moderated JAWS and read only fields

Hi, I have a user who is complaining that JAWS is announcing “Read-only” fields along with type in text” and they think that the read only fields should not say “type in text”.

This has never really bothered me too much but is there a way to control this? I sure cannot find any documentation on stopping that unless it would be a scheme of some kind.

Hi William, 

what do you want do do exactly: Open a new web page und if a particular word is on the site then hearing a sound? Or on the other hand walking through the site and if JAWS detects during your visit a particular word then play a sound? 

The first one could be solved via using a script but I think it's important to know the browser you are using. 

The second one could be made by using a dictionary entry for JAWS Dictionary but instead of speaking a word one could use a sound. These dictionary entries could also be made for a particular site and not only for the browser itself.

To cause JAWS to speak the TAB character when TAB is pressed,

1. Open the Settings Center with the keystroke, Jaws key + 6, on the number
row.
2. Press, control, shift + D, to open default all applications.
3. In the search box, type "key labels"
4. Arrow down to Manage Key Labels, and press SPACE.
5. Press the letter T, and it will take you to Tab Tab mute.
6. Now tab 1 time an you'll hear, toggle mute button, so press the spacebar
to hear, Tab Tab speak.
7. Tab to OK, and press the spacebar.
8. Tab again to Okay, and press ENTER to save and close.

Bring up the JAWS settings center. I forget what section of the setting it's in. This is off by default thank you Jesus. I used to get so annoyed in past versions of JAWS. Glad they have this feature.

Your second option is the better one. Bluetooth doesn’t use your Sound driver. It works like an external sound card. Using Bluetooth headphones, if you have them, should allow you to do it all without losing your screen reader.
