Hello Kylee,

Don't rely on that keystroke, it has never worked for me in a group email. I definitely suggest you press Alt + 3 on the number row after using it to verify the "To" address.

Hi all

Thanks to Mike and Tom for providing the keystroke I was after. I belong to several Groups.io lists and I've only seen the 'reply to sender' link at the bottom of messages from this list.

Cheers

Try the, Insert, shift + R, keystroke, for replying to sender with the message open.

Well, if the list happens to be hosted by Groups.io you can use the Reply to Sender link at the end of each message to send a private reply (which will be given the subject of Private colon followed by the topic title).  Activating it should fire up a compose window in your default email client.

I just tried this, if the message is not open Jaws just says "Cannot retrieve sender's address" and with the message open it says:

Replying directly to sender
(main@jfw.groups.io via groups.io)

So obvioulsy it is replying to the group just as Control + R does and you either have to use the link at the bottom of the message or go to the "From" field and manually put the Jaws cursor on the address of the person, use the application key and copy it.

If you turn on keyboard help in Jaws and press Jaws Key + Shift + R you get the following explanation:

Shift+JAWSKey+R
Replies directly to sender.

But as Tom said, I have never had any luck of this working in any of the mailing lists I am subscribed to.

Control+r just replies to the group unless the group happens to be set to reply to sender, which very few groups I’ve ever belonged to were set that way.

As Brian says in another message, if it is a group with groups.io, at the bottom of every message is a link to reply to sender, rather than the group.

Otherwise it is a lot of fiddling with the from or reply fields to figure out the person’s direct email.

Hi all

Would someone please refresh my memory of the JAWS keystroke to reply to a list sender only instead of the list. One of the lists to which I belong is somewhat strict about replying off-list when acknowledging emails (to which I happen to agree) but I can't find the relevant keystroke.

What James described with Control + R and Control + Shift + R does not apply to mailing lists. If you get an email where another person was CC'd you can press Control + R to reply to the original sender or Control + Shift + R (Reply All) which will also include anybody else the email was addressed to.

Richard,

Just FYI, the criticism is about the endless repetition of questions that have been asked untold numbers of times in this group, already, as well as having the answers readily available "straight from the horse's mouth" after doing a 2-second web search.

Your formatting these things into a more easily screen-reader-user friendly format is a kindness, and not subject to any criticism from me.

I still decry the fact that on almost every blind-tech related group I frequent that it's considered A-OK by far too many to treat them as their own personal Q&A group for commonly available information.  Messages, including this one, on this group, will land in over one thousand inboxes.  It's actually rude and lazy to ask for any Microsoft Keyboard Shortcuts list by bugging over a thousand people for something one can, and should, locate independently in less time than it takes to send a message.

And I'll get plenty of private messages after this one either agreeing wholeheartedly with me, or calling me "mean" for speaking the plain truth.  I wish those who send me the former would speak up in public, and the latter I ignore.  We're all adults here, and the basic rules of netiquette apply to all of us, and a huge one of those when it comes to a mailing list is not asking "simple questions" that you (the generic you) absolutely know have been answered literally thousands of times on thousands of venues and where finding those answers independently is dirt simple.

And there is one more thing I would like to add. While it is OK to have multiple versions of Jaws on the system, I don't see any reason to keep versions beyond maybe the one previous to the current one and especially not versions like Jaws 18 which don't even fully support the current version of Windows 10 any more. Personally as soon as I am happy with the current build after it comes out I remove the previous version of course leaving shared components, if I ever had any reason to use it then it's a matter of a few minutes to download it (you could even keep the latest installer in your downloads folder) and to reinstall it.

1st here's a link to the Narrator keystrokes / commands:

Personally I've never heard of the error message you received.  Have you tried rebooting  your computer again?  The only thing I can think of that might have happened when removing J18 is that it unauthorized all installed Jaws versions.  When you uninstalled J18 did you happen to uninstall, Shared Components?  If you uninstalled the shared components then I could understand this happening, but since I've never experienced this problem I don't know what sort of message would be received.

