Or you can try to access the link from the Jaws Key + F7 list box, either way, changing the way the message is displayed won't help you here, in fact, if you copy the entire message and paste it into Notepad the link is no longer something you can click on, you would then have to copy the link, open your web browser, go into the address bar and paste it in. brin

Hi again, Madison. May I ask you a question?

Why do you want to change the view or format of the html messages? are they being displayed as tables? if so, the following may be of interest to you.

If Emails Read As Tables

1. Open Outlook.
2. Press JAWS key plus six on the numbers row for JAWS Settings.
3. Arrow down to Web / HTML / PDFs, and Right Arrow to open.
4. Arrow down to Reading, and Right Arrow to open.
5. Arrow down to Web Verbosity Level, Medium.
6. Arrow down to Configure Web Verbosity Levels, Right Arrow to open.
7. Arrow down to medium... and press SPACE BAR to open configuration.
8. Arrow down to Table Or Grid and make sure it is unchecked. (It is easier to press the END key and Arrow up to Table Or Grid.

moderated Help to set up calendar reminders in Outlook

Jeff Lukacsena

Hello List,

I have a quick question.

I’m using Jaws 2021 on a Linovo laptop running Windows 10.

I am using Outlook.

I want to set up a meeting reminder for a group of people.

I have a Zoom Link to share in the e-mail.

I need to make sure that this reminder goes out the second and fourth Friday of the month.

How can I set this up?

Thanks,

Jeff Lukacsena

That is not the Calibre file, it is the interface to help the accessibility with a screen reader, specifically Jaws.

You have to install Calibre from their site and then you have to tell the ebook program where the Calibre executable is located.

There is a browse button to locate Calibre in the program when you run it.

Even though I accepted all the defaults when I installed Calibre, I still had to tell the program where it was, because the program is defaulting to the wrong location.

Yes,  For around $12 on Amazon, you can get a little USB dongle that has a microphone and headphone jack.  Just plug it into any USB port then after it installs, press JAWS key + J to get to the JAWS context menu.  Down Arrow to the Utilities Sub menu, Right Arrow and Down Arrow to Sound Cards Sub Menu.  Right arrow and Down Arrow to the new sound card and hit Enter to select it as your new JAWS sound card.  Be sure that you plug in an ear bud or head phones to the correct jack on the dongle, because  as soon as you hit enter on the sound card, JAWS will instantly switch to this device and stop coming through your speakers.  Now, you will only hear your windows sounds and Zoom participants in your speakers and only you will hear JAWS in your ear.  To adjust the volume of JAWS, you will need to go to the Windows Mixer.

This is poor design of the message itself, I am not sure Jaws could do
much about it -- do other screen readers do the same thing? I have
seen this myself on messages from certain companies.

Hi again, Madison. May I ask you a question?

Why do you want to change the view or format of the html messages? are they
being displayed as tables? if so, the following may be of interest to you.

(It is easier to
press the END key and Arrow up to Table Or Grid.
9. TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

Hi all,
How and where do I go to check and possibly change the format that received
messages are displayed in (plain text, html etc) using Outlook? I went into mail
options, but all I found was to change the format that messages are sent in
which isn't what I want. I'm using the latest versions of Office 365, Windows 10
and Jaws. Hope someone can help me!!!! Thanks

Okay, I like that.

I knew I'd heard of some way of doing that?

So with the usb adapter, JaWS can't be heard by my zoom folks?  It can only be heard by me?

You could use a USB sound card adapter to run JAWS through.  You can also set up Zoom to be on mute until you need to speak then press the Space bar to speak and release to be muted.  Just use JAWS when you are muted.

What do I have to buy in order to use jaws and zoom on my pc without people hearing jaws?

I'd like to use jaws without earphones and have people not hear jaws.

Thanks,

Is there a way to use an ear bud or to buy a splitter where I can just plug an earbud in to the splitter and have the jaws and zoom separate.  I am aware of the customer service headphones, but can we do that without having to buy the those earphones?

Hi, I just mute myself unless I need to say something. Normally when I unmute I press the control key straight away to stop Jaws from saying anything. I have been on meetings with others who have screen readers and it isn’t a big issue. The screen reader just reads out what is coming through on the Zoom window. If you want to look something up on your computer while in the meeting then make sure your muted and it will be fine. I regularly have Zoom meetings with both blind and sighted people and none of the sighted people have complained about the screen readers because it isn’t that much so is over in a second or two.

Hello,

I am a very regular user of zoom, though for social calls rather than
podcasting and the likes. These calls last on average about 8 hours,
so I would prefer to find a way to avoid having to use headphones for
such a large period of time and have tried everything imaginable. The
issue with the space bar is that jaws does have a habit of telling you
interesting pieces of info that you are definitely interested in, like
repeated announcements that somebody has low network bandwidth and you
end up sharing that with the group. I've tried directional mics
however if I'm using my laptop at ehe same time it becomes pretty bad
for posture. I really don't think what you are asking for is possible
without the use of headphones, if it is I'd also be glad to use it.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance,
- James

Imo it's not really ideal for every day teleconferencing/compuer use. Maybe
if you are doing semi-pro recordings; podcasts or whatever.

Maybe there are super-directional microphones? That way you aim the mic at
yourself but the speakers simply aren't in the cone?

Hi

We use Salesforce as our database through work as I think a number of blindness agencies around the world do. In our case it works better with Chrome and I think our IT people do some internal adjusting and scripting for Jaws but it works pretty well.
Cheers

Hi,

I've used sales force in the past with jaws and not had any problems, its worth being aware though this was probably about 3 or 4 years ago so not sure if accessibility has changed much since then. I might be wrong but I think companies can customise Sales force and what features there users get , so I'm not sure if there are features we didn't use that might not be as accessible, but what I did use seemed pretty accessible when I used it with my last company. I believe it is accessed through the web, so a web application. I've had normally pretty good accessibility when working with these types of systems since you can use all the built in jaws navigation keys to quickly get around, I always find placing jaws markers in all the places I need to access hugely speeds my ability to navigate the software whilst speaking with customers. hope that helps slightly.

Yes. Virtually most everything is accessible except designing form layouts where you have to drag one field to another. for that, I have used sighted assistance.
