Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask something so basic, but Microsoft did something overnight and now I cannot open files, including the file that contains the saved phone number for the disability hotline. Will someone please post it?

In case anyone on this list knows the answer to my problem, I’ll post it here:

This morning, every word file I tried to open first gave me the message, office Updating, please wait. Then, I got the message  WinWord error, cannot launch.

I need my documents ASAP.

Thank you for any help—especially with the phone number of Microsoft accessibility line.

Hope your day is going well.

If you want to send a given e-mail as high importance, once you create the e-mail, stay in the body of the e-mail, and hit alt H followed by another H.

This should put that e-mail at a high importance level.

After the e-mail is sent, Outlook should edefault back to the normal importance level.

Hi Rick,

First, did you go to the address bar and take out the WWW and replace it with mbasic

?

The mbasic page is much easier to use.

You just do alt D and press home, and right arrow past the WWW and back space it out and replace it with mbasic and press enter.

My preferred method is to hit alt enter, which opens a small dialog box of message options. You are immediately placed in a combo box for message priority, Arrowing down once gies you high priority, then you just hit enter and it’s all done.  If you tab, you can get to options for marking the message as private, requestin a read receipt and a couple other things I never use.

I’m not sure about a keystroke for just that one property. But do alt P O P and look in that dialog box. You will be amazed at what is in there.

Hello,

I am having an issue with the JAWS Voice Assistant. I had turned it off at some point and now I can’t seem to get it to work again. When I try and enable the Voice Assistant JAWS says: “The Voice Assistant has encountered a problem.” I have done a JAWS repair to no avail and I have uninstalled JAWS 2021 and then re-installed it and still I get the same message when trying to enable the Voice Assistant. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

Thank You,

I have tried to label buttons on a web media player for a radio station listen live using the Insert + F2 and arrowing down to Custom Label.  I am using JAWS 21 latest build and Windows 7 and Google Chrome.  The buttons work and read correctly until I close the page.  When I come back the next day, the buttons are back to just saying Button when I navigate to them.  Why don’t my labels stick?

Hi Dave,

Here are 2 sets of steps:

From: Carlos
Place focus on the link or button to which you want to assign a label, press Insert+F2, and select
"Custom Label" from the list.
This has been in JAWS going back at least several versions.  These are different features for doing similar things.  The "Prompt Creator" and "Graphics
Labeler" are used for labeling controls and graphics in applications.  The "Custom Label" option is used for labeling HTML elements like buttons and links
on webpages.
Carlos

From: Mauricio Molina
When on the Internet, once you locate a button without a label, press JAWS / Insert Key, Control, + Tab.  You will then be asked to type in a label.

Hello everyone:

The other day, I accessed a web site, which on the whole, was very
accessible.

Unfortunately, there were 2 problems. the first, was the link, which took
you to the shopping basket page. This link had no text lable, to tell a user
of a screen reader the purpose of the link. The link is a standard HTML
coded link.

the second is a standard HTML button, which also does not have a text label.
This button is for removing an item from the shopping basket.

My question is, is there a way within JAWS, where you can attach labels to
specific links and buttons on an individual web site?

The link and button on this web site are not graphics

Thanks in anticipation.

The only thing I would advise is that, when you download Adobe Reader, unless you explicitly want any of the bundled software, uncheck the following items before downloading,

install the free McAfee Security Scan Plus utility to check the status of my PC security. It will not modify existing antivirus program or PC settings.

install McAfee Safe Connect to keep my online activities and personal info private and secure with a single tap.

Install the Acrobat Reader Chrome Extension By checking the above, I agree to the automatic installation of updates for Acrobat Reader Chrome Extension

Another way is to press F12 to save the document. You will get a message that says this is a protected document. Tab once to the button that asks if you want to unprotect the file. Hit the spacebar and you are ready to go.

Then, I'd save it.
