My machine works as well as if I bought it from dell.com.  All outlet machines are rebuilt and certified.  If you aren’t happy you just ship it back.  The cost varies based on type of machine and configuration.  Obviously a basic laptop running Win 10 Home with 2 GB of RAM and a 250 GB HD is going to be much less expensive than a 32 core PowerEdge server with 128 GB of RAM and 8 TB of SSD with a SCSI controller.
Also if it only comes with a one year warranty you can always extend the warranty at the end of the first year.  I have been buying Dell laptops since the late 1990’s and I have only purchased through the outlet, and have never had an issue.
Like I said in the first email you may need to check inventory for several days before you find exactly what you want.  As long as your flexible in your configuration the outlet is a great way to save some money.

But having a computer you can use "out of the box" without any assistance (providing you're not someone who's not yet capable of using a screen reader) is just a huge plus in all ways.  But having one year to play with JAWS and being able to add NVDA and having Narrator makes "compare and contrast" to decide what you really like much easier, too.  (And that isn't to say that switching between screen readers is easy.  But if you want to get a real sense of using each of the current majors it's an easy and cheap way to do so.)

BTW, the laptop I purchased 1 year ago has 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD, 6 cores (10th generation) and the extended keyboard with the num pad (a must have for me) and I paid $700 and had it the next day.  I believe the same configuration and model on Dell.com was just shy of $1200.
