Latest JAWS update causing all grammatical, spelling errors to be announced
Lindy <lulu58@...>
Hello Today I installed JAWS 2021.2103.174. I am using Microsoft Office 2010 on my Windows 10 desktop PC. Since this, I am getting all sorts of feedback on my Word files including grammatical and spelling errors plus word counts and other extra unwanted information. I went into the settings centre for , text processing and proofing but was totally confounded by the options although I did alter Word classic to Word only, without any change. Any help would be appreciated as I am not a “power” user.
Kind regards
Lindy

Hi Richard,
When you said you unchecked the setting in the
default settings, were you referring to, Settings Center, default all
applications? If so, you would think that would cover, All
Applications! Oh well, givethe quick settings a try or the Settings Center
only for each application. Settings Center keystroke, Insert / Jaws key +
6, on the number row is 1 way of getting there.
Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi, Richard,
do not check the setting in the default config. Instead, open every browser you're using and do it there. Application settings beat default settings, so whenever you're changing something and there is a particular setting that differs within a given application, that one will be used instead of the default you set. Try opening, Quick Settings, Insert / Jaws key

this setting there as well.

Is there another setting related to this buried somewhere else?

All I know is that I’ve found Brian’s contributions and knowledge about computing in general impressive enough to where I’ve personally contracted him to do some scripting work for my business. To have someone who not only knows their way around the more nuanced aspect of technology (I certainly don’t know how to code or script) and is also very familiar with assistive technology and in particular screen readers is a valuable resource to have. There have maybe been one or two times where I’ve disagreed with him related to a list issue, but so what. Let’s not all drown in a glass of water. These are just mailing lists after all. Step away from the keyboard. Read a book. Get some sun. Enjoy a nice cup of coffee or music. And yes, Google is indeed sometimes your friend.

Ricky, you should keep your facts straight, Brian recently decided to unsubscribe from the Windows 10 list and the majority of list members felt this was a great loss. You seem to be on a personal mission to convince others that just because you don't like his approach nobody should. Interestingly enough once again the majority of people on the Windows 10 list didn't seem to have a big problem with his messages, Brian can be very direct and he may question why somebody asks a question for which it is extremely easy to find an answer and he is definitely correct in saying that there are a few individuals who are just too lazy to take notes and hence ask the same simple things over and over or they ask because they don't want to go out of their comfort zone and try to look up how to do something by looking it up online. If you like I could send you instructions on how to set up a filter so all Brian's emails go to your trash folder and this way you don't need to experience high blood pressure or waste time to bad mouth him everytime he writes something you don't like. I by the way am also completely blind, but if you can't accept the fact that not everybody has your personality then maybe you are the one who should start your own list because as other spointed out, most of us are not offended.

Jaws and the Win 10 Calculator
Richard Turner <richardturner42@...>
I started a new thread to deal with this. I had the issue in previous builds of Jaws where the Win 10 calculator didn’t work right. I did the nuclear option discussed before of deleting the settings in the enu folder, which did fix the issue but caused many more.
Fortunately, this minor April update did not have any ill effects on the calculator for me. There wasn’t any issue of needing to migrate settings.
I am hoping those having the issue can resolve it without blowing out all their settings.

I had an issue with the calculator not working
correctly. It was caused by corrupted migration from previous version. Here are
the steps to fix the problem if your problem is caused by the same
issue. here is what we did. 1. Go to JAWS Insert + J 2. Go to the Utilities option 3. Right arrow to expand. 4. Down arrow to Explore Utilities folder and press Enter. 5. Down arrow to Explore My Settings and press Enter 6.Press Insert + T you should hear Enu. 7. If this is true then do Ctrl + A to select all. 8. Press Delete then Enter 9. Close JAWS and Relaunch JAWS. 10. After relaunching JAWS when asked if you want to migrate user settings tab to no and press Enter. 11. Let us know if you still have problems. I think what is happening is we are migrating corruption and this will allow us to start over with default settings. Regards, Bill have si

You will have a few boxes, the main two you want are whose email address you want to share it with, if you want them to have full editing rights, etc., and a message box to tell them anything you think they need to know, and tab to send and hit enter. It’s done.

I will correct you for I had many individuals email me off list saying it was better that person was gone. Do not think it is ok for your having some knowledge to attack, abuse and ridicule those who come to these lists for help, not to be condemned for seeking the assistance of which these groups are first and for. As I said before and I will hold on firmly, if you want to be part of a group that is willing to treat those within as he does then go and form your own narcissistic group where it will be expected to be treated as Brian continuously treats others. This is unaccepable no matter what anyone knows. He is on these sites for some unknown reason and if it is to simply brag on what is known then move onto your own list. Otherwise, do not defend the abuser no matter how you all feel he helps you. Do not afford yourself to be a defendant of the obviously guilt ridden abuser.

The point is simple, I am and he has attacked individuals on other lists previously. Who cares what he knows. I will not accept his rudeness, attacks etc. towards any blind person no matter their knowledge. He has no right to do this and has been forced off of other groups due to his total lack of respect for anyone. No, you do not know this person and he surely should be removed from tjhis list, no matter what he believes he knows or otherwise. Do not defend those obviously guilty and if you believe you need to, then as I told him, go start your own group list for rude people and go attack one another. He went after Randy and I have no idea how you do not see this.

Rick, your message seems quite over-the-top. I am blind and certainly am not offended by Brian’s comments. As for Randy’s messages, they seem to follow a pattern of his persistent criticism of Brian and I can’t wonder that Brian is fed up with them. Brian responds frequently to questions on this list and is generous with his time. We are blind. It doesn’t give us the mandate to trash others mindlessly with rants.

Brian,
It is an obvious pattern with you that you believe that just because you are sighted that you have the ability to talk down towards those who do not. For the administrator of this list, please shut this person up now for he has been this way on other lists/grops previously and has for the better, removed himself when those, as myself, step up and no longer will accept his rudeness, discriminative communication and outright condemnation towards those blind. Brian, do us a favor and go start your own list and again remove yourself from this. You again believe you are above those blind and I will not stand for this on this sight no more than I went up against you on the prevous site you removed yourself from. YOu have no ability to be cordial to those whom may not have as much knowledge towards a problem to have it corrected and although you may believe yourself superior, your the most ignorant individual most of us on these list groups have ever encountered. Remove yourself again and do us all a favor. I will not stand for you to be this way towards those in need and more, towards those blind seeking assistance. For the Administrator, I request this person be removed without further delay.
