Adrian, thanks for the reminder on the system menu. I knew I needed to look at that, but was having brain freeze on how to get there.

Chris, both methods for doing the find actually do find what I am looking for, but to get to the results I have to press F6 and cycle through all of the bars to get back on the webpage with the result. JAWS or edge, I don't know which, gets stuck on the top line of the page. Neither arrowing or tabbing will move it from there.

Hmmm, are you saying it never starts the find command, or the find command isn't finding what you expect? If the first, ctrl-insert-f is supposed to work, and does everywhere I've ever tried it, ff, chrome, or edge. I'd call fs if that is the case.

A way you can confirm if a window is maximized is by going into the system menu with alt-space. Here, you arrow up or down through a few options, one of which is maximized.

I don't believe it does. an alternate way to maximize is to press alt+spacebar x.

I’m having somewhat similar problems with JAWS 2021, and I also end up reverting to 2020.

 

Regarding messages with tables, I suggest opening up a message, any message, and pressing JAWS key+v to open JAWS quick settings. Type “table” into the search field, and then arrow down through the options. Actually, I’ve just checked my notes of previous posts that have worked for me, and I’ll copy them here:

 

Bill white. Try opening Outlook. Press JAWS key plus V for Quick Settings. In the search box, type table detection

Uncheck this option, TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

See if this allows your email to be read correctly.

Another answer. If the detect tables does not work, another possibility is that layout tables are causing you grief so make sure they are turned off.

Greetings from SA.  Has any one experienced the following issues with JAWS 2021 and office 365, mainly using outlook.

When trying to compose a message, or arrow through my inbox, or use the address book, Jaws tends to freeze for no reason, and I have to wait a minute or so, or alt tab around for it to respond again.  This is running on my work laptop, with office 365, and the latest build of windows 10.

Also, some times when opening an email, it will only read table coordinates, and not the contents of the email.  Any advice will be highly appreciated.  So I’ve reverted back to JAWS 2020 for the meantime.

And JAWS appears to be very slow at times, not sure if its because of all the extra background and security policies running as well.

Hello.

Why are you using the browser's own find command?  If you are in virtual pc mode, the jaws find command is the one you will want to use, it is insert-ctrl-f on the normal desktop layout.  It will work much better.

Hi Gery,

 

This is probably a long shot, but it has happened to me before in Outlook. Is your braille set to structure mode? To check this in Outlook:

 

Press insert + V.

In the search field type “braille” without the quotes.

Arrow down to “braille mode.”

If it says “line” press the spacebar until you see “structured.”

I don’t have any braille on my display when in outlook.  No preview, no info when I try to read messages.  I had thiws a while back and It had something to do with I think insert f or something.  I saved the message on my work computer and thought I had forwarded it to my home email address.  I no longer have access to my work computer since I have retired.  Does anyone remember this being on the list a month or so ago?

JAWS is reporting the correct way that Outlook and Word produce the hyphen character by default. For example:
 
The short hyphen with a space on either side, is called an "n dash" because, the hyphen is the same width as a capital letter "n". This is the same as typing "space hyphen space".
 
the long hyphen with a space on either side, is called an "M dash" because, the hyphen is the same width as a capital letter "M". This is the same as typing "space hyphen hyphen space".

I’m using Windows10 , Jaws2021 and Outlook2021 most recent versions.

Since the most recent update with Jaws2021 I will use a hyphen and when it is between two letters with a space between it sounds like is saying on. I then delete it and it then says dash.

Here is an example:

Hello – goodbye

Does this say on between the words? Has anyone encountered this issue?

Below is an example when I type the same as above, then delete the hyphen and type it back in.

Hi Mark,

I would suggest running a Jaws Repair and then if the problem persists, run a repair on Office 365. I would do an online repair of Office as it’s more thorough than a quick repair. It wil take longer, but no more than 30 minutes. Good luck.

The school that requires all students to wear a blind fold does this so everyone is on a level playing field.  True instructors can do wear a blind fold, but they can take it off at the end of the day.  Apparently at one school, a trainer took the blind fold off right away because she panicked.  Must be nice to get your sight back and have that ability.  Grin.

Here is a twist, A group of O & M instructors were at a seminare with some of their students.  The power went out and they panicked.  They went so far as to put candles on the rug so they could be guided by the candle light.  One of their students offered to guide them, they declined.  Point?  This is already been touched on, it is one thing to teach a skill but when, as they say the rubber hits the road, does the teacher practice what they teach or does fear set in? I think it is excellent that a teacher of VIPs wants to join a list like this because it gives him or her insight into our world.
