Hi Klaus,

I'm not Bill but, use the right arrow to open when a folder says, Closed, and use left arrow to Close when a folder is, Open.

In all actuality the Text Processing folder doesn't need to be opened.

Just down arrow to, Speech Verboscity, and right arrow to open.

Then, down arrow to, Open Configure Verbocity levels, right arrow to open, and follow the rest of Bill's steps.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

Hello Bill,

me too followed your steps to benefit from less verbosity.

When I reach step: "5. text processing" I am not able to open it.

I try: Enter or spacebar or spacebar and downarrow

but I am always thrown out of the settings page back to desktop.

I had worked with "insert + #6" before but now I am lost.

Any ideas? Latest windows home and Jaws is installed.

Hi, Pat. As far as turning off JAWS verbalizing how many items in a folder or on the desktop,

1. If you want to turn off this behavior for all folders and the desktop,

2. Press JAWS key plus the number six on the numbers row.

3. Press CONTROL plus SHIFT plus D to load the Default JAWS configuration file.

4. If you only want to turn off JAWS verbalizing how many items for the current application, skip step 3.

5. Open Text Processing.

6. Open Speech Verbocity.

7. Open Configure Verbocity levels.

8. Press SPACE on Beginner level.

9. Arrow down to Position Information, and uncheck it.

10. TAB to OK, and press SPACE.

11. TAB to Apply, and press SPACE.

12. TAB to OK, and press SPACE.

13. Now JAWS should no longer verbalize the number of items in folders or the desktop.

Subject: jaws 2021 sound and speech problems.

Hi,

The subject of this email is probably not worded right.

I have had to completely reset my del pc, because of sound card problems.

Since fully reinstalling windows, my sound card is speaking like it has a throat problem!!

I have tried using the windows default, and the realtec speakers.

Anyway, there is no difference.

The sound card looks like it is changing, but there is no difference in the actual sound.

Two days of resetting the pc!!!

Anyway to get to my point:

When I am moving through items in a folder, jaws is saying “1 of 5” or “2 of 5” etc.

Is there some way to turn this off?

I know I asked this before, but I can’t find my own topics.

On this, when I log into the group via the web, can anyone tell me, how to get a list of my own topics?

I can’t seem to find it under my account or something like that.

How can I start a topic online?

Any ideas about the sound cards?

If it makes any difference, jaws wants to add a configuration for “shcore” when I run the settings centre.

I have learned, that this is some sort of “dll” file in windows 10, although why it is using my desktop is a mistery.

Sorry if this is rambling.

Have a good one and stay safe,

Pat

Hi,

The sound card sounds like it has a sore throat, for want of a better explanation.

No matter what card I select, the result is the same.

Anyway, I think I am going to have to get an engineer out to look at the machine.

Now, adobe dc reader is not scrolling, the web browsers are reading things that are not on screen etc.

I did a complete reinstall of windows on Saturday, but the problems have gotten progressively worse in the last two days.

I am beginning to think, that the mother board is damaged.

The machine is unger warranty with del, so hopefully, they will send someone out, or replace the machine.

Thanks for your help.

Pat

Can you better describe your voice issues?

There is some sound card drivers that turn off sound on a regular basis. This causes JAWS to not speak the beginning of each phrase. There was an option in JAWS 2020/2021 to correct this. You need to open up JAWS settings center to the default set and find a setting about sound in there. Let us know if that is not your issue, or if you can't find the setting with my vague description.

Hi Phillip,

Jason described you how to deal with Word documents using the revision feature of Word.

If you don't have turned on this feature you could use s script language to assist you, for example Word's own macro language VBA or JAWS scripts itself. If you want I can try to help you writing some script to assist you. If you want you can write me a personal message and we check out what's possible. The kind of script depends on your needs: Do you want do compare two paragraphs and get noticed if the content is different? Do you want to know if formatting changes (for example if in one paragraph a word is bold and in the other document not)?

All the best

The only thing I can think to do is turn on my proof reading settings and go back and fourth through the documents one line at a time. Does anyone have any better ideas?

