I have a Brother laser one like that that doesn't use ink, but I haven't had a lot of success using it.

Definitely, I have a Zebra one at my store for printing price tags. They don't use ink, it's some sort of thermal technology and the labels are on a roll, I think the ones I have are 2.5 inches high and 3.5 inches wide. Our point of sale program prints directly to that printer, all I have to do is activate the "Print Label" button which is on the left in front of each product in the list and it sends it to the printer.

These forums are for asking questions, but it is not too much to ask for people to at least read the messages which are already there. As Richard pointed out, the name of the list and the subscribe address were already provided, some people just can't be bothered to spend even a few minutes reading the messages from a particular topic/thread before asking again.

Why do we even have these forms if every time someone ask a question they are told to go search on the internet?

Maybe some people like the contact with other people.  Nothing wrong with that. There is one person on here, and he is either on or has been on other forms who can’t answer a question without belittling everyone.  Too bad too because he is very knowledgeable.  Why not just answer the question and go on and don’t worry about all the other stuff.

Hi:

I also would like to know about the other jfw users list.  I’m happy to hear that the discussion stays on jaws issues more closely.

This group list has been pretty good. Some excellent info.  However, I sure could do without the preaching and belittling that takes place.

There is absolutely no reason to keep pointing out well if you did a google search you would of found out….

Because my approach is there is no dumb questions.  Besides who knows, maybe sure the answer is out on the net, but it was written by a either non jaws user or a sighted person who does use jaws a bit, but also has their screen on.

Note: Eric Danbery from Freedom Scientific is fully sighted, but he uses Jaws with his screen turned off to ensure that he is experiencing exactly what Jaws users who can not see the screen are experiencing.

It becomes very  important when one has to deal with complicated screen layouts.  Can a person who doesn’t see the screen easily get the information they need or not.

So I’ll also go check out the other list.  This list is also pretty good here, but please please everyone remember we are here to support each other.  Not to keep pointing out well if you did a google search….

Because the benefit of asking questions of people who use the speech program i.e. Jaws is that sometimes you will get special gems of short cuts etc from them.

Have a good day everyone.

Dymo nakes a huge assortment of all sorts of label printers connected to a computer or which work via WiFi, they make stand-alone label writers and even shipping scales, you can get an idea here:

Alison,

So I'm confused, does this print on Dymo tape, or paper labels?

And, is it doing Braille, like a label gun, or is it doing print?

I was of the impression that you put in Dymo tape, and it embosses the Braille, like a Braille label gun.

Thanks.

No, you insert a roll of address labels into the Dymo printer, which is probably about 6 inches tall by six or seven inches long and connects via USB to the computer.

The way I have been using it is to select the address, paste it into a blank Word page, press alt and arrow along to Dymo, hit enter and then print, but at the moment Jaws is being a bit stubborn about reading the menu options in the Dymo Tab but I have learnt how to overcome this by counting the number of times to tab.

It then prints the label, which I tear off at the serrated edge.

The labels are self-adhesive and ideal for putting on envelopes, packages etc. But it is not a braille labeller.

A much better option is to pin your favourite applications to the taskbar. In Windows 10 the Windows Key + the correspondin number key is the shortcut to load or jump to that application.

If you type Mail and it comes up just press Shiftv + F10 or the application key if you have one and arrow down to "Pin to Taskbar".

Now go to the Taskbar which can be easily done by pressing Windows Key + T, the first app you land on is the one on the very left and wuold be 1.

If you arrow right you can see what else is there, if you get to Mail after pressing right arrow 3 tims that means it is in position 4. Now you can also rearrange the apps on the taskbar as you like them, if you use Jaws pressJaws JKey + Control + NumPad Slash to start dragging the app you are on, arrow left or right to where you want it and press the same key combination again to drop it there.

Let's say you put Edge or Chrome or whichever browser you use in the first position, the Mail in second, Notepad in third and Excel in fourth.

You can now open or go to any of these applications simply by pressing Windows Key + 1 on the number row for your browser, Windows Key + 2 for Mail, Windows Key + 3 for Notepad and Windowss Jkey + 4 for Excel.

This is much better for your 5 or 6 most used apps than puttin gthem on the desktop where every time you want to get to it you have to press Windows Key + D or M to minimize to the desktop, then arrowing to your application or using first letter navigation to get to it and pressing enter to open it.

This way if you are browsing the web and you hear an email come in all you have to do it press Windows Key + 2 and no matter if Mail is already loaded or not it will open. When you are done and you want to go back to your browsing session you can either press Alt + Tab or press Windows Key + 1.

If when asking a question, one actually took a sentence or two to say what they have done on their own to find the answer, it would help a lot in getting a reasonably good answer and help those of us who try to help know what not to repeat if it has already been tried or searched for.

That to me seems like a damnably reasonable request before anyone tries to help.

Too often questions are thrown out there with no context, so it is easy to think the person has not tried to find anything on their own.

I do not want a big discussion about this, just consider it and those who adopt it, great, and those who don’t, o well.

The internet is a vast and enormous place. It’s high time in 2021 we started using the resources available to us to search for information.

This isn’t preaching, this should be common practice. Ignorance in doing ones own google search at this juncture is simply astounding to me. If a google search does not yield the results, then perhaps a post is warranted. I rarely see ‘I did a google search or searched the archives’ for common questions.

Hi Richard,

I find label printing to be much easier when using a full sheet of Avery labels and Microsoft Word with my Brother DCP-7030 laser printer.  If you place the mailing address in a Word docx file and choose label from the ribbon bar, Word will highlight the address and let you pick from a list of label vendors including Avery. You can select whether you’re printing a full sheet or if not, select the row and column of the label on the sheet to print. It works well and provided you’ve identified the location of the label you’re printing on the sheet and loaded the sheet correctly into your printer’s paper tray, the results are good. I’ve done this with both Word 2019 and Word 2010.

No, it would take a braille embosser to do braille labels.

So these are labels that are about 4 by 5 inches,?  Do you happen to know the label number?  Avery labels all have unique names/numbers so it would be good to know which labels go with that printer, or even the printer model so one could find it if one chose to.
