Appears to be a Microsoft bug..

On another list  I read the below.

I can confirm that Microsoft startI can't tell from your description if this is related, but there is an Outlook issue quickly becoming famous today in which text physically disappears from the screen but is still available to screen readers. The web
version of Outlook is not affected.

Some text I saw from Microsoft on this, though I don't currently have a URL:

Title: Issue affecting viewing email content in Outlook

User Impact: Users may be unable to view email message content within Outlook.

More info: Initial reports indicate that Outlook on the web is unaffected and users with access to Outlook on the web can view email messages there while we work on a solution.

Current status: We're gathering and analyzing data in an effort to isolate the cause of impact. Initial reports indicate
that impact is specific to the Outlook client and users with access to other protocols, such as Outlook on the web or the Outlook mobile app, can view
message content in those platforms as a potential workaround.

 And a little later:
Microsoft  pushing out a fix, but I don't know specifics on how to know if/when it will be or was applied to a machine. Sounds like the fix is moving fast though.

Check in Word, your settings under Options for Show the Start screen when this application starts check box.  You want that not checked.

Press alt+f then t for options and it is on the general tab so just start tabbing to get t to  it.

I don’t know if that is the problem child but it may be.

Another one to check is on the Save category in the options:

ALT+s
Don’t show the Backstage when opening or saving files with keyboard shortcuts check box‑ checked‑ ‑

You want that checked if it isn’t.

 

 

I am using Microsoft 365 so this is all just an educated guess.

Hi Marty,

To read attachments, the JAWS keystroke is insert a. Place yourself on the document you want and hit alt down arrow to pull down the menu of what you can do with the attachment. You can open it, print it, save all attachments and so on.
To read a document in protected view, the standard is to press F6 and arrow down to allow editing and hit enter.

Press alt=+f, then i, then e and enter. Or f6 to get to the status bar, tab to allow editing, and enter.

If you alt-tab away from the document and alt-tab back, JAWS will read it even if it's in protected view.

Hi all,
When I used my Windows 7 computer after I sent a message Jaws would say "message
sent" once it had been sent successfully. Now with my Windows 10 computer I
don't get this message, is there a way for me to get this message again? Using
latest versions of Jaws, Office 365 and Windows 10.

Hello, I’m using most recent versions of Jaws2021, windows10 and Excel 2016. I will be in a cell and and press the Jaws key and up arrow on the key pad. Jaws first says formula bar and whatever is in the cell. Is there a way to stop from Jaws saying formula bar?

I’m a big fan of using software with which I’m already familiar. I’d recommend you create and format your documents to be converted to eBook ePub format with Microsoft Word since it is readily available and commonly used among the community and online support is easy to get. Next, I’d suggest you download the WordToEPUB Microsoft Word addin from the DAISY Consortium at this site:

After you install this addin, a button will be added to your Microsoft Word ribbon bar which will convert the document you’re working with to ePub format.

 

Give this a go and see if it meets your needs.

Still works perfectly fine on both my Windows 10 computers. In my case, I
use the portable version (3.21)that I have saved in my Google Drive account
so I can maintain synchronicity across both machines. How useable/navigable
a book or PDF or document will largely depend on how the document was
created/formatted to begin with. All my Bookshare downloads for example are
in ePub format and while some books are nicely marked up, there are still
some that don’t' have page numbering.
It may be that Acrobat Reader DC works better with PDFs, but I'm still
partial to QRead simply because it can handle all sorts of formats and
minimizes the number of programs I have to use and learn how to use.
It would be nice to have the ability to highlight passages or make notes,
but as others have mentioned, it seems that QRead development has stopped.
Not a deal breaker though. Truthfully, it's pretty complete for what it's
meant for already.
Still a good little ebook reading program in my opinion.

I agree. I think it was $35 when I bought it a few years ago, and I believe
it definitely has been worth the money. At the time I bought it, I think I
was still using Windows 7, and was having more issues reading PDFs than I do
now.

Personally, I have never found a need for more support on this product.

I am glad they developed the product and do not feel that if a developer
moves on to something else, that they started out with the idea to rip off
blind people, as I seem to hear more often than I would like.

The program is out there if people want it as is.
It's a good program, and people have the choice as to whether or not to
purchase it.
I guess he could take it down because he isn't supporting it anymore.

It is not the charge ones are objecting too, it is the non-support and no
updates one gets or in the case of updates, doesn't get that is the
problem. I guess it is the old, "What do you expect for $10?" In these
times, if you charge for an app, you are reasonably expected to provide
updates. Even a low cost app years ago, after a few years, provided an
updated version to keep up with the changing software.

It's still out there. I've never been charged more than once even though I
tried to purchase it for other computers. A message would come up that I
already had a license so could just download it.
But the last time I tried was a couple years ago. I kept the downloaded file
in case I needed it again, but I don't know if it would work again.
But it works fine on my two machines where it is installed.
The person who used to write that program is no longer working on those now
I guess. But the money spent was more than well worth it, and I would have
paid ten times that much for that program gladly.

Q-read? Is it still out there? I thought the developer took their money
years ago and ran. Half grin. Seriously, I got the Q-cast years ago and
after about 2 years of trying to get support with no results or
acknowledgement of my queries , I opted for another program. I never did
use Q-reader as I was told Fire fox was just as good and at least it got
updated regularly. . For all I know the developers of all the Q-programs
are sitting on some island enjoying their monetary gain they got from the
... blind, laughing at them. Just so you know, I'm not the only one who got
