Here is the way to do this with Jaws.

Select the text you want to highlight in yellow.

Then tap the following three keys speparately, alt, h, i.

The default highlight is Yellow so just hit enter.

Now, because it is a visual thing, Jaws will not report the highlight color, at least, I have not found a way to get Jaws to say squat about the highlight.

To remove the highlight, you simply repeat the steps above.  It is a toggle.

My sighted wife help me figure this out.

Loreal,

Since highlighting is a visual thing, and may not serve a screenreader purpose, the answer may not be forthcoming from this list, and a web search might prove more fruitful for you.

There may be a way to specifically highlight something permanently as such, but would it work for you to select the text you want, and go into font settings and change the color there?

You can also perform a control tab and select the trash folder.  Once there, hit the application key and down arrow to the empty  folder option and hit the enter key.  This will confirm that you are deleting everything in the trash folder.

List,

When in Outlook 365 and in the list of emails in my Trash Folder, I often select all and permanently delete them.  One problem, when I use the Control plus A command to select all, JAWS does not speak anything to let me know they are selected.  I have enough residual vision to see that they are selected but I would certainly feel better if JAWS reinforced this.  I should say that I am using the latest 2021 release of JAWS and Windows 10.

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

Mark

thank you very much for telling me the correct names.

@All:
I've put the script together with the "Read Me" file into a cloud storage. You can download both files there. Please let me know if something isn't clear so I can change this. The cloud storage is located in Switzerland so I don't know if the text will be in English. If you have trouble downloading please let me know and I mail the source code of the script in this list. Sometimes mailing source code is leading to trouble because mail clients sometimes combine two lines of text into one single line. This leads to compiler error messages so I prefer to give you the whole file to download.

Hi, going strictly by memory, these steps may help you in emptying your trash folder-

First hit F6 until you get to where Jaws says Mail.

Then in this order press the following keys: Alt f, i and t.  Then your should hear Jaws say something like Mail clean-up.  Next, down arrow once to where Jaws says ‘Empty Trash’ I believe.  Then press Enter.  It will ask you if you want to delete all items.  Press Yes.  Lastly, press F6 until you get to the inbox.

I hope this helps.

Same here.  I can't think of a single context under Windows where a Select All is possible where CTRL+A doesn't do just that.

While I agree that it's nice to have the screen reader feedback, and I'd report an issue if it were not giving it in a specific context where it should, I'd still presume a CTRL+A will have done a select all where that's possible.

Subject: Selecting All Question

Mark

I am using 2019 and Windows 10.

Control a says “selected all” and then starts reading all the file names, so it sounds like a setting got changed.

That’s true.

I personally just assume control+a always selects all.

You may want to contact tech support directly about this since while they may monitor this list, it helps to contact them directly to make sure they hear you.