Hello, For the last month or so Jaws 2021 has been crashing. FS support has given me many suggestions of how to correct the problem. Nothing works. I mentioned that I have Jaws 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and Jaws18. They told me to uninstall all versions and reinstall Jaws 2021. Yesterday I uninstalled all of Jaws 18. I didn’t uninstall any other versions. I turned on my laptop this morning and Jaws2021 didn’t load. I went into Narrator and the message on the screen said Jaws needs to run with inspect. Therefore I need to contact FS sales. Okay what did I do to cause this problem? Will uninstall all other versions and then reinstalling Jaws2021 work? I tried to do a repair on Jaws 2021 and I got the same message. I hardly use Narrator. Does anyone have short cut keys to use Narrator?

Thanks, Kevin

I would strongly encourage you to follow Dan's advice, load Narrator and uninstall all versions of Jaws and once done go into Apps and Features one last time and check if there is anything left that says "Freedom Scientific". If so remove it as well, then download the latest Jaws 2021 installer and reinstall Jaws. If you are having difficulties and don't have sighted help you could always try Microsoft Accessibility or Aira, I believe Aira has a deal with Jaws to provide help beyond the free 5 minutes, but you would have to confirm with their agent. Both Microsoft Accessibility and Aira have the ability to connect to your computer and help, of course you probably still have to use Narrator to establish the connection.Dan is correct,

Brian, of course, you are correct.

However, having them in an easy to read file with a screen reader is far superior to having to deal with a web site and such when you can simply open a document/spreadsheet and have it for reference while you are using Edge.

Much cleaner and more direct for screen reader users.

I enjoy putting such information into a more user friendly document and making it available so everyone isn’t having to reinvent the wheel.

does anyone know the shortcut keys for Microsoft Edge please, I have pretty much completely moved to using it now.

I Know that ctrl+d adds a shortcut, how do you bring up the list of favorites and also back them up please?

I use jaws with bluetooth on a fairly regular basis, and I'm not having those problems.  Many times I have to hit the play button on my bluetooth headphones after I've turned them on to get all the sound to switch, but once done, it stays right there.  You might want to make sure your sound driver is up to date.

If you go in to JAWS, utilities and sound cards, you can change the device but sometimes the name of the sound device doesn’t seem to relate to the one I would expect e.g. the Realtek Sound device being the laptop internal speakers will send JAWS output to the Bluetooth speaker.

You click on the Bluetooth speaker name and JAWS goes to the internal laptop speakers.

Seems the reply to sender link is only in html messages and not in plain
text messages.
The sender can send messages in html or not or the group is set to send
messages as html or not.

Hi there

I did find a 'reply to sender' link at the end of some emails but it doesn't occur universally.

Well, if the list happens to be hosted by Groups.io you can use the Reply to Sender link at the end of each message to send a private reply (which will be given the subject of Private colon followed by the topic title). Activating it should fire up a compose window in your default email client.

Brilliant, thanks very much for your help.

I Think that it is ctrl+shift+b for the favorites bar that I am looking for.

If you have Microsoft Word there is a table to text function, the Office-Accessibility list is brilliant for things like this.

Hello Albert/all,

I can not answer exactly your question, however I feel somewhat uncomfortable for having seen your information, but I can say it’s pasted and read very comfortably on my display, and no trace of table exists. Apart from wishing to assist you, I confess that my interest concerned the duration of your flight. This I like to compare with similar durations here in Europe and thus get a rather clear idea of distances within US states.

                                                                Hope this helps,

Good morning everyone,

I’m trying too send my sister my flight schedule regarding a delta airline reservation that I made,  where I    will be visiting her in Florida, in  August.  The problem is, that when I copy and paste it into an email, Its all in a table view, and not in a text view which would be easier for her to read. Is there any way that I can take out and convert it in to a text view?  I’ll paste all of this below this message, so that   all of you can view it.
