Kevin Minor

Hi.

Something happened where things got corrupted so badly on my SSD, that nothing was there, Even Windows. I did have a backup, but some things weren’t there, including Silenzio. JAWS method of trying to prevent the beginning of words being cut off doesn’t work well on this Asus Zenbook Laptop. Silenzio works much better. I’ve looked on Google, with no luck. I’d appreciate learning where to get it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That's why mario was able to send the same message using both email

Yes, I guess I thought whomever was running the JFW group was going to shut it down, and then along came the Main@ group.
That is why I only send new messages I create to the Main@ group and probably reply to the JFW@ group without paying attention that it is a different group.

F9 always is what worked for me to enter reader view in Firefox. It still
works now.

It's necessary for people to understand the other side when it comes to ad
blockers, browser ad filtering, etc.
The creators of websites, and providers of information thereon, make most of
their money from ad revenue -- therefore even though the experience of an
adless internet life is pleasant for us (and I use uBlock Origin myself),
the object of content providers is going to be finding cleverer and better
ways of making sure we do see the ads, moving forward. So some of these
solutions may not work always and forever.

Once upon a time, control+alt+r in Firefox would put it in reader view that
tried to do that.
I've pretty much been using Edge for a couple of years, so I do not know if
that works now.

I use the Jaws marking the start of a section I want to copy, go to the end,
use the select between marked place and current location and copy.
Then, I paste into a text editor like NoteTab Pro and edit out the junk.
Set mark is control+windows+k.
At the end, insert+space, then m, then control c to copy.

uBlock Origin and uBlock Origin Extra are excellent ad blocking (among a
couple of other things) tools for Chromium-based browsers that need them.

There are also a number of browsers, e.g., Brave and Vivaldi, that have
heavy duty ad blocking and privacy measures built in to the browser.
Both of those happen to be Chromium-based, but I believe there are a
couple that are Firefox-based as well.

Well, nothing is going to get them all, because most add-ons are looking
for things that don't come from the website your reading, and some will
host ads natively.  I've been using adblockplus for years on any browser
I can.  It stops a lot of them, especially if you set it to show no
ads.  You may have to turn it off, unfortunately, to view the pages on
some websites.  I keep edge without an ad blocker, and then if I need to
read a site that won't let me I just bring it up in edge.

moderated Re: jaws 2021 problems.

Hopefully you were able to run the technical support tool so Jaws can in fact try and get a better handle on this, after all, if it affects so few people those who are affected need to do their part.

Of course unloading and reloading Jaws is a work-around which doesn't require you to go out of your way that much, another one might be to run Narrator when Windows starts, i.e. at the logon screen, and to see if that fixes the issue.

A few years ago one of my 4 computers at my store (it was an identical model to one of my others) would not let me read the Windows Start menu with Jaws, nor Settings or any Windows apps like Calculator. If I went into settings Jaws would just be absolutely silent, visually I could move through the categories and if I arrowed right, for example, 3 times and pressed enter Network and Internet would open, but as I said, Jaws would not make a peep.

This went on for over a year and any time I had to do anything in Settings on that computer I had to unload Jaws and use Narrator. Then at one point I read something on a list, can't remember which one, where somebody had this issue and they had figured out the solution. The problem was that for some reason a setting in Group Policy Editor (this was a Windows pro version) had been changed. It took me all of 20 seconds to change it back and from then on all was well, Jaws read everything fine again. I may have made a note somewhere what this was, but I can't remember now and don't feel like digging around to look it up, but this goes to show how one small little setting can make a huge difference and cause a pretty major headache for a very small number of people.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hi Mike,

Sorry, it was the original topic.

When jaws starts up, you cannot get at the menus.

You have to unload and reload it.

When jaws is set to start at the logon screen and to start for this user, insert+j or any other key is not available to get at the menus.

When you unload and reload it, it works just fine.

When I started the topic, I had a huge rant about it!!

You will see it from the start.

It doesn’t happen to everyone, in fact, I have only found two other people that it happens to.

Nevertheless, it is a bug, and should be fixed, given the amount of money we pay for the product.

As you can see from my previous post, this has been confirmed by Vispero.

Regards and stay safe,

Pat

Hello Patrick,
I find what you have discovered about this issue very intresting.
Would it be possible for you to run the technical support tool under the Jaws help menu in order to send us a report so that we can look in to this further?
This is not the first time I have seen the issue. I actually experience it myself.

This is most likely an accident of history, where scripts were written for Symphony and as that software morphed to OpenOffice and LibreOffice there was no real need to rename the scripts.

See this Wikipedia page for how IBM Symphony became Open Office.  Libre Office is a fork of Open Office and is currently much better supported.
