Rick, maybe you can ask Brian for a tutorial on how to send a message directly to a list member rather than to the list in general, but then of course sometimes when this happens one really sees deeper into another person's personality and I must say your insults and petty attitude do not say much about yours.

. You keep going on about how you stand up for all us poor blind people who "need" Brian's help and we are just all afraid to fall in line behind your personal fude with Brian.

I unfortunately have to tell you that you apparently live in a fantasy world, not all of us are needy and put up with Brian's personality because we can't live without his technological expertise. Furthermore and I have pointed this out before, why don't you just ignore Brian's posts if they get you so riled up. Have you ever worked in a company with a number of employees? Have you ever been part of other organisations with a number of members who need to interact and get along with each other? I would assume the answer is no because if you had or were you would know that in almost any large group there will be people who clash because of their personality and if they can't see past their differences and learn to either tolerate or ignore each other, nothing good ever comes of it. The result then is exactly what is happening here, one person starts a smeer campaign against another, that person is joined by one or two others who also feel that way towards the other person but who normally may not act on that themselves and of course the other person may or may not stand up against all the insults and misinformation. In this case there is you, Randy and I believe somebody called Gerald who has voiced some support, then there is Brian and what seems to be a rather large majority of other list members who seem perfectly fine with him and who think your little vandetta is simply over the top.

I have a business and employee only 3 to 5 people but even there I had situations when I hired somebody who just would not get along because of some issue they had. In one case a part-time employee came to me and asked me to basically fire my store manager who has worked for me for 15 years, he is a nice guy and liked by just about all other employees I have had and, what is more, he is liked by a large majority of my customers. But he is not afraid to speak his mind and he doesn't put up with any BS. When I told her I could hardly do this she told me on the spot "well then I'll quit" and that was that, she left and all was back to normal.

I do hope Brian remains steadfast in his willingness to remain a member of this list, he left the Windows 10 group, but I would strongly encourage him to stick it out and from now on to simply ignore your jabs and insults, if you can't learn to tolerate or at least ignore his posts then I suggest that you leave along with all those who you say messaged you privately and start a new Jaws group, if you are the nmoderator you can then indulge your powers and kick anybody off your list if they say something you don't like, but spare the rest of us who simply want to discuss Jaws and who are either here to learn or to help.

Remember Matthew 7:5: Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

This will be my last comment regarding this.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Again, my mistake putting this through the list and not direct to Randy.

Hi Randy,

I’m writing to apologize for my losing my patience with that jerk Brian Vogel again. He attacks blind people and I’ve witnessed this on different groups and what is as disgusting is those who defend him because he is valuable to the group, as they say. He may know about JFW and being he is not blind is what I cannot excuse and stay quiet. He is sighted and attacks those as yourself, blind, because of asking a question or addressing his sighted comments towards some specific topic. He has attacked women who are blind on other groups and I went off on him and he left the group. I really do not know why he is such a follower of the blind but his disrespect is just what I must stand up and fight him and his ways as well as those that defend him just because they need him to continue to help their technological needs. I could go on about that idiot but I’ll go and just want to let you know I was defending you and his attack on you as he does to many on these groups. If we do not put an end to his personal attacks, then who will? I’m sorry if I over-stepped my boundries but just know I was on your side trying to get that jerk to shut up.

Always,

Rick

It is an obvious pattern with you that you believe that just because you are sighted that you have the ability to talk down towards those who do not. For the administrator of this list, please shut this person up now for he has been this way on other lists/grops previously and has for the better, removed himself when those, as myself, step up and no longer will accept his rudeness, discriminative communication and outright condemnation towards those blind. Brian, do us a favor and go start your own list and again remove yourself from this. You again believe you are above those blind and I will not stand for this on this sight no more than I went up against you on the prevous site you removed yourself from. YOu have no ability to be cordial to those whom may not have as much knowledge towards a problem to have it corrected and although you may believe yourself superior, your the most ignorant individual most of us on these list groups have ever encountered. Remove yourself again and do us all a favor. I will not stand for you to be this way towards those in need and more, towards those blind seeking assistance. For the Administrator, I request this person be removed without further delay.

I do not know WinAmp very well, but if the files had been on the c drive before, then the path it is using is probably it looking for them there.
There should be a way within the program to point it to the new location.
Good luck.
I tried the c and d drive setup once, and decided it was not worth the work.

Hi all,

I’m getting along with the search features in Outlook a lot better now.  It feels good to be able to find things once again.  It does look like using the advance search feature will take more practice to memorize the various steps...A lot of options there.

Several different listers got involved withgiving me advice on this one.  Man,I sure have needed it for a long time.

Here's more on the search to top it up.

If you did look at the advance search as we spoken, you can find a few things.

1. There's a search area which you tab once you hit ctrl - shift -f and tell where the search to find, default is subject field only, there's a few more like, subject field and message body and last is frequently used text field.

The above is what most or at least half of the users will use most of the time

2. You can even bring down more specific search, like  From, Send to, , time. I am yet to talk about more option which can select things like important, flag etc.

Trust me, if you can't remember the first choice I mentioned above, then the more option will not be much use. Play with it and you will get the driff of all the search function we all mention on this list.

