Brian,
Thank you so much for all of your assistance and for recommending this app.  I hit a couple of minor hiccups but everything is working as advertised.  I did see the note below on their page, and I may be forced to use the people app anyhow in the coming months.

We need your help to migrate our code from the Contacts API to the new People API. The Google Contacts API is now deprecated and is scheduled for sunset on June 15, 2021.

Regards,
Jim

By the way, if you go to https://myaccount.google.com/security once you are logged in to your account there is a section on that page entitled Third-Party Apps with Account Access.  If your GO Contact Sync Mod install went without a hitch, it should show up there.  The last time I actually installed that utility I was forced to go through Google's OAUTH setup to allow it to get to my Contacts to begin with.  Also, make sure that within GO Contact Sync Mod that you have automatic sync set up for whatever interval you prefer and that it is set to start with Windows.  It's a utility that has to run in the background, with it's icon showing up in the system tray (usually in the overflow area accessed via the notification chevron) if you want it to be constantly monitoring changes.

Depending on what contacts you may or may not have manually created in Outlook, you may also need to tweak the settings in GO Contact Sync Mod to decide "which side wins" in the event of a duplicate or whether the two sides should be merged together.

Ok, I’ve removed newer messages to this so sorry. This is a follow up to the issue I had before and I think I’ve found what was causing the problem. I think this is an issue that anyone who’s using Nvidia drivers is going to have unless you uninstall G-force experience. Once I did that, my problem was solved. If you uninstall it, you’ll need to manually update the drivers but that’s about it. It may help with video games but I’ve seen on forums that people don’t want that software installed anyway so it’s really a matter of if you think it’s needed or not. I hope this helps  anyone who has the same issue.

Hello. I seem to be having a problem with the system tray dialog in jaws 2021. When I press insert f11 I do get the list of items but when I press enter on one of them, the system right clicks somewhere on the desktop instead of the system trey and the item I have selected. It’s as if I’m right clicking on an empty spot on the desktop instead of the item I’m wanting to right click on in the system tray. Has anyone had this issue? If so, how was it fixed or could it be fixed. Thanks.

Hi,

I would uninstall JAWS, then reinstall it. You don’t need to remove your settings.

Hi Mike.  Thanks for sending along the link.  Unfortunately I get the same results after downloading it from the web site.  I’ll be calling Vispero in the morning.  Here’s hoping they can fix my Jaws issue.  I’ve done both from updating it and then just downloading it from the site with the same error message.

Hi, Addison. After you take the steps Brian suggested, what I do is, after logging into a site, press F6 (Function Key 6 on your computer. This brings up the save password dialog for me in Chrome and Edge. Then, if I am not focused on the "save" button, I can TAB or SHIFT plus TAB to the button, and press ENTER. This saves my password, if, indeed, the password can be saved. Some sites don't allow saving of passwords.

Hi, Zel. I don't think it is your computer specs. That being said, there is no JAWS 19. They stopped designating JAWS versions with two-digit version numbers with JAWS 18. The next JAWS version was JAWS 2019. We are now at JAWS 2021. Have you tried installing JAWS 2021 in demo mode, and checking if JAWS still crashes in your large documents. With all the changes made to Windows 10 in the last two years, as well as the changes to Office, it would not surprise me if portions of it are far enough out of date that JAWS might crash while running Office, especially if it is Office 365. My recommendation to you is to try JAWS 2021, even if you don't have a licence for it. That way, you can rule out an out-of-date version of JAWS being responsible for the problem you are having.

Hello all,

I have big documents with tables to write in and checkboxes to tick. When I’m working in these files, Jaws really slows down and often crashes.

It doesn’t matter what computer I use, I still have the same problem. I have an HP Pro with Intel Core i7 8650U, 8GB DDR4-RAM, 512GB SSD, Radeon RX540 2GB Graphics, 14" Full HD Display,

I’m using Jaws 19.

Does anyone else experience this?

If so, how do you get around it?

If not, is this a problem with my Jaws or computer specs?

