When I put focus on the RSS feeds option and go to the context menu, I do find “add an RSS feed”.

 

I guess the next thing I have to figure out is how to get the RSS Feed address from the National Weather Service office web site.

Hello, everyone.

 

As some of you may know, I am a licensed ham radio operator, and I am the severe weather SKYWARN Team Coordinator for my county here in West Michigan.

 

Until recently, I was automatically receiveing the hazardous weather outlooks from our area National Weather Service  office via an e-mail list that our County emergency communications group had created and maintained.

 

I am now no longer receiveing these hazardous weather outlooks via the e-mail list, despite a number of attempts to re-subscribe.  Furthermore, our County emergency communications group seems to have no real interest in maintaining the list, so I am thinking it is now a thing of the past.

 

Someone has suggested that I do something with an RSS reader to resume getting these outlooks automatically.

 

I’m currently using Microsoft 365 and Outlook e-mail on a Windows 10 laptop with the latest version of Jaws 2021.

 

While scrolling through my Outlook folder options, I do notice something called RSS feeds, but have no idea how to access or set up the needed RSS feed.

 

If anyone can give me a quick explanation of RSS feeds, and some steps for getting them set up, I’ll give it a try.

In all the years I've done Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrades, I think I've had one or two machines that didn't "come through perfectly."  And by perfectly I am including their behavior under Windows 10 after the upgrade and the ability of those machines to keep marching forward as Feature Updates have rolled out.

But my personal practice in my business is always to do an in-place upgrade then have the client keep an eye on things afterward.  I have yet to have a single one call back with issues.  Those that did have issues displayed them either by the in-place upgrade failing, or with peculiar behavior from upgraded Windows 10 right after I've finished the upgrade and am doing quick checks.

But I do completely clean reinstalls only as a last resort after an in-place upgrade has failed.  And I'll do a repair install on the system before even considering doing a completely clean reinstall.  Most customers have a lot of time, effort, and money invested in exactly what's on their computers, and having to start from scratch is something I do my utmost to help them avoid.

Open the System Tray with Windows+b or insert+f11.
Arrow to Dropbox and hit enter, that should bring up the context menu.
Arrow to Preferences.
You will have lots of tabs, right arrow to the Sync tab and explore those settings.

Well, I am not a dropbox expert, but there is a parameter in dropbox which controls whether your computer syncs with dropbox and that should be on -- I don't know where that is, but that is the one to look for.

Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, using the Windows 10 upgrade utility or, did you install a fresh installation of Windows 10?
 
I performed a fresh installation of Windows 10 Professional last year, replacing Windows 7 professional, on an HP Pavillion DV6 laptop, which I purchased in 2012. It is running the latest update of JAWS 2021 and the system is fully up-to-date with Windows 10. So far, I have had kno problems with the audio function using this laptop.

Under the JAWS Utilities > Sound Card Submenue, I have JAWS set to use the on-board sound card., I have Windows set to have all other audio use the USB sound card.

Before I installed the latest version of Total Recorder, and I started recording from an online stream or, from an external source, JAWS continued using the on-board sound card and therefore was not included in the recording, which meant, for example, I could monitor how much time had elapsed, since the recording had started.

Which sound card is total recorder actually set to use (check
regardless of what you had it set to prior to this update)?

If it's set to use the on-board audio it would not surprise me if it
selects some kind of exclusive mode forcing jaws onto the USB audio.
If this is indeed the case then setting total recorder to use the USB
audio should take care of your problem.

Well, first, it sounds like a note to both Jaws and Total Recorder could
be in Order.

But, if you do not need Jaws talking while you are recording, you could
put it in speech on demand.

Ubt if you are used to being able to check things with jaws while it is
running, then it sounds like something changed on the programming side of
the world.

Is there a script for this program that could be updated if you contacted
the script author?

Before I start recording, JAWS speach is definitely using the on-board
sound card. When I press the Record button and start recording, this is when
JAWS speach is routed through the USB sound card. When I press the Stop
Button, and stop recording, JAWS speach is again routed through the on-board
sound card.

I have not used Total Recorder, but have you opened the Jaws menu with
insert=j and under utilities, Sound card, see if jaws is indeed going to the
USB and reselecting the onboard soundcard?

I am using the latest update to JAWS 2021 and the system I am referring
too, is up-to-date with Windows 10.



In addition to the on-board sound card, I am using a Creative Labs Sound
Blaster USB sound card.



By default, I have JAWS using the on-board sound card and the rest of
the audio using the USB sound card.



Earlier today, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Total
Recorder. Prior to doing that, whenever I have updated Total Recorder, JAWS
speach has never been included in any recording.



However, When I tried to record something, using the latest version of
Total Recorder, JAWS speach is being routed through the USB sound card and
therefore being included in the recording.



Has anyone else had this problem, if so, how did you stop JAWS speach
being included in your recordings?

