If you decide to remove the old JAWS programs, do not remove the two items you mentioned.

If you want to remove clutter, just remove the shortcuts on the desktop, and move the start menu shortcuts to a cleaner spot.
Unless your computer is short on space, you have much to gain by leaving them.

Hello,

I have decided since I have not needed to use any of the 3 older versions of Jaws since installing 2021, I would like to tap the wisdom of this list.

There are two items that pop up, Remove Shared Components, and remove User settings.

Will removing both of those impact my Jaws 2021 installation?

I know FS uses shared components a lot, and I also have OpenBook 9 on this machine, so want to tread lightly.

And, in case it comes up, I know it isn’t hurting my computer to leave them, but I want to remove them to reduce clutter.

Thanks,

Richard

You correctly diagnosed my problem.

There indeed was an update waiting to be installed.

Once I took care of the update, all returned to normal, and my laptop now stays asleep when the lid is closed.

I guess we learn something new every day. I just never experienced this behavior before.

Thanks much.

Hello, everyone.

In my 30+ years of working with computers, I have never seen an issue
quite this strange, and am hoping for an explanation or a fix from
some of our list members.

I have my Dell Windows 10 laptop set to go to sleep after I close the lid.

This worked relatively well until recently.

Now, my computer still goes to sleep at the set time after closing the
lid, but wakes up again about 2 minutes later, and then stays on
continually from there.

I have checked my sleep settings, and nothing seems to have been
changed, so far as I can tell. In other words, my sleep settings are
what they always have been.

Has anyone on list experienced this issue; and, if so, what did you
do to address it?

Thank you!

I think I’ll stick with Windows Notepad for basic plain text editing. I think HjPad’s attempts to force rich text formatting is odd but perhaps it considers itself to be a WordPad as opposed to a Notepad substitute.

Actually, it doesn’t give you a chance to name it first, and it defaults to RTF.

I never saved as RTF, but the first time I loaded the program in a long time was yesterday and it just popped up the dialog to choose Word 6.0, RTf, or TXT when I hit control+n to create a new document.

Even picking txt, which I did, when you go to save it, you get a warning that you will lose all formatting if you save in text format, so you have to pick text from that list.

Now, no matter if I do a save as or a straight save, it defaults to rtf.  You have to pick text format.

But, to me that is a small price to pay for a non-bloated text editor with the standard spell check feature.

Then you did not have Notepad++ from the source, https://notepad-plus-plus.org/.  There is absolutely nothing inappropriate nor unusual about their uninstall dialogs.  I get asked if I want to keep my custom settings, and that's it.  It just finishes the uninstall without any fanfare.  (Just uninstalled v7.9.1)

This is a professional grade open-source tool that's been around for ages.  They're not pulling any stunts that would tarnish their reputation at uninstall.

Leo

Hello fellow listers,

Recently, I started editing audio on Audacity from scratch, and even though I had no previous experience using any audio-editing software, I have been able to edit a quite simple and decent piece of promo audio recording for my WhatsApp  group. However, I’ve been trying to figure out how to go to a specific position in the track. I want to be able to go to a specific point in the timeline of the track. Maybe if I explain why I want to do this, someone may give me a hint to put me on the right track on this.

Let’s say I’m editing a selection of the track which starting point is the minute 20 of the track, and the ending  is the minute 21. After I have applied the changes that I want for that specific selection, how I retake the playback exactly after  the mark of the ending point?  In other words, how  I re take the playback in the minute 22 of the track?

I’m using Jaws 2021 and the scripts for audacity, but if it is a way to do it without going through the script functionality, it will be very useful as well.

I won't repeat it here. And, I'm by no means a prude, but it is highly inappropriate .
