Re: voice assistant question
David Diamond
I agree. 98% of the time the dictate function gets what I am trying to say. Yes, it is ultimately the responsibility of the sender to make sure what is being sent is what one is truly saying with no grammatical or spelling mistakes. I find the dictate function invaluable when I need to check the weather or some such thing. If it is sunny currently but there is a chance of rain, I do not want to be caught on a mountain trail during a down poor. Dogs by enlarge don't care if they get wet, I don't want to be drenched just because I was too lazy to check the weather.

I have never changed the defaults, and any time I open a document in Google Docs (regardless of the specific type, docx, xlsx, etc.) that gets opened in its own tab (or window, if you have your browser set up to use new windows instead). Just closing the tab with CTRL+W throws me right back to the Google Drive tab to look for the next thing. Mind you, if you open multiple documents the Google Drive tab will be several steps to the left of where you are, and if you don't close all the things you've opened you'll need to navigate back there manually.

Hi- I’m sure this is very simple and obvious but I cann’t figure out how to close a Google Doc while staying in Drive. For instance, I go to my Drive, open a Google Doc, read it and want to close it and go to another Google Doc on my Drive.
Instructions would be greatly appreciated!

The problem occurs whether or not you get the message. Sometimes JAWS loses focus and just stops speaking. Then after I tab away and back to current window JAWS works again.

Interesting. I wonder if this has anything to do with a verbosity setting. I have never gotten a lost focus message, but I've always tried to reduce unnecessary verbiage from jaws whenever I found a way.

Re: Jaws scripts for QuickBooks
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
I wonder how long QuickBooks will continue to offer their desktop version since they really push QuickBooks Online. I don't know about the pricing of the desktop version, but I assume that in addition to the initial purchase price you still would also have some sort of annual cost. I now subscribed to the QuickBooks Online Plus plan which here in Canada ist $50 a month, but as a member of the Canadian Fedderation of Independent Business I get a 20% discount, so I am paying $40/month or $480 a year which is actually I think about the same or a bit less than I used to pay for the Sage 50 annual plan which gave me access to their yearly release version as well as bad technical support which I never used. For many people the Essential subscription which here in Canada is $35 a month or even the Simple Start which is $20 a month probabably is enough, but for my retail business QuickBooks will be integrated with my point of sale system and if you want QuickBooks to handle inventory you need the Plus version. I believe when I once inquired years ago the scripts were $750, add to this the cost of QuickBooks desktop and potentially an annual upgrade/maintenance plan and the subscription for the online version sounds pretty good. Of coruse there is also the benefit of being able to use the very accessible iOS app and to use it wherever you are and not just one your computer.
Best regards, Sieghard

I strongly advise you to just pay for those scripts from My Blind Spot. Without them there is no way to run that program accessibly. Trust me, you will be bumbling about in the dark with nowhere to turn. You cant beat their customer support either.

Hi Al,
Are you running Windows 7 or 10? The Voice Asisstant won't show in Windows 7 since it's not availble for Windows 7.
For your Focus problem, try opening quick settings with, Jaws key + V, and type, focus, in the search field. When the results populate you should have 1 result, Focus loss announcement, make sure this is unchecked.

I hope someone can answer about removing updates, but I am doubtful that can be done. You can run the .exe file that you used to install Jaws 2021 and you will have an option to repair.
For me, the first item under Utilities is the voice assistant. Are you sure you are on 2021?
I thought there was an option about the lost focus messages, but Im not finding it right now.

I‘ve used the newest versions of convenient OCR often and haven’t found a way to send the text to any program other than Word. If you want to place the text in Wordpad, Notepad or anywhere in particular, your best bet is to select all the text with ctrl+a, copy it to the clipboard and paste it where you want it. Hope that helps. Tom

hell are the chromium browsers so slow to respond to screen reader programs
keystrokes?! It's very irritating just sitting there waiting for a audio
