To echo what Bill pointed out, sighted readers will be a bit confused by someone using a simple hyphen between words since it is visually shorter in length, rather than the m Dash the autocorrection makes. By the way, the n dash is a dash which is longer than a simple hyphen. By unchecking this check box in the autoformat tab, the hyphen is no longer replaced by the longer dash. This is why it no longer says n dash.

Hi, Kevin and Don. To stop this behavior in Outlook and Office,
1. Open the Outlook Options dialog box. 2. click File > Options. 3. click the Mail in the left bar, and then click the Spelling and Autocorrect button in the Compose messages section. 4. In the Editor Options dialog box, click the Proofing in the left bar, and then click the AutoCorrect Options button in the AutoCorrect options section. 5. In the AutoCorrect dialog box, go to the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and uncheck the Hyphens (--) with dash (—) check box, And then click the OK button. 6. Click the OK buttons to close all dialog boxes to finish saving the settings. From now on, the hyphen will be spoken as dash instead of n dash.

Well, it is very hard to tell from the original notes, but if this application is not providing any data to JAWS in standard mode or with touch cursor (press shift-numpad plus) or JAWS cursor. then scripts from Freedom Scientific will not do much good. Unless there are millions of users of this tool, or if the developer pays for the development of scripts. Developing scripts for a new complex application can take 100's hours, one essentially has to reverse engineer the way the application talks to Windows and then create new interactions. Not to mention, if the application does not work well with a screen reader than it probably does not work well with other access technologies.
** More details below if interested ** JAWS uses Microsoft Accessibility API like MSAA and UIA to interpret what the application puts on the screen. If the development environment used by the developer does not support or poorly supports these protocols, or if the vendor creates their own widgets without providing support for these API, or if the program locks out accessibility programs from communicating with it then there is little to nothing that a AT vendor can do. JAWS scripts are great for making lists that can be seen with API, but are not navigated intuitively be able to be navigated with arrow keys, or with adding ways to jump to a part of the user interface, but if the vendor is expecting that JAWS will talk to the program with a "com" interface and have its own proprietary way of user interface specifically designed for the blind, that would be hard to develop and harder to maintain.

Sometimes I'll be typing away and when I hit the letter 'g' I'll end up somewhere else - maybe in Outlook, maybe on the internet - could be anywhere except the game bar. I restart Jaws and the problem goes away ... until next time. I thought it was an oddity in my Jaws software. These issues are now resolved. • Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR was not starting the Voice Assistant in JAWS or Fusion. • The JAWS voice commands to speak faster or slower now adjusts the speech in larger increments. • Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading table headings in Excel. • Added a new JAWS Dictionary entry for "DocuSign." • When spell checking a document in Word, resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading as expected when navigating by word through the text containing the error. • Resolved an issue where attachments were not being reported correctly in the Danish version of Outlook 2019. • In the Italian version of JAWS, addressed an issue where the keystrokes to access the Braille and Text Viewer layer, as well as the Volume layer, were not working as expected. list end Stay safe and take care.

I would like too ask the following question as it relates to the latest Jaws update that someone posted yesterday. Whenever I go to the jaws updates, It tells me that I have the latest version of jaws installed which came out in out sometime in mid December, that was jaws 2021. Here’s what I’m wondering. Both me and my girlfriend are using the version of jaws, where we use the version that is the lease too own one that we pay a subscription for every year. Does it make a differents whether or not the latest updates for jaws if you own the full license of jaws, or will the latest version of jaws that came out yesterday, be installed without any problem.

Here you go,
For Jaws users,I found that you can fast forward & reverse through the, File Types list, by turning Key Repeat on. 1. To do this, after the file types list is loaded up open the Settings Center with, Jaws Key + 6 on the number row, and if you get a new configuration message select the, Okay, option and press the spacebar. Arrow down to, User closed, and right arrow to open. 2. Down arrow to, Key Repeat not checked, and press the spacebar to check this. 3. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save and close. Now if you hold the Tab key down it will fast forward through this long list of file types and if you use, Shift + tab, you can go backwards. It's funny listening to Jaws fast forward through this long files type list because it sounds like fast forwarding a cassette tape. LOL Stay safe and take care. Mike.

I’m going through System Settings and using: Choose default apps by file type
The long list of file extensions are arranged alphabetically. I can move only one extension at a time using the Tab key. These extensions are preceded with the “point” character.
Is there a way to jump
quickly to the .M3U extension? I’d like to change it’s default.

Hi Jeff,
I switch between Windows and Linux.
I mostly use Jaws, but NVDA works better in SSH
windows, but that may not be the case in windows 10 with its built-in SSH
capability.
I use Ubuntu-Mate with the Orca screenreader, and
you can get Voxin for about 10 dollars that is the IBM and makes Orca sound like
Jaws.
I like running it in a virtual install of Linux so
I can switch back and forth with key toggles.
I use VmWare player to run Linux inside
Windows.
I recommend 8GB of RAM as a minimum as you will
want to dedicate half your RAM to the Linux, although Linux is more forgiving to
low RAM than Windows is.

Hi, Are you talking about Linux? If so, JAWS cannot run on Linux without fundamental alterations. If you are solely interested in command-line tools, Windows Subsystem for Linux 9WSL is the way to go. Cheers, Joseph
