Good morning, Jeff Lukacsena,

First of all, sorry for providing the same links as mentioned in the other mail. I wrote my mail without knowing about this answer.

Since JAWS scripting isn't a wide spread scripting language there are not so much resources out there. Here are a few of them:

A introduction in JAWS scripting from Freedom Scientific:

https://support.freedomscientific.com/Content/Documents/Other/ScriptManual/01-0_Introduction.htm

Here's the same resource as above but as self-extracting file:

https://support.freedomscientific.com/Content/Documents/Other/Basics_of_Scripting.exe

Most important in scripting is the FSDN. This is windows help file in CHM with all of the functions available in JAWS. There are some common standards and introductions to special themes included as well.

https://support.freedomscientific.com/support/jawsdocumentation/FSDN

If you dive deeper into scripting there's also a list of properties and methods regarding UIA. UIA is the accessibility feature most used this days, especially in modern windows apps from Microsoft Store but not alone for this kind of apps.

https://support.freedomscientific.com/support/jawsdocumentation/UIAScriptAPI

If you want to exchange and ask questions about scripting there's a mailing list at FreeLists. You can find solutions of typical problems in the archive and of corse ask questions to the list members:

https://www.freelists.org/list/jawsscripts

If you want to script web sites, for example to execute buttons, bring something to focus or similar things, then you might interested in the domain-specific scripting, also a part of JAWS scripting language. You can find an introduction here:

https://doccenter.freedomscientific.com/doccenter2/doccenter/rs25c51746a0cc/DomainScripts/02_DomainScripts.htm

Some personal thoughts:

Freedom Scientific made a lot of applications accessible with scripts. All of this files are include with source code. To my opinion it's a good thing to study them as well and see how Freedom solved problems.

At first glance it could be deterrent effect, look all this code stuff especially if scripting in general is new to you. And the focus of the introductions and maybe other resources I forget to mentions is on using JAWS Cursor and the so-called OSM (= Off Screen Model). But this approach is disappearing more and more. The new apps from Microsoft Store as well as some often used programs like Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel are using UIA and therefore not usable with OSM (= JAWS Cursor). This can be very frustrating because you want to practice OSM scripting and this things don't work with UIA.

On the other hand you need some kind of introduction and there's not beginner tutorial based on UIA.

I don't want to scare you off but I think it could be helpful to know about this things to avoid frustration.

I think best way is to stay in exchange with the mailing list mentioned above and ask. Perhaps there are more tips and answers available there and the members are always willing to help.

Good luck and happy scripting

I believe the Zoom notifications being discussed here are from Zoom, not
JAWS. As Jim posted, alt + Windows + s should turn off the Zoom
notifications provided you are using JAWS 2020 or later and your Zoom client
is updated.

Alt+spacebar, then 's' toggles between speech on demand and full
speech. Speech on demand causes JAWS to speak only when spoken to, with
nothing volunteered. If you press a reading command--insert+up arrow--JAWS
will respond to it. However, commands like alt-tab, where speech is not
involved, are silent. I like this setting, but I often forget it is turned
on and wonder why JAWS isn't talking.

Microsoft is going to show off
what's next for Windows during a public event at 11am ET on June 24 . This will be the event where Microsoft will show off and talk about the "new Windows"
variant that many of us Microsoft watchers have been writing about for a number of months.

Last week, during Microsoft's Build 2021 conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said
Microsoft would share more "soon" about the next Windows . He said it would be "the most significant updates of Windows of the past decade." He said he
has been self-hosting it over the past several months and called it "the next generation of Windows."

This Windows variant is expected to include the
"Sun Valley" user-interface refresh
, as well as some underlying improvements, such as better touch capabilities and a new app Store, based on various leaks.

Microsoft officials have not said what this new Windows will be branded, but some are expecting it to be called
"Windows 11."
Others think it could just be called "Windows" with no qualifiers.

