Hi Rosie.

I'm using Windows 10 on my laptop. If you asked me a couple of months ago, I would have said, without hesitation, Edge was it for me. I started a job in April, and they required Google Chrome. That browser works well also. Having more than one browser can come in handy, because some sites work better in one than another with JAWS. If you only want a single browser for your use, Edge does a good job, and it's part of Windows 10.

Hope this helps. I'm by no means a power user in this area, so others' opinions are welcome.

If these methods don’t work, try turning on the JAWS cursor, locating the button with that cursor, then pressing Jaws key+the PC key. This used to work often, but less so lately.

 

Then if that fails, try the touch cursor, shift-PC key and locating the button in case pressing enter works.

 

It crosses my mind that turning off JAWS and going with Narrator might be an option, but I’ve never tried it.

 

Little is more frustrating than going through an entire form, only for the last button not to work with a screenreader.

Have you tried using a different browser to see if the results are the same?  Also, after pressing spacebar or enter on the confirmation button try pressing, Insert + escape, to refresh / repaint the screen and see if that'll help.  I've found that on many websites the chromium browsers are slow to respond to key commands.

I have been using Total Recorder professional addition for fifteen years or mor and I got it to work without it recording the screen reader once. However, when I had to do a new install on another PC I could never get it to record properly again. So, if someone has a solution post it please! (smile) Having said that I found this information on the web regarding this specific issue.

If recording in Background recording mode is impossible or you have the Standard Edition of Total Recorder, then set Total Recorder to record in Software mode using the Total Recorder kernel-mode audio driver. For this:

Launch the installation of Total Recorder.
In the third step of the installation wizard (next to accepting the License Agreement) click Advanced... button.
In the Total Recorder driver dialog opened uncheck all options but Install kernel-mode virtual device driver. Hit OK.
Complete the installation. Then reboot.
Set a screen-reader to use directly your soundcard driver (not Total Recorder driver).

Which sound card is total recorder actually set to use (check
regardless of what you had it set to prior to this update)?

If it's set to use the on-board audio it would not surprise me if it
selects some kind of exclusive mode forcing jaws onto the USB audio.
If this is indeed the case then setting total recorder to use the USB
audio should take care of your problem.

I am using the latest update to JAWS 2021 and the system I

Creative Labs Sound
Blaster USB sound card.



By default, I have JAWS using the on-board sound card and the rest of
the audio using the USB sound card.



Earlier today, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Total
Recorder. Prior to doing that, whenever I have updated Total
Recorder, JAWS
speach has never been included in any recording.



However, When I tried to record something, using the

sound card and
therefore being included in the recording.

One thing you might want to try is to go into the total recorder
settings and change the driver to only monitor the usb sound card -- I

Jaws does not read the names or titles of the message. I have to hit
inscert up arrow to read but that seems to stop quickly before
switching to "read" and "unread" without telling me when the sender or

I don't see why those shouldn't work.  Personally, I find that method to be "the long way."  There is an Add item in the context menu for the RSS Feed entry in the Outlook Folder Tree and it pretty much walks you right through adding the feed URL that you have.

This is one of those, "It's not rocket science," sort of things.  More of a "fill in the blank with the correct RSS Feed URL" and hit OK.  (There may be a couple of more steps, but I don't want to fully configure an RSS Feed I don't want.)

Hello, everyone.

 

As some of you may know, I am a licensed ham radio operator, and I am the severe weather SKYWARN Team Coordinator for my county here in West Michigan.

 

Until recently, I was automatically receiveing the hazardous weather outlooks from our area National Weather Service  office via an e-mail list that our County emergency communications group had created and maintained.

 

I am now no longer receiveing these hazardous weather outlooks via the e-mail list, despite a number of attempts to re-subscribe.  Furthermore, our County emergency communications group seems to have no real interest in maintaining the list, so I am thinking it is now a thing of the past.

 

Someone has suggested that I do something with an RSS reader to resume getting these outlooks automatically.

 

I’m currently using Microsoft 365 and Outlook e-mail on a Windows 10 laptop with the latest version of Jaws 2021.

 

While scrolling through my Outlook folder options, I do notice something called RSS feeds, but have no idea how to access or set up the needed RSS feed.

 

If anyone can give me a quick explanation of RSS feeds, and some steps for getting them set up, I’ll give it a try.

In all the years I've done Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrades, I think I've had one or two machines that didn't "come through perfectly."  And by perfectly I am including their behavior under Windows 10 after the upgrade and the ability of those machines to keep marching forward as Feature Updates have rolled out.

