Yeah, I'm about to ditch them anyway.
They are discontinuing eMail service to its customers, and there is a new game in town, Allo communications, and they provide eMail, but now that I have had to switch everything to a new name.com eMail, I would not need it from Allo, but they are less expensive than Sparklight, and I've talked to them about accessible boxes for our TVs.

I have an old gripe with Xfinity and Oregon Public Broadcasting, (OPB).

Many shows that are broadcast have Audio Description, unless you are trying to access it through Xfinity and OPB combined.  That same show, broadcast at the same time, in another state, has audio description; but not here.

OPB blames Xfinity, Xfinity blames OPB.

I’ve gotten nowhere and stopped supporting OPB, which is a minor drop in a vast bucket; but it may be that the show is providing it, but it is not making it through your local provider.

Hi, Richard. Did you go into the advanced settings and make the changes suggested a couple of days ago? If not, do the following,

1. Open Firefox.

2. In the Address Bar, type the following,

about:config

3. When it gives you the option to accept the risk and continue, Press ENTER on that button.

4. After accepting the risk, an edit box will come up that allows you to enter something to find. Enter the following into that box,

skeleton

5. TAB to the entry that says,

browser.startup.preXulSkeletonUI

6. Arrow down, and you will see a toggle button.

7. Toggle browser.startup.preXulSkeletonUI=True to

browser.startup.preXulSkeletonUI=False

8. Once this is done, close Firefox.

9. Now Firefox should behave as it has in the past.

Hi!

I am using JAWS 2020 and Windows 10.  In the past, if I clicked on a link somewhere like within an email or a desktop shortcut, Firefox (my default browser) would launch and I would be automatically switch to that window.  Now, when I click on a link, Firefox launches but I *am not* switched to that window.  To get to the newly launched Firefox window, I have to tab around to it.  Seemingly, this started with the latest update to Firefox.  How can I return to the functionality where upon clicking on a link I get automatically switched to the Firefox window?

Thanks,

Well, first, it sounds like a note to both Jaws and Total Recorder could be in Order.

But, if you do not need Jaws talking while you are recording, you could put it in speech on demand.

Ubt if you are used to being able to check things with jaws while it is running, then it sounds like something changed on the programming side of the world.

Is there a script for this program that could be updated if you contacted the script author?

Hello Everyone:

I am using the latest update to JAWS 2021 and the system I am referring too, is up-to-date with Windows 10.

In addition to the on-board sound card, I am using a Creative Labs Sound Blaster USB sound card.

By default, I have JAWS using the on-board sound card and the rest of the audio using the USB sound card.

Earlier today, I downloaded and installed the latest version of Total Recorder. Prior to doing that, whenever I have updated Total Recorder, JAWS speach has never been included in any recording.

However, When I tried to record something, using the latest version of Total Recorder, JAWS speach is being routed through the USB sound card and therefore being included in the recording.

Has anyone else had this problem, if so, how did you stop JAWS speach being included in your recordings?

Thank you in anticipation.

I almost didn’t bother with the link but thought, well, it won’t take but 30 seconds to find out what this is about, so I did.

In fact, it took a little less time, than writing an email.

A link isn't good enough.

I think it is not too much to ask for someone to send more information.

When on a petition page especially.  There is always a description of the petition, or the entire thing can be copied and easily pasted into a message.

I often do this with articles, instead of just the link, to make reading easier for folks.

It's just laziness on someone's part to not paste the information into a message.

I see a lot of shows in my TV listings showing audio description, but when I turn on audio description, there is either nothing there, or part of the audio is missing from the show, like you will get everything but dialog.
I think some channels don't want to be hounded by the FCC, so they say that they are providing audio description, when they are sometimes not.

Not to be a killjoy, but this has been being asked for over many, many years.

Glen,

Perhaps your message would sit better if it were address directly to the original sender.

Richard:

Before I start recording, JAWS speach is definitely using the on-board sound card. When I press the Record button and start recording, this is when JAWS speach is routed through the USB sound card. When I press the Stop Button, and stop recording, JAWS speach is again routed through the on-board sound card.

I have not used Total Recorder, but have you opened the Jaws menu with insert=j and under utilities, Sound card, see if jaws is indeed going to the USB and reselecting the onboard soundcard?

Subject: How can I stop JAWS speach being included in recordings using the latest version of Total Recorder ?

Dave Durber

On my new computer which I am slowly changing, I have the latest Jaws, I am having a issue windows 10. When I leave the computer for a short time the computer goes to a screen which has buttons on it such as screen lock, Internet, power, ease of access, and a few other buttons. When I come to this screen I usually have to go to the power button and restart the computer. How can I fix so I do not have to deal with this computer screen problem. Any help will be appreciated.