I'm expecting that this "new" Windows will not be the Windows 10 21H2 update. I think it will be more targeted at consumers and not be classified as a
normal feature update. I believe Microsoft will continue to release regular Windows 10 feature updates alongside this other Windows variant for some months/years
in the future, though no one from Microsoft has yet said this publicly.

Microsoft officials have been signaling that they want to give Windows a bigger play in 2021. By introducing a "new" Windows variant, they also will try
to help their OEM partners in their quest to get users to buy brand new PCs.

Kinda, sorta, but not exactly.  Since 21H2 is nowhere near to "finished" what you have isn't close to the final version that will ship as 21H2, but it's the currently available preview for insiders.

See:  https://wccftech.com/new-build-alert-for-windows-10-21h2-insiders-in-the-dev-channel/

I don't do the Insider thing anymore, so I don't generally keep up with the Dev builds/Insider builds at all.  But even the article that's spawned a thousand hand-wrings made direct reference to this:  https://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-sun-valley-ui-october-2021-update

Sun Valley has been known to be what will become 21H2 for quite a while now.

Hi Adrian,

Without knowing what someone has their settings set at one can only suggest something to try to see if it'll help their situation.  Clarence stated that he's constantly having to refresh a webpage, so if that's the case maybe setting the page refresh setting to automatic will help, but he'll have to play around with settings to see what works best for him.

I totally understand what you're saying and I totally agree, because like you i use the, Jaws key + escape, keystroke to repaint on a regular basis with some websites, but with others it's not necessary.  What gets irritating on websites like Amazon is the lag time between a keystroke press and the website recognizing the action.

Also what's irritating is the computerlingo, repainting vs. refreshing, why can't theyall just get along?  LOL  LOL

Mike and Clarence,

Terminology confuses me here. There’s the Windows F5 key for reloading a page and the JAWS insert-escape to “repaint” a page, as Vispero calls it. If I’m not mistaken, “refresh” in the quick JAWS settings determines how often, if at all, a page will refresh. I have this setting at never, or the equivalent, to avoid situations where webpages keep being updated.

Clarence, if you’re encountering the situation I do all the time, I can say only that I routinely press JAWS key-escape when I open a new webpage. After that, it stays the way I want.

But I could be wrong. Maybe try Mike’s suggestion and see if it does the job. If not, you might use that setting to prevent pages from refreshing and combine it with Vispero’s repaint. An extra step is annoying, but after a while it becomes an unthinking habit.

Hi Clarence,

While in Edge press, Insert + V, to open Jaws quick settings and do a search for, page refresh, and you should get 2 results.  Press the spacebar to toggle through the settings and stop on the setting you want.  Now tab to, Okay, and press enter to save / close.

And, while in Edge press, Insert + 6, on the number row and do a search for, page refresh, use the spacebar to toggle through your options, then apply and your okay you're way out to save / close.

Yes.  There was a group I attempted to join years ago, it turned out the owner was in a nursing home and no one ever took the group over.  How it stayed active is anyone’s guess.  I just got an email every week stating my subscription was pending approval by the owner. I asked someone else and that was when I was told there was no active owner/moderator for that group anymore.

Hi,

I'm working on resubscribing to all the lists I'm on, because my ISP is discontinuing eMail service to its customers.

Does anyone know if anyone is managing Blind-L?

I sent a subscribe to the list, but nothing has come back.

Thanks.

OK I don't know how in the hell I ended up on this group. I don't appreciate it. I'm reporting the mod/owner to groups.io

I don't know. But perhaps, if the group is on groups.io, you could go
online and just change your email address. Instead of constantly
subscribing to groups. If you need help doing this, please let me
know. And I will be glad to walk you through the steps.

Blind-L does get a few, I don't know if there are more than of a handful of members though.

Here’s the subscription address for the other list I mentioned earlier:

vicug-l-subscribe-request@...

It’s very similar to the blind-l list only, it’s actually being managed.

Okay, please let me know what you find. I did a quick google search and the one address I found to subscribe I got a delivery failure email. I am on a list that sounds rather similar to the blind-l list, if you’d like the subscription address then please just let me know.