Most that are problematic won't even make it through the upgrade process, or will be very cranky in short order afterward if they do.  I used to say on various groups, and frequently, that if you have an ill-maintained and flaky Windows 7 instance you simply cannot expect the upgrade process to go smoothly or, if it does, that the Windows 10 instance so created will be trouble free.  You can't build a house on quicksand and expect it to stand.

But my personal practice in my business is always to do an in-place upgrade then have the client keep an eye on things afterward.  I have yet to have a single one call back with issues.  Those that did have issues displayed them either by the in-place upgrade failing, or with peculiar behavior from upgraded Windows 10 right after I've finished the upgrade and am doing quick checks.

But I do completely clean reinstalls only as a last resort after an in-place upgrade has failed.  And I'll do a repair install on the system before even considering doing a completely clean reinstall.  Most customers have a lot of time, effort, and money invested in exactly what's on their computers, and having to start from scratch is something I do my utmost to help them avoid.

Open the System Tray with Windows+b or insert+f11.
Arrow to Dropbox and hit enter, that should bring up the context menu.
Arrow to Preferences.
You will have lots of tabs, right arrow to the Sync tab and explore those settings.

Well, I am not a dropbox expert, but there is a parameter in dropbox which controls whether your computer syncs with dropbox and that should be on -- I don't know where that is, but that is the one to look for.

How old is your HP computer?
 
Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, using the Windows 10 upgrade utility or, did you install a fresh installation of Windows 10?
 
I performed a fresh installation of Windows 10 Professional last year, replacing Windows 7 professional, on an HP Pavillion DV6 laptop, which I purchased in 2012. It is running the latest update of JAWS 2021 and the system is fully up-to-date with Windows 10. So far, I have had kno problems with the audio function using this laptop.
 
Personally, I have never trusted Microsoft's upgrade utilities, to migrate any system, from an existing version of Windows, to a new version of Windows, despite the aggrovation of installing and setting up the software in the new operating system.

        I know this is a stretch but, I don’t think I’m on the windows group anymore.  My audio driver does not work.  The explanation is, after the latest windows update, the HP windows 7, upgraded to windows 10, could not handle the new update and the audio driver crashed.  Because of the age, apparently there are no audio drivers available for Win 7 H P computers.  Thus, tying this in with JAWS, no audio driver, no sound from any screen reader.

Under the JAWS Utilities > Sound Card Submenue, I have JAWS set to use the on-board sound card., I have Windows set to have all other audio use the USB sound card.

Before I installed the latest version of Total Recorder, and I started recording from an online stream or, from an external source, JAWS continued using the on-board sound card and therefore was not included in the recording, which meant, for example, I could monitor how much time had elapsed, since the recording had started.

Which sound card is total recorder actually set to use (check
regardless of what you had it set to prior to this update)?

If it's set to use the on-board audio it would not surprise me if it
selects some kind of exclusive mode forcing jaws onto the USB audio.
If this is indeed the case then setting total recorder to use the USB
audio should take care of your problem.

Well, first, it sounds like a note to both Jaws and Total Recorder could
be in Order.

But, if you do not need Jaws talking while you are recording, you could
put it in speech on demand.

Ubt if you are used to being able to check things with jaws while it is
running, then it sounds like something changed on the programming side of
the world.

Is there a script for this program that could be updated if you contacted
the script author?

Before I start recording, JAWS speach is definitely using the on-board
sound card. When I press the Record button and start recording, this is when
JAWS speach is routed through the USB sound card. When I press the Stop
Button, and stop recording, JAWS speach is again routed through the on-board
sound card.

I have not used Total Recorder, but have you opened the Jaws menu with
insert=j and under utilities, Sound card, see if jaws is indeed going to the
USB and reselecting the onboard soundcard?

Hello Everyone:



I am using the latest update to JAWS 2021 and the system I am referring
too, is up-to-date with Windows 10.



In addition to the on-board sound card, I am using a Creative Labs Sound
Blaster USB sound card.



By default, I have JAWS using the on-board sound card and the rest of
the audio using the USB sound card.



Earlier today, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Total
Recorder. Prior to doing that, whenever I have updated Total Recorder, JAWS
speach has never been included in any recording.



However, When I tried to record something, using the latest version of
Total Recorder, JAWS speach is being routed through the USB sound card and
therefore being included in the recording.



Has anyone else had this problem, if so, how did you stop JAWS speach
being included in your recordings?
