What are the specs of the computer?

My impression is that they use lower end processors and RAM, so it could be it is being overloaded.

I’d remove anything you are not using, especially anything that loads on start-up.

If it is the issue of the processor and RAM, reinstalling Windows won’t help.

Subject: ASSISTANCE NEEDED: MY COMPUTER QUITS TALKING IMMEDIATELY AFTER I OPEN OUTLOOK?

Hi,

My computer, which I obtained from Computers for the blind, has a very weird issue, where as soon as I open outlook, Jaws2021 (latest build) quits talking, until I Alt+tab away from the window, and come back.

I tried a reinstall of jaws, to no avail.

I was working in edge earlier, and that was enough to get my fans going a very high speed.

This happens more often than it should.

I’m going to contact them tomorrow, to get permission from Computers for the blind, and if they say, “yes,” I’ll do a complete reinstall of windows.

The computer comes with programs I’ve never even used, & jaws is still being finicky even after a clean install of it.

Please advise on next steps, if you think a reimage is to drastic.

Thanks,

Jessica Dail

The entire purpose of OneDrive just as is the case with Dropbox is to upload all your files to the cloud so you can access them from multiple devices.

Whether all your files are also stored as a local copy on your computer depends on a setting in OneDrive. If you go to OneDrive Settings and to the "Settings" tab, you find the following after about 5 tabs:

Files On-Demand, Save space and download files as you use them

This I sa checkbox, if it is checked the files on demand setting is turned on which means files are kept in the cloud until you use them. I prefer to have a complete copy of all my files on my laptop as well as on my work computer so I uncheck this setting and this means all files are downloaded to the computer and then are kept in sync, e.g. if I add a file on my laptop and then go to work, this file will also be synced/downloaded to my work computer. If I open a particular file like an Excel spreadsheet and make changes at work and I then go home and open the file on my laptop these changes will be refelected there. It's basiclaly like using Gmail with IMAP or Outlook.com with Exchange where all your email is kept on the server, but also synced to each device where you set up the account. The nice thing with such cloud services is that if I keep all my documents in OneDrive, i.e. if I change the location of the Documents folder from c:\users\Your User Account\Documents to c:\users\your user account\OneDrive\Documents and I buy a new computer, all I have to do is sign in with my Microsoft Id when I set up the new computer and all the documents then appear, I think the Files on demand settings is the default, however, so I would have to uncheck this on a new computer if I want the files to download there as well.

You can also change the location of the Pictures folder and under the Backup tab in OneDrive settings you can also enable your desktop and while this may not be new, you can actually enable backing up your Documents and Pictures folder there so you probably wouldn't even have to change the location any more.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hello, to my fellow jaws user subscribers.

I just had to have my pc’s hard drive formatted, so I’m starting back from scratch.

I’m currently using NVDA because I went out to FS’s web page and the good news is that I was able to find the down load folder, but the bad news is that nowhere on the web page can I find a link to down load jaws 2021.

Can anyone help me out here?

I’ve been to software and to products and to down load with no luck.

I found the sales pitch on the new features of 2021, but no link to click on to down load the program to install it.

Also, I’m using outlook 2019 for my mail package.

Can anyone help me to change the date and time from the twelve hour civilian time to the twenty-four hour military time?

I know, I still need to add a tag line to my mail as well.

But I’ll get to that soon.

Many thanks for the help.

I do not know of any password manager that allows the export (or import) of data from another, and that includes those in web browsers.

You'd have to unencrypt the contents to allow that transfer across managers, and for security reasons that's just not done.

The download for the latest JAWS installer is always on the download page for same, and it's no different now.  Download page:  https://support.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS
Specific download link on that page:
Date and time changes in terms of format are a Windows level function.  Settings, Time & Language, Region Pane, Change data formats link then, in the dialog that comes up, look at the long and short time dropdowns.  The versions of time that don't have an AM or PM after them in those lists are 24-hour format, either with or without leading zero for the hours earlier than 10.

On a IPhone the time it takes to correct a message often out ways the effect it will have on the communication. I just don't have the time to go through and retype all the dictation errors in a message. I will if it makes the message unreadable or it is a professional communication.

Hi Jim,

I have this same issue when working with any of the chromium browsers when

activating buttons or links! Why in the hell are the chromium browsers so
slow to respond to screen reader programs keystrokes?! It's very irritating

just sitting there waiting for a audio confirmation for a screen refresh and

being uneasy about refreshing manually! I'm referring to just browser use
and not anything to do with email issues. If anyone has any helpful tips
for this irritating issue as well, please suggest some setting changes that

might help with this problem. Thanks much.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Subject: replying to a gmail message using html view

Hello Everyone,

When I reply to an email using gmail html view with microsoft edge or
any other browser I must hit f5 before I can work with the web page
again.

any suggestions to resolve this, it is annoying.

1 open gmail and click on a email to reply to
2. go down to the quick reply and enter text in the edit field and hit
the send button

At this point I can not do anything with the page until I press f5.

This even happens if I use default settings in jaws

Is anybody no if you can say hey Sharky when you're writing a reply to an email and she will insert the text of what you said into an email?

Dictation is never perfect, but I find it amazingly useful especially if I am just replying to a text message with a brief message of my own. It is everybody's responsibility to check what SIRI or whichever device or assistant you are using is writing and to correct mistakes, embarrassing or not. The email signatures I sometimes see about that dictation was used and to excuse any mistakes are a pet peeve of mine, there is no reason why you can't check your dictation results and correct any mistakes.

I did not know it even existed. I tend to stay away from voice assistive things if at all possible. I've had some interesting experiences with the dictate function on my iPhone as in saying , "Thrift store. " It came out something entirely different which is not suitable for this list. I've never enabled "sharky" So, don't understand Madison why it would be turned on in the first place on your computer.

Subject: voice assistant question

Hi all,
On the topic of the Jaws voice assistant, can anyone tell me how to get rid of it or turn it off? I tried going into utilities and I thought I'd turned it off, but it would seem not, as it still goes off even though I've never said any wake word to it ever. It's annoying and I'd like to have it turned off permanently if at all possible. I'm running the latest build of Jaws 2021 and Windows 10 2004.
Thanks
Madison
