I am able to see downloads after I personalized the list.

I touched the windows key, tabbed once and arrowed down to documents, I used shift+F10, pressed enter on personalize, tabbed over to downloads and pressed space bar to turn back on.

Not sure if this is what you are seeking.

Good evening everyone,

A few days ago, I downloaded some books from Bard    on my girlfriends computer, and now it seems, that when I try to find them in her downloads folder, It isn’t in the start menu of  her computer.  It’s in her file explorer list, but not in the start menu like it was before. What I’d like too know is, has Microsoft changed this option?

Hi Richard,

I've never messed around with these settings since I've never had any problems whith sighted people knowing where I'm at.

Go to Settings Center, Insert + 6, then Settings Center default all applications, Control, shift + D.
Now find the, Visual Tracking, folder #25 of 27 and open this folder.

Down arrow to, Visual Settings, and open this subfolder to see the settings, and let the fun begin!  LOL

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Hi all. After receiving a few confirmations that others of you are experiencing the same chronic misspellings with JAWS and Facebook's Messenger app, both downloaded from Microsoft's store and on Facebook's mobile site, someone suggested what I thought I heard as Google Miranda.
Searches revealed no Google Miranda, but rather an open-source cross-messaging platform that hasn't even reached version 1. I downloaded and installed this thing, but found no special accessible contacts or other accessibility options during the install process.
Furthermore, when I run this Miranda, I only get a combo box for selecting two drivers and a mysterious edit field into which I'm supposed to type some information to create a user profile. Since the edit field has no field data, I haven't a clue what kind of information is required: a username, email address, real name, etc.
Something tells me, this is not the Miranda to which the original poster referred. What gives? If Jed, who I believe sent me down this Miranda rabbit hole, is reading this, please reply either here or privately.
Thanks,

Hi

I believe that setting refers to tracking your location in virtual PC cursor/virtual caret as opposed to showing you the controls you are interacting with. And for resident NVDA users/testers, touch cursor is sort of equivalent to object navigation/review cursor in NVDA, and what NVDA calls “visual highlight” originated from an add-on that was in existence for a number of years (can’t tell you details because it is not the scope of this forum).

Cheers,

Joseph

Hello All,

I was working with a JAWS user remotely this evening and, as is typical, JAWS was not set up by default to highlight on screen the equivalent of where JAWS has focus in the Virtual Cursor.  I went in to Visual settings, but still couldn't make what happens with NVDA's Focus Highlight, or similar, happen in JAWS 2021.

It could be that JAWS must be restarted, but it did not give me any indication of that when I tweaked several settings.  For those of us who have sight, this sort of feature is a godsend when assisting, and particularly if we're doing so remotely and cannot actually hear JAWS at all well during the process.  There's no issue when I'm doing the pointing and clicking, but if I want the person I'm assisting to try something out, it really helps me to be able to see exactly where they are and what has focus.

Any guidance is appreciated.  (And let me tell you hiding these settings under "Utilities" in the JAWS menu structure made no sense to me!)

I don't think that's it. The virtual viewer is different to the
virtual/browse mode cursor. The virtual viewer is invoked when you
virtualise a window or screen.

On the JAWS screen, go into the options/basics menu. There is a setting
"show virtual viewer on screen" which might be what you are looking for.

Good morning Brian,

See if the notes below help:

Tracking JAWS user by sighted onlooker.

FSCast, January 2020. Eric. The two things I want to talk about, first is we’ve redone how we highlight information in HTML. So as you’re reading through
a web page, we always try and put a visual indicator on the page at where you are. So if you’ve got somebody leaning over your shoulder that’s sighted,
looking at your screen, they should be able to keep track of where you’re reading. That’s very helpful, and we’ve been using like a transparent green box
when you’re running with JAWS. in ZoomText and Fusion it would be a red box around the area that’s being read.

ZoomText does a good job with how they track, but of course they’re not tracking with a virtual cursor. JAWS and Fusion have been tracking with a virtual
cursor, and that’s when things can get a little wonky, when you’re arrowing down through a web page. Sometimes the highlight would disappear.  Sometimes
it wouldn’t be quite clear what you’re really reading, considering where the highlight is. that’s greatly improved, and it’s all the same now, whether
you’re running ZoomText, JAWS, or Fusion. It’s the red box.

in the Settings Center there are places where you can make adjustments to it. You can make it bigger, darker, more transparent.  you can change the colors.
You can make it a block that goes over everything, if that’s more helpful. And you’ll see it when you move on to things like a list of items on a web page.
So if you had a list of seven links, when it says “list of seven items,” the box will be around all seven items. as you move into the list, it’ll highlight
each individual item as you move through it.

when you do a “say all,” this box tracks along as you’re reading by word. But when you’re moving with a DOWN ARROW, we try and put the box around the virtual
line or the text contained in the virtual line, which sometimes carries over one or two lines. So sometimes the box is going around several lines of text,
and you’re reading inside that somewhere. But it's a great improvement.

Adrian

To turn on this feature, do the following:
1.  Open JAWS Settings Center using Insert + NumberRow 6.
2.  Press CTRL + Shift + D, to open Default Settings for All Apps.
3.  Type Cursor into the search edit box.
4.  Press the down arrow until you get to Highlight Virtual PC Cursor, and press the Spacebar to check the box.
5.  Press the Tab key twice to the OK button, then press the Spacebar to save changes and exit the dialog.
HTH.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Milton,
Just for clarification, you're suggesting buying a new version of
JFW2021 and going with either the 1, 3, or 5-year subscription option?

Thanks,
Dani

Also your friend has to remember that after the annual subscription expired,

he or she cannot use JAWS without paying for renewal. There are pros and
cons of annual subs versus the SMA. If you still wish to run JAWS without
worring about expired date then go for SMA. But if you are fine to renew
each time then go for annual subs.

Hi,

I'll tell you that the best is to go the Annual Online Renewal and jump
right up to the 2021. If the individual goes with the SMA Service
Maintaineance Agreement he will have to pay for all the years skipped and
that is just not worth it any more for his situation. With the online portal

he can then buy a multiple year subscription for either 1, 2, 3, or 5
years.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Guys.
A friend wants to upgrade from JFW2018 to JFW2021 and asked me about the
different radio button options for payment that came up when he tried to
upgrade. Where should I look on FS/Vespero's website to understand
payment/plan options?

Thanks,
Dani

Hi,
Show virtual buffer is not the same thing as visual tracking, the settings
category Brian is talking about. According to JAWS manual (2021), you must
be running Windows 8.1 or 10 to use this feature, and theoretically you can
configure visual tracking for virtual PC cursor and/or touch cursor. Also,
try with default settings loaded (open Settings Center, then press
Control+Shift+D to select default.jcf (default settings)), then configure
options and restart JAWS.
Cheers,
Joseph

Maybe:

On the JAWS screen, go into the options/basics menu. There is a setting
"show virtual viewer on screen" which might be what you are looking for.

Good luck!