The option described in this article may be what you need.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/combine-document-revisions-f8f07f09-4461-4376-b041-89ad67412cfe

I haven’t tried it, but if you can combine the two versions of the document into a single document with change tracking, you can then make decisions about the changes in the usual manner – using the JAWS features for dealing with tracked changes.

Hi, Guys.
It looks like something isn't loading all the way. I had to uninstall
JFW2021 and reload it in order to see the full menu. I rechecked the box for JFW to run in the sys tray.

When I sign in and things initially load, the JFW icon doesn't show up in the system tray. I have to reload the program for the icon to show up. I think it was a fluke that I figured that out.

I'm now trying to get my BrailleEdge to work with this version. I installed the drivers but am not getting it to connect via USB.
Restarting the program, and restarting the system, does nothing.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dani

Hi Sarah,

oh, what a pitty. Okay, so let's try to figure out what it could be by answering a few questions:

You said it's the same system on both machines, right? If yes, is the Edge version the same on both machines, I mean on both machines is Edge Chromium, not the classical Edge?

Next questions: does this happen on the site your mentioned only? What about buttons on different sites, were they read properly?

Does this includes other control types as well, for example links, lists, edits or does JAWS only have problems with buttons?

Does your fellow tester have JAWS scripts installed?

Is the window maximized?

What about other screenreaders, does NVDA or Narrator reading the buttons properly?

All the best

the first thing I would check is to deactivating settings by using the alternate user mode. In German keyboard layout the hot key is JAWS+Space, then pressing Z. This turns this mode on. To turn the mode of press the same hot key again. Perhaps in English keyboard layout there's another hot key, I don't know this. This sets the settings to default values so you can find out if a setting causes this problem.

Good luck

Hi all,

I did an accessibility test on the webmail client RoundCube and found something quite interesting. To my knowledge RoundCube is up to date; I’m running all the latest versions of Jaws, MS Edge and Windows. I’m able to see all the buttons on the page and when I list links I get all of my email messages. My testing partner is running jaws 2020.2012 and the latest versions of Windows and Edge, he cannot see the buttons, jaws only reports “button”. Our jaws graphic settings are set the same, to “labeled graphics”.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you,

Moderated Comparing 2 word documents

I need to compare 2 documents for differences. I am grading one of the Word documents against the other one. These are not short documents. They are approximately 45 pages long.

I know how to proof read, and I have my own speech settings for it that work well for me. However, in this case I will be comparing 2 different documents. The only thing I can think to do is turn on my proof reading settings and go back and fourth through the documents one line at a time. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Okay, a couple of things. I had been using a Surface Book with Face ID for a couple of years. I had some trouble with it depending on sun glasses, angle of the screen, etc. I recently got a computer with a fingerprint reader and I like it much better. Something that helps with both of them is to go into settings after the computer is scanned up and do another setup of your finger or your face while using a better screen reader than narrator.

To the original poster, what was the problem with narrator and the fingerprint reader. I have set up windows multiple times with a fingerprint reader and it will always say to lift my finger and to place it back down. Then it will tell me to move my finger around while lifting it and placing it.

Hi, Dani. This is a known issue stemming from the fact that you are probably using the $90 per year license, rather than the $160 SMA (Software Maintenance Agreement) that was so popular for years. There is something about these $90 per year licenses that is causing them to load incompletely as you said. The only way around it is to unload JAWS and immediately reload JAWS. This will also happen if you reboot or restart your computer.

Subject: More on JFW2021 Woes

Hi, Guys.
It looks like something isn't loading all the way. I had to uninstall
JFW2021 and reload it in order to see the full menu. I rechecked the
box for JFW to run in the sys tray.

When I sign in and things initially load, the JFW icon doesn't show up
in the system tray. I have to reload the program for the icon to show
up. I think it was a fluke that I figured that out.

I'm now trying to get my BrailleEdge to work with this version. I
installed the drivers but am not getting it to connect via USB.
Restarting the program, and restarting the system, does nothing.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Dani
