Hi,

I'm working on resubscribing to all the lists I'm on, because my ISP is discontinuing eMail service to its customers.

Does anyone know if anyone is managing Blind-L?

I sent a subscribe to the list, but nothing has come back.

Thanks.

Not to mention that the article title used by WindowsCentral to describe the October 2021 (or thereabouts) update is:  Microsoft plans big Windows 10 UI refresh in 2021 codenamed 'Sun Valley'

Other tech press says pretty much the same thing.  This is not going to be anything like the transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8, which was a complete shift in design idiom, which was partially reversed by Windows 10 on its introduction.  It is, for the most part, a refresh of the visual aspects of the UI (the previews of which I don't like, as the flat look is getting even flatter and everything's getting "more square cornered"), not a major change to how Windows 10 has been working for some time now.

There will, of course, be bumps, as there always are for the major feature updates.  But everything you already know and are familiar with how to use is not likely to change one iota.  And for someone who cannot see, what the UI looks like is irrelevant.

Microsoft has a commitment to accessibility, they have a dedicated team for this and for making Narrator more of a full-featured screenreader and this process is certainly ongoing and that is really all we need to know. Will there be potential setbacks? Very likely, in large corporations like Microsoft there is often a bit of a disconnect and even rivalry between teams who work on certain projects or aspects of the same platform, but overall none of these large companies will ever abandon accessibility as a priority especially not as time passes and more and more people experience limitations to various degrees whether it's hearing or vision, motor or cognitive.

For the most part we do live in a time which presents never before experienced opportunities for blind people and others with disabilities, yes, I know there is still a disproportionate number of unemployed blind people, but there are also a lot of blind and visually impaired people who have completed advanced education degrees and who work in jobs which were not available even a few decades ago. When I lost my sight in 1984 at the age of 16 back in Germany many older people in my small town felt a lot of pity for me and my family, they thought my life was over and my family would be burdened with me for the rest of my life. I doubt many of them would have never even imagined that a few years later I would immigrate to Canada, complete a Bachelor degree in business and start a retail store where I now own a beautifully renovated building and employ 2 full-time and 2-3 part-time employees. I have other friends who went to school with me in Germany who are judges, lawyers, computer scientists and more. All of it is because technology makes it possible.

I hear what you are saying about new technology, and the need to keep up with it.

But, weren't we promised by Microsoft at one point that there would be no new operating system beyond Windows 10, with all future changes being implemented within that particular operating system?

Maybe I'm loosing my mind, but I swear I read that info from several credible sources.

If this new operating system is really going to happen, I truly wonder how many people will go for it, especially since we all (or many of us) just upgraded to Windows 10 fairly recently.

Ok, I'll stop my rant now.

Good evening Randy,

Thanks for sharing this news and for posting it too the list. My question here is, if we all have windows 10 on our computers, will this new windows operating system enable us too get it as an upgrade, or will we be forced too purchase it through Microsoft. Also, I'm wondering if Jaws or Vespero is aware of this change to windows, and its new operating system. Looks like for us, it's going to be catch up time once again, and another learning curve that we'll have too deal with. But I suppose, that is what technology is all about.

Microsoft
has announced
an event taking place on June 24 where it will unveil the next generation of Windows. The event will be online, and begin at 11AM Eastern Time. The company is expected to unveil a new user interface and feature set for Windows, and possibly position this new version of Windows as "Windows 11."

The company has been working on a complete rejuvenation of the Windows Desktop user interface (codenamed Sun Valley) for some time, and this event will be where the company finally shows off what it's been building. Windows 10 has been the latest version of Windows for six years, and has remained much the same.

Sun Valley is expected to deliver a new Start menu and Taskbar layout, icons, sounds, app designs, and fluid animations. Microsoft may take this user experience rejuvenation effort as a chance to ship a "new" version of Windows, and we think it could possibly fall under the Windows 11
moniker. We'll have to wait and see what Microsoft actually does at the event on June 24.

Microsoft recently canceled plans to ship a new version of Windows called Windows 10X, which was built on a modern version of the OS called Windows Core OS.
Windows 10X was first going to ship on dual-screen PCs like the Surface Neo before being repositioned as a platform that would compete against Chromebooks in the low-end market.

The company has announced that it will be bringing the best of Windows 10X to the full version of Windows now that 10X isn't coming. Perhaps we'll see the result of that at this event on June 24.

Do you like the name Windows 11?

We're on the cusp of seeing the biggest Windows news drop in a long time. Could it be the unveiling of Windows 11, and if it is, is that an OS name that excites you?

moderated jJeff Lukacsena: question on Jaws scripting

Jeff Lukacsena

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew a place to find out how to learn how to do scripting for Jaws?

Thanks,

Jeff Lukacsena

Have you tried doing an uninstall and reinstall of OrangeCD?  If not, I'd suggest trying that.

It also still appears to be in development with the latest version having been released in July 2020, Version 6.5.8.27126
Is that the version you've got running on your machine?

What we need is, someone from Microsoft to tell us.