If the machine still boots into Windows 10, I'd recommend:  Doing a Windows 10 Repair Install or Feature Update Using the Windows 10 ISO file

I realize if you have no access to screen reader output you'll need a sighted assistant.  You wouldn't if you had audio.  But this gets you as close to a completely clean reinstall of Windows 10 as you can get without actually doing one, and your user data files and your installed applications are retained.

If that still doesn't do the trick, I agree with Glenn that you should go to the manufacturer's support pages for your specific make/model and download the most recent device driver(s) available for the device(s) that still don't function.

If that doesn't work, then I'd suspect hardware failure.  But that would only be a suspicion without additional diagnosis.

Well, that can be true, if you're buying from an amateur "refurbisher." It's absolutely false if you're buying an OEM factory refurbished machine.  Those ship from their manufacturers having been absolutely, completely reviewed for functionality and their drives freshly reimaged.  No OEM would ever ship out a machine that could have residual data on it from whatever source it came from for refurbishing.  They're also generally "like new," with any components that might need to be replaced having been so.

That's why I often recommend factory OEM refurbished machines for those on a budget.  And I've bought multiple factory refurbished machines myself.  Very often they've just been opened and cannot be sold again as new.  And you can get business class machines off lease, and refurbished, for very good prices and they're more durable than consumer grade hardware.

Hey guys,

So this problem really has me confused. It's almost like it's not
sinking the right way. When I go to the dropbox Icon it says up to
date. Now, when I load the dropbox app on my iphoen, I see files
there that are in dropbox, that didn't make it to my local machine.
Yet it says it's up to date. I have smart sink turned off, and I have
it set to local. Any experts here on dropbox who can help?

You can likely go to the site of the maker and put in the model and download all the drivers for it, maybe even recovery media.

It came to me as a refurbished lap top with windows 10 installed. Brian could answer this perhaps. When I took it to the tech after getting no where with MS help desk 1st teer then 2nd teer tech support, the tech at the chain of stores, told me when they refurbish a computer, all they do is look for the immediate problems, then ship it out. Which to mean they note that the audio driver or another driver is on it’s last legs, so to speak, they don’t fix it just send it out. I don’t expect a brand new computer, but, don’t give me a horse that is lame either.

Do you have some older audio drivers for that computer?

If so, I would delete the audio device in device manager, then install the old driver, and reboot.

Phoned them, they looked for a new driver and could find nothing.  It went to the 2nd teer of tech support and I got someone who sounded like he had 4 Kleenexes over his mouth. He really should invest in a better headset.  Anyway he got us to do a restore from 10 days prior to the sound card crashing, that was useless.  Still the same problem, no sound.  I took it to a chain of stores who have computer techs there and one of them told me, he suspects the culprit is the latest windows update as what I thought was the culprit, I installed a demo of Total recorder on my lap top and that’s when it all happened.  He said it could not have been the installation of total recorder. Total recorder strongly suggests before purchasing any of their products, you try it out first.  Once you purchase the product, no refunds are forth coming.

help. Is it me, or is dropbox not accessible in terms of the app? So
here's my issue. I use a program on my phone to record some stuff and
it goes to dropbox directly from that app. The good news, it's going
there. The bad news, I can't determine whether my local dropbox on an
external harddrive is sinking properly. It says when i hit insert
f11, and arrow up and down until I find dropbox, it says, dropbox, and
it reads a bunch of numbers, and it says up to date. So when I press
enter on that Icon it says nothing. I suspect something isn't sinking
properly or something. So, what's the best way to make adjustments in
the dropbox app? It hardly seems accessible at all. I'm running the
latest jaws 2021. Can someone help?

It came to me as a refurbished lap top with windows 10 installed. Brian could answer this perhaps. When I took it to the tech after getting no where with MS help desk 1st teer then 2nd teer tech support, the tech at the chain of stores, told me when they refurbish a computer, all they do is look for the immediate problems, then ship it out. Which to mean they note that the audio driver or another driver is on it’s last legs, so to speak, they don’t fix it just send it out. I don’t expect a brand new computer, but, don’t give me a horse that is lame either.

Do you have some older audio drivers for that computer?

If so, I would delete the audio device in device manager, then install the old driver, and reboot.

Phoned them, they looked for a new driver and could find nothing.  It went to the 2nd teer of tech support and I got someone who sounded like he had 4 Kleenexes over his mouth. He really should invest in a better headset.  Anyway he got us to do a restore from 10 days prior to the sound card crashing, that was useless.  Still the same problem, no sound.  I took it to a chain of stores who have computer techs there and one of them told me, he suspects the culprit is the latest windows update as what I thought was the culprit, I installed a demo of Total recorder on my lap top and that’s when it all happened.  He said it could not have been the installation of total recorder. Total recorder strongly suggests before purchasing any of their products, you try it out first.  Once you purchase the product, no refunds are forth coming.
