Which is great, if what's being used is a repeated character set.

Believe it or not, I'm not questioning your choice, as what any given one of us wants/likes will differ.  I'm just pointing out that how this is actually implemented "under the hood" matters as far as what's exposed to the screen reader to read.

I also have absolute trust that when a given feature is turned on, and I'm using it, and all evidence is that it's working, that it is indeed working.  There are many times that I have no desire to have anything announced, because it's auditory clutter.  It's just a difference of desired behavior.

Yes.

WinKey+PrtSc takes a snapshot of your entire screen (so make sure the web browser is maximized if you want only that - and it will include the tabs open in a given browser window across the top so if you really want only that website, open it in its own browser window before taking the snapshot).

You will find the resulting screen shot in your Pictures library, Screenshots folder, with a name of the format Screenshot(Number).png.  The numbers start with one, and keep incrementing as you take screen shots.  If you delete all the existing screenshots, the numbering will begin with one again.

You can set JAWS to speak only three repeated characters, no matter how many there are, so you wouldn't have to hear all of them.

In word 2016 I have set tab stops for a table of
contents--6 inches, right aligned, .... as the leader. When I fill in

there are no little dot dot dots between the title and the beautifully

The number of flight tracking options, and what they track, is myriad:  https://duckduckgo.com/?q=UA+3442+flight+information

Better to find the website(s) that track what it is you're looking for, and use them.

I also have acquired my licenses for Office 2016 and one for Windows 10 Pro on the grey market.  Once you step out of buying direct from Microsoft or a well-known reseller of Microsoft license keys (like the ones you can get at Best Buy, Walmart, etc.) you have absolutely no way of knowing whether what you're purchasing is a legitimate license or not.  I have had any number over the years that would not work and where the seller was banned from eBay before I could even complain.  But at the prices available for grey market keys, it would take a very long time before I came anywhere close to paying what a brand new license costs.

As far as legitimacy, once I've presented a license key to the entity that controls the licenses, and it is activated by them, it's legitimate as far as I'm concerned.  They are the ones who hold the ability to either accept, or reject, a key.  They also are the "keepers of the databases" that should tell them if a given key is OK for activation/reactivation or not.  If they activate, who am I to argue?

I cannot find anywhere on the ms web site that might sell it either, as they just want you to buy the latest.

Hi Patrick,
I use an older version of Office than you do, for the same reasons.
My Jaws 2019 has challenges with spreadsheets.
So what works for me is to have Jaws 16 installed, and I unload the newer Jaws and use the 16 version.
I also have libra office installed, but sometimes I like using the familiar Office.

Hi, Alison. If you're using Google Chrome, do the following.

1. Open Chrome.

2. Press ALT plus F, followed by the letter S for Settings.

3. In the list of settings categories, press ENTER on Advanced.

4. Once Advanced is open, TAB to the button which says, Ask where to save each file before downloading Toggle button‑

5. Make sure this button does not say Toggle Button Pressed.

6. Once you do this, your downloads will always go to the Downloads folder, without you having to press anything to save them.

I will write to you privately to give you my telephone number, in case you live in the United States, and wish me to help you in finding and correcting this problem.

I hope I may be able to help you.

I find the part I wish to download and hit enter on the download link.

I am then told by my computer to go to f6 in order to download the file and with a lot of tabbing, it is there that I find the open or dave option.

If I hit save, the item goes into my Downloads folder.

If I don’t hit f6, I just get some sort of temporary file with a mix of letters and numbers in my Download Folder.

But I am pretty sure that there is something I can do which means that when I hit the “download”, link, the item will automatically go into my downloads folder without me needing to go through f6.

I too don’t understand what Alice’s problem is.  When I download something it goes straight into my downloads folder.  If incomplete, I hear …part.  Which tells me the file is not completely downloaded and in truth, I closed it before the entire file was downloaded.  Thus I just delete that file and download it again.  Sorry, Alice.  For the record I’ve never used the F6 function to go into my downloads folder although it does tell me to view downloaded items go to F6.

Hello Allison

Ok, something doesn’t make sense here. A temporary file in your downloads folder? That usually only happens if you have downloads that are incomplete. Browsers generally don’t remove anything otherwise. If a download is in progress you will sometimes see two or more “parts” of that file, which are then copied into the proper filespace/name once the download is finished, deleting the temporary parts. Otherwise, you should have no temporary files in your downloads folder, and they should not be deleted.

What is it you are actually doing once you press f6? I mean what’s the next step you take? Are you getting a prompt that says that has buttons for you to activate? I have not actually seen that, if so, but it may have to do with my settings.

What browser are you using?

Files are automatically placed in whatever folder you have set as your downloads folder in your browser. F6 just takes you to the downloads payne where you can 8view* your files – f6 doesn’t actually do anything, per se, just places your focus on the downloads area.

Are you looking to either see what folder your downloads are going to in-browser? Do you want to change it? Do you want a prompt, or no prompt?

All this is stuff you configure in settings of your browser of choice. Of course there are default settings – I cannot remember what those are as I am always fiddling with stuff. Right now Chrome just downloads when I activate a download link or button; no prompt or anything. I think I have Firefox set to be a bit more “prompty”. Often though what I’ll do in either is open the context menu for a link, press k, and enter in a filename from  there when the usual ‘save as” dialogue box pops up.  You can enter a full path there too, so there’s never any doubt or question as to where your files are going.

What I want is to hit the download link and have the item go directly to my Downloads folder without any other interaction. At the moment, unless I go through the f6 option and select download, all I get is a temporary file in my downloads folder.

A while ago someone mentioned how to download and the item would automatically be placed in your downloads folder without having to go through the f6 procedure. Could someone please remind me how this is done.

And, whilst on this topic, do we no longer use alt n to access the save or open options?

Hi to you all,

This is probably not for here, but i thought i would ask anyway.

I am at home, so a basic version of office does me fine.

I only use outlook for emails, word for basic documents and excel for basic spreadsheets.

I have been using office 2007, and it does me just fine.

However, as expected, eventually, jaws is having trouble with this because it is so old.

Does anyone know where i could get maybe office 2010 2013 etc?

I don’t need the latest office 365 or anything like that.

I cannot find anywhere on the ms web site that might sell it either, as they just want you to buy the latest.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Patrick

Thanks for this. I really believe that JAWS used to read the leader ... probably in Word 2002. shows how long it has been since I tried this.
With too little vision to check for dots, I would stinkin' like to be told if they are there.

Not sure if your table of contents is the same formatting, but hoepufly this helps. I did nothing to customize it from that first option on the Table of Contents creation button.

In word 2016 I have set tab stops for a table of contents--6 inches, right aligned, .... as the leader. When I fill in information the titles align correctly, the page numbers align, but there are no little dot dot dots between the title and the beautifully aligned page number. Does JAWS just not display the leader? do I need to do something funky with the Word 2016 settings besides selecting the leader?

Thx,

Ann
