Hi Tom,

If you're not running Windows 10 you won't get the Voice Asisstant option.  If you're running Windows 7 the Voice Asisstant isn't available.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

I hope someone can answer about removing updates, but I am doubtful that can be done.

You can run the .exe file that you used to install Jaws 2021 and you will have an option to repair.

For me, the first item under Utilities is the voice assistant.

Are you sure you are on 2021?

I thought there was an option about the lost focus messages, but I’m not finding it right now.

Good afternoon everyone,

First, how would I go about doing a repair of Jaws 2021,  and can you remove a specific  update.  ,  I’m asking because whenever my computer boots up, I keep getting a lot of lost focus messages. Next, after I type whatever the subject line and tab to the edit field,  it indicates a dash

Second, In the settings menu under the utilities option,  there isn’t anything about  enabling the  voice assistant.

Thanks in advance

What I find interesting about this is that I turned it off, yet, it still shows up under utilities with all of the features grayed out other than settings and getting started.

But, I do have a microphone on this laptop, so maybe that is the issue?

do you have a microphone on your computer or laptop or one that you can plug-in? If you don't have a microphone maybe it doesn't show up. This is just guessing though. As for removing an update you can't do that the download you have to get from freedom scientific is already updated. If you have an old EXC you can use that and not update but short of that no you can't remove an update.

Be sure you have pressed alt-ctrl-z to turn on accessibility. In
accessibility settings, turn on Braille even if you don't have a
Braille display. At 10:22 PM 2/3/2021, you wrote:
Dear Listers:

I am trying to read a document from my church that was sent in
Googledocs, but I am finding that when I read it I can only do so
line-by-line, meaning I have to press the Down Arrow key after every
line. The JAWS Say All command will not work. Is there a way using
JAWS that I can read something in Googledocs straight through, as if
I were using the Say All command in other documents?

hi group this is paul. i have a question. is cisco packet tracer accessible with either fusion or jaws. i am taking classes at northshore technical community college. i am specifically wanting to know if there are any scripts for this program. i am taking the ccna certified cisco networking associate courses offered through www.netacad.com and they require the use of this software for labs. i have found that inetsim is usable but requires linux wich i dont have. i am running windows 10 with  jaws 2020 and in the process of upgrading to jaws 2021.

Does anyone know the Brave browser shortcut for going back to the previous page? The list of shortcuts I have for Brave says it is control, left bracket but that doesn’t work.  Tom

if you press the control key the windows key and enter another screen reader will come up. This one is built in the windows it is called narrator. If narrator works then you can see what's going on with your computer and jaws.

do you have windows 10? if so press control windows plus enter to start narrator. if you can navigate windows and everything works correctly then it's a jaws issue. if narrator starts but if windows is not working correctly at least then you can use the narrator to help troubleshoot the problem if narrator doesn't work and nothing else happens you're going to need sided assistance or do a complete reinstall using narrator with windows 10.

to answer your question as another way to restart JAWS, you could press
control+alt+j if you have assigned a hotkey to the desktop shortcut.

also you can press insert+alt+f4 and wait to see if JAWS eventually
restarts. this takes a bit shorter than pressing alt+f4 and then
control+alt+j.