I look forward to hearing from you and take this opportunity to wish you all a good weekend.

List Rules

When:
Thursday, 1 April 2021
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-04:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

As an aside, this should not be necessary for Office 365, as it should be doing regular, cyclic checks for updates on its own.  It's "Office as a Service" much like Windows 10 is Windows as a Service.

Thank you, Paul, for your keen insights on Vanguard. Even though they
compete against me professionally, I've always respected Vanguard as a
solid company that tries to treat their clients right. They made a
big deal of keeping expenses low long before most other investment
firms were even thinking about it. I'm glad to know Vanguard executed
their customer-centered focus by putting in practice a learned
approach to accessibility.

OK, first some truth in advertising; I am in the financial planning
and money management business. So I have tech preferences and
regulations for what I do that retail investors do not have. Over the
last few years, I have used in my business a tech platform called
Wealthscape which is very serviceable for trading investments and
moving cash. I don't think those outside the industry would have
access to the Wealthscape brand, but my point is that it is developed
by Fidelity. So to some extent I use Fidelity-branded securities
trading platforms on a daily basis and have found this one to be
fairly accessible. It's not perfect, but functionality has gotten
appreciably better with JAWS 2021 and Windows 10.

My other positive Fidelity experience came 10-15 years ago, when two
different clients allowed me to serve as a third-party agent so I had
the authority to adjust their 401(k) plan, which Fidelity had official
custody of. I had no problem reallocating mutual fund positions, or
even buying stocks, on my clients' behalf using the Fidelity platform,
even though Fidelity was not native to any other part of my day-to-day
work. My point is that it felt very natural to use that particular
version of Fidelity's retail platform back in the 2005-2010 period, as
it took me no time at all to train myself on where to find things on
the screen, etc.

Take my observations for what they are worth. I have no idea how good
the Fidelity interface is in 2021 re accessibility.

I will follow this thread with great interest.

Kind regards,

-Kane

I will say this, and say it only once:  It is a gross disservice to any user transitioning to a brand new platform to encourage them to use software that is out of support.  It's just bad practice to use out of support software, period.  And how much you like it is not relevant.

Thunderbird is a wonderful email client, fully accessible and fully in support, that runs fine under Windows 10.  The Windows 10 Mail App is also accessible and more than adequate if you don't have need for what I'll call a "feature rich" email client.

I don't know of a single email program that doesn't have an import/export feature related to contacts.  But in this day and age, if you're transitioning from a client that maintained its contacts strictly locally and within itself, you should establish an account that has IMAP access and to which email, contacts, and calendar can be synchronized across devices and even different email clients.

Hello Listers,

Some months ago someone posted a question on this list asking of any available JAWS-accessible investment firms. I didn’t reply at the time, but a recent contact with the firm I use prompted me to mention it here. I’m well into my retirement years now, and have used Vanguard ever since it was offered as a 401K plan by my employer many years ago. For a long time I managed my Vanguard assets by myself, but eventually signed up with a Vanguard personal advisor. I informed him that the asset mix page on my web site account was not being spoken by JAWS. He told me to contact Vanguard’s Accessibility Department and state the problem. I did so, they ran JAWS to identify the problem for themselves, and fixed it. I’m very satisfied with Vanguard.

Hi.

The instructions that were given aren't for Outlook. I can't remember how to do it, but there's something in Outlook itself to check for updates. I'd like that information as well.

press windows+i.
tab once, arrow to and spacebar on Update and security.
tab once and windows update should already be selected, if not, press spacebar to select it.
from here, just tab until you find a check for updates button.

however, you can create a check for updates shortcut on the desktop

press windows+m to get to the desktop.
press control+space to unselect the item you maybe on.
press the application key or shift+f10.
up arrow to and right arrow on the new submenu.
arrow down to and enter on shortcut.
paste the following as the location to open:

ms-settings:windowsupdate

press enter, type a more descriptive name such as check for windows updates and press enter.

the advantage here is that the checking is automatic. just wait to find out if any updates show up.
