No offence taken at all. Yes I do have it added. I can get the keystrokes to work when I’m using NVDA but not with JAWS. Heck, I’m not even sure if my approach is the best way for doing this.

Don,

I don't want what comes next to be taken as snarky, but are you certain you have the Developer Tab/Ribbon showing?  It is not on the Word ribbons by default, as very few typical users use it.  I added it long ago because I create fillable forms and need the legacy controls to do so.

For a laugh I enquired about office 2019 and it directed me to E-bay.  It was an adventure unto itself because I had to tell it to ship to and from Canada.  The hardest part was having to tell it I needed the currency in CAD not British pounds. If I registered would it always be this much trouble?

Understood, I just cannot get any keystroke to work after pressing the alt+l. That I don’t know the cause but I’ve the same problem in JAWS2020 as well. I’m going to give NVDA a shot to see if those keystrokes work, then I can take the next step to diagnose why they would work in one but not the other screen reader. o

Thank you very much. The reason I’m want to use a Radio Button is that I’m creating a survey with the typical “disagree,” “agree,” “strongly agree” ETC. I don’t know anyway to do this other than using Radio Buttons.

Your information has been very helpful in understanding why I could not find what I wanted.

There is no Radio Button option in the Legacy Tools section (which you do reach via ALT+L,N).  The Radio Button is in the ActiveX control section and it is noted as "Option Button" while what most of us would call a button is noted as "Command Button."

The direct key sequence for an ActiveX radio button is ALT+L,N,O (Option button) and for a command button is ALT+L,N,U

I personally hate the ActiveX controls and avoid them, but others love 'em.  All of these announced, item by item, if I right arrow through the Legacy Controls Group then transition into the ActiveX controls group once the end of the Legacy Controls has been passed when I'm using NVDA.

No, this is where JAWS doesn't focus on the link correctly.

If you shift tab, then tab back to the link then press enter, it would work.

All the best

Funny you mention this, as I had this exact problem with a recent e-mail. A
friend sent me several Dropbox links, all of which I could open either by
press enter on the link or using the context menu to open the link. But
there was just one in the whole list which, when I hit enter on the link,
took me to the subject line and when I tried again, looking in the context
menu, I couldn't actually find the option to open the link. As this was just
one of about a dozen links, I assumed the sender hadn't entered the details

Hi all,
I've had an issue on and off that when I click on a link within an email I'm
taken to the subject of the email and not the webpage that the link is for.
This is extremely annoying especially when it happens with verification
emails, is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening in the
future? I've tried changing the format that email messages are displayed in,
but this hasn't made any difference, I know someone told me that when I'm on
a link I can bring up the context menu and get something that says open
hyperlink or something, but I've tried this and have not yet found such an
option. I'm running the latest versions of Jaws, Edge, Office 365 and
Windows 10. Look forward to any help anyone can provide me, everyone's help
is always much appreciated!!!! Thanks Madison

Most of my sighted clients have no idea how to do a restore even if they wanted to, but several have been very, very thankful indeed that they had a backup that they'd taken on a regular cycle when they had storage failure (whether HDD or SSD) but had to have me do the actual restore.  It sure as heck beats losing all the data one acquires over years on most computer systems!

I thought that I had already thanked you and several other listers for this information.  But, I have slept since then.

It is working perfectly for me now.

I really appreciate all of you for this.

It seems like this past few days have been my turn to learn some important things about Outlook and my iPhone.

Just press Control + E from your main Inbox, for me this searches all the folders I have.

Hi,

What if I do not know where the word or phrase is located?

In other words, how do I get outlook to check all places for my phrase or word?

Thank you,

James B

Hi James,

If you are using MS365, then I am assuming the email client is Outlook. To do a find press Control + Shift + F. You will land in a field in which you can type a search term. If that is what you are searching for type the term. Then tab and you will be in a combo box where you can choose the search term to be either located in just the subject or in

both the subject and body of the emails.

If you are looking for email that was sent from or sent to someone, tab passed these fields and you will find fields in which to enter either the from or to names.

After you have entered the search terms you want press enter. When the search is complete you will get the  message “find now.” Once you get that message press F6 and you will be in the list of messages it found.

I hope that helps!

Take care and stay safe!

Debby

Hi Brian and list,

First, let me apologize for being so far behind on reading emails.

Back when I was using Windows Live Mail.  I could search for a particular word in any folder or subfolder by going through the menus/ribbons without any problems.

Now, after using MS365 for around 15 months now, I still can’t figure out how to use the search feature.

I could come up with around 5 or 6 additional problems that I have with MS365 but I don’t want to give myself a headache thinking about them.

I use MS365 because  it is better for me than any thing else that I have tried.  Including Windows mail and Thunderbird and the web mail that Gmail and A T and T offer.

So, I’m not saying that it isn’t the best thing going, but, at least for me, I still can’t do some very basic things like search folders for a certain word or phrase.

For example, the hot key like Control, Shift, A goes in to advanced search.  That works fine for me.  But following the prompts/understanding the menus from that point to find what Iam looking for just isn’t working for me.  I’ve run in to dead ends with other things that were very easy with WLM.

Regards,

James B

James & Alan,

I'm curious to hear some specific examples from you.  I absolutely will not deny the seemingly endless stream of new bells and whistles from Microsoft and others, but with the sole exception of the introduction of the ribbon interface (and even then, only for a subset of commands), I haven't encountered many keyboard shortcuts change at all.  The "old standards" have been the same quite literally for as long as I can remember, and the Windows commands that form the core of many programs (e.g., Save, Save As, the navigation dialog for both, Open, etc.) have been, too.

There is very seldom, in my experience, any shakeup in existing shortcuts secondary to new additions to the UI, whatever those additions may be.  Note well I said seldom, not absolutely never.

Bonanza.com is the place to go.  It is reliable and like Amazon, will intervene with its sellers if there is any delay.  I bought Office 2013 Pro for $35 just last month.  It has the lowest prices I see anywhere on used software.

Which is true of the vast majority of backup/restore software because the restore process takes place without Windows itself actually being running, meaning there is no screen reader support.