If you don't know where they are, find the your pst or  outlook data file. Make sure you select the parent all the way at the top.

tab again and select sub folder or something like that

It will now select all your folders within the outlook data file.

hit enter or tab to ok

Thats where you can now search for all folders for that particular email or items you are after.

Follow the previous email list member instruction and search for the item.

To browse on the result if or if you have not, hit f6

That will bring your focus  to it.

I know its a lot of to remember but once you do it often or do it a fewtimes, you know how to do it.

If I am in my main Inbox and press Control + E and then search for any search term it looks in all the folders I have, if I want to limit the search to a particular folder I just go to that folder first, then press Control + E and type in my word or search term followed by pressing enter.

Hi James,

If you are using MS365, then I am assuming the email client is Outlook. To do a find press Control + Shift + F. You will land in a field in which you can type a search term. If that is what you are searching for type the term. Then tab and you will be in a combo box where you can choose the search term to be either located in just the subject or in

both the subject and body of the emails.

If you are looking for email that was sent from or sent to someone, tab passed these fields and you will find fields in which to enter either the from or to names.

After you have entered the search terms you want press enter. When the search is complete you will get the  message “find now.” Once you get that message press F6 and you will be in the list of messages it found.

I hope that helps!

Take care and stay safe!

Hi Brian and list,

First, let me apologize for being so far behind on reading emails.

Back when I was using Windows Live Mail.  I could search for a particular word in any folder or subfolder by going through the menus/ribbons without any problems.

Now, after using MS365 for around 15 months now, I still can’t figure out how to use the search feature.

I could come up with around 5 or 6 additional problems that I have with MS365 but I don’t want to give myself a headache thinking about them.

I use MS365 because  it is better for me than any thing else that I have tried.  Including Windows mail and Thunderbird and the web mail that Gmail and A T and T offer.

So, I’m not saying that it isn’t the best thing going, but, at least for me, I still can’t do some very basic things like search folders for a certain word or phrase.

For example, the hot key like Control, Shift, A goes in to advanced search.  That works fine for me.  But following the prompts/understanding the menus from that point to find what Iam looking for just isn’t working for me.  I’ve run in to dead ends with other things that were very easy with WLM.

James & Alan,

I'm curious to hear some specific examples from you.  I absolutely will not deny the seemingly endless stream of new bells and whistles from Microsoft and others, but with the sole exception of the introduction of the ribbon interface (and even then, only for a subset of commands), I haven't encountered many keyboard shortcuts change at all.  The "old standards" have been the same quite literally for as long as I can remember, and the Windows commands that form the core of many programs (e.g., Save, Save As, the navigation dialog for both, Open, etc.) have been, too.

There is very seldom, in my experience, any shakeup in existing shortcuts secondary to new additions to the UI, whatever those additions may be.  Note well I said seldom, not absolutely never.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the reply and the confirmation. I’ll sort out how to contact Microsoft Accessibility in order to report this. I surely can’t believe this behavior is by design. And also thanks for telling me about the first letter navigation. I expect I’ll normally be searching for Contacts when not searching for the Messages default and tapping the c key as you suggested gets me there.

Alan,

I am getting the same peculiar behavior with that dropdown box as you are and using NVDA.  What I have noticed that ALT+K, followed by the first letter of the item you want to search, works to set it.  You do have to do this twice if you want to look in Appointments as there is an All category that will come with the first letter A.  Here are the dropdown box options:

Any type of Outlook item

Appointments and Meetings

Contacts

Files (Outlook/Exchange)

Journal Entries

Messages [default at initial opening]

Notes

Tasks

Another thing I'm noticing, and it's not 100% consistent, is sometimes after you do an ALT+K, letter combination the Advanced Find box disappears from focus and visual view, but it is not actually closed.  You need to bring it back up via ALT+TAB.

Both of these things seem to be Outlook bugs and you may want to get Microsoft Accessibility involved and demo them for them so they can see it actually happening.

Hi, Madison. I usually use CONTROL plus F5, because that keystroke refreshes
from the server rather than refreshing from the cache. If you refresh from
the server, and something about the page has changed, that way is more
reliable. If you just want to refresh from the cache, you can use either
CONTROL plus R, or just F5.

OK, I tried unloading and loading JAWS, and that seems to have done the trick. It is strange though because I have never had this happen before.

Subject: Suddenly, JAWS isn't reading any of my menus

Hi All,

To my knowledge, I did not do the most recent JAWS update. I was just working away on my Dell laptop, and all of a sudden, during the process of copying some files from my downloads folder, JAWS stopped reading my menus. It reads everything in Outlook, but no file names of folders in my documents or downloads. It isn’t reading anything on the task bar, and it doesn’t even read when I scroll through the window list when I hit shift F 10.

I am running JAWS 2021 and Windows 10. I haven’t shut down in case that does something I can’t undo.

Thanks so much,

Cynthia

You would hit alt - b and browser to the right place and hit space bar to check.

I have been using Outlook for  a long long time.

The Control with E is working for me.

I still do not know what I was doing wrong with the advance search but I just did around 5 searches and my words and phrases came right up.

Control + Shift + F gets you the Advanced Find dialgue, I find most of the time a simple search which you get with Control + E works for me.

Debby

Regards,

James B
