Many thanks for this. I will check it out. You may be right and it might already be enabled, and like you, I don’t know why in Zoom I don’t get the sound when looking for the password editfield. Alison

Alison, it sounds like you may have sounds mode activated already. I'm not sure why it's inconsistent in Zoom though. However, the way I do it is open the JAWS setting centre, then search for Forms Mode Sounds. Then F6 to settings pane, then tab to the Enable Sound Notifications checkbox. Select it. Once it's selected, two buttons become available immediately following it. The first is to select the sound for entering forms mode. The second is for selecting the sound for when leaving forms mode. Activating the buttons will cause a dialog with list view of sounds to appear, along with 4 buttons, including a play button and browse button if you want to add your own sound effect.

no problem, I will support a download link soon and writing a "read me" file with installation instructions. Meanwhile can someone please help me out? I'm not using the English version of JAWS. I can change the language in JAWS and getting the English names of menus and controls but if I select the "Utilities" entry in menu bar and the "Explore Utilities Folder" JAWS will open an Explorer window with file links. This file links are not in English and I don't know the exact name of a particular file link opening the settings folder. It must be something similar to "Explore my settings". Can someone please tell me the exact name so I can write it down in the "Read me" file? And for my records there is a file link also leading to script folder, I think it must be something similar to "Explore my scripts". Can someone please tell me the exact name as well? Thanks in advance Udo

Hi Udo, if you would share the script and how to install it, that would be greatly appreciate. I think it would be fine to share on this list. Scripts are part of enhancing the JAWS experience.

I’d like to know how to enable sounds for forms mode please. Jaws often does make a sound when I enter an edit field, but not always, for example, the editfield in Zoom so I never now whether I can type in the password or not. Alison

If you assign sounds for when forms mode opens and closes this will tell you. This can be done in the Settings Center. If you need steps just let the list know.

Hi Mark,
As far as I know there's no shortcut to detect forms mode. But it's no problem to write a script doing this job.
If you are interested in this script let me know and I'll share this in this list and describe how to install.
Best wishes Udo

you can also try all tab in case it's open the link in a new tab. And also fire fox isn't necessarily the greatest anymore. I would try the new Microsoft edge or chrome or brave anything but firefox. basically any other chromium-based browser.

Color Pickinc Again...!
Mike B.
Hi All,
Running Windows 7 and Word 2016. Just
got on my wife's laptop to update and run security scan... and I noticed that
her Word colors are set to black on black. I don't know how this has
changed since my wife only does emailing on this computer when we travel to our
other house.
When I open the font color dialogue it's set
on automatic but, I guess that only means that the font is black, so how do I
get it to have a white background with black font?
I have arrowed around and do find white but,
if I select it I then have white font on a black background. All help
is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.
Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Pam,
My Windows Mail closes frequently as well. At least it has stopped disappearing from my desktop. I used to have to go to Recycle Bin and bring it back often.

I have also had Outlook closing seemingly spontaneously off and on for a while now. Luckily, this is not happening often. I have also seen occasions where JAWS reads the wrong thing when arrowing down the list of messages, so I end up deleting something I didn’t intend to delete.

I’ve had a number of issues with Outlook suddenly closing, but it’s been happening for me for a few months. Sometimes it seems to get stuck before this happens and other times it happens so quickly that I’ve wondered what key I could have hit accidentally. I also recently got an Office update and have had a couple focus issues in my inbox after deleting a message, so it’s possible your issue is tied to something like that. I’m still on the original release of JAWS 2021. Just feels like Outlook is very touchy nowadays. Where I used to see Outlook hang on a process, now it just closes. Sometimes it reopens automatically, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Hello, I use windows10, Outlook 2016 most recent versions and Jaws2021 updated yesterday. Since I did the Jaws2021 update, Outlook will close by itself when I’m arrowing down the list of emails. Or it will hesitate and emails I had just deleted return. Has anyone encountered this problem? Thanks, Kevin This communication may contain privileged and/or confidential information. I'd be interested to see the script. email me off list if other members object as this is not the list for scripting in JAWS.

Re: customizing JAWS announcements

Hi Shai,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
If you follow Leo's solution this will change the speaking of all keys you change in this dialog. But if you only want to mute speaking of Control+N in outlook and Windows+D for activating the desktop you need a script. I made a script that works like this: Shortcut assigned to scripts won't be spoken by JAWS. So I assign one of your shortcuts to my script. In doing this JAWS will run my script every time you use this shortcut and won't speak the shortcut. In my script there's a single line passing the shortcut pressed to the app. So for example if you press Windows+D my script will pass this on to activate the desktop but since the script has a shortcut JAWS will not speak this. If you are interested I can mail the script either here in this list or to your personal address and describing how to install. But you should know there's no easy way of installing scripts and you have to manually edit files. Let me know if you're interested. Best wishes Udo
