Hoping this email was not needed and you are on your way.

The directions for SFC & DISM are mostly correct, the option you were given for DISM is the third option to use after the first two switches had been run.

If you are still convinced that your OS has gone off the deep-end, I like the media creation tool solution.

From the following  page you can choose the update now button or the download the tool button. I think either of these would solve your problems.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Just as a parting thought, during the JAWS installs that would not complete, you are certain you are placing a checkmark into the, I agree checkbox, I think it is labeled as such, and then pressing enter. I found early on that the text for these dialogs was not reading but if remembered to use the space bar and then enter, your install should proceed. Hoping this last was the issue over using the media creation tool or update assistant.

Hi, you can reset your PC in windows 10. using the reset this PC in settings. I am on a win 7 machine right now so i cant check the steps. You can also download the windows 10 update assistant and it will reset the PC with your old programs and data or do a clean install. Both methods have this option. You should runSFC and DISM. Before doing a total reset. Here are the instructions:

Fixing “Weird Issues” under Windows 8 or Windows 10 Using the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management (DISM)

If you are having "weird problems" with any Windows system, the first thing you should do is to run the System File Checker (SFC).  Open a Command Prompt window using the "Run as Administrator" option.  The easiest way to do this is to hit the Windows Key, immediately enter the text “Command Prompt” and getting the Command Prompt desktop app returned as the first item.  Gain focus on it and bring up the context menu either via right click or hitting the menu/applications key [if your machine has one] or Shift+F10 if it does not then selecting “Run as administrator” from the context menu that appears.  Once that elevated command prompt window is opened, enter:

SFC /scannow

When it's finished look at its output to see if it found any corrupt files and whether it was able to fix them.

If SFC reports that it was unable to fix something, on Windows 8 and Windows 10 systems it's also worth running the following command, also in a Command Prompt window that's been opened with "Run as Adminstrator":

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM should be able to fix errors that SFC may not be able to fix.  If you wish to be really thorough, after running DISM, and presuming it reports that all has been fixed, shutdown and restart your machine and run SFC one final time.  The SFC result should be clean.

Someone also made another suggestion which I tried and found it works--go to the Chat windows where the messages are, select all (control+a), copy to Clipboard, open Notepad, then paste and then save. I like this way best.

the speech history feature in JAWS can also be used to copy the address.
press insert+spacebar and then h, which lists the last 50 items that
JAWS has spoken. navigate the virtual window with standard cursor
navigation keystrokes, select, copy and paste the information where ever
you want.

Virtualize the cursor with insert alt 2.

You can copy everything then.

Use escape to get out of the virtualized window when you are ready too.

You might also try using the key combination control/shift v which takes you to your folder tree.  If the files you want are in this list just arrow to where you want to put the email and hit enter.  If not, arrow up to the top of the tree and essentially repeat the steps you take to move from one email to the other using your arrows.  Once you are in the email account you want arrow to target file and hit enter and voila.

It's probably possible to use first (single letter) navigation strokes  to get you to the move command through the ribbons.

If both of these accounts are in your outlook program, you can open each of the messages, one-by-one, and when open, hit alt key, go to file and down to info. Hit enter on info and then enter on move message. When you have done this, pick the other email address folder you choose to save these in. Feel free to contact me off list, I will be glad to help so not to overwhelm everybody with too many messages.

Madison,

Someone else will have to advise on importing your existing messages from your old email into the Gmail account.  The only way I know of to do this is forwarding them, and if the archive is extensive that's just not practical.  I generally do what you said, and that's keep the old account dormant, forwarding all new messages to where I want them to be, but having the archive of existing messages available for my reference when I might need to do that.  It keeps my new account "cleaner" from the outset.

When you delete a message from any account and it goes into trash it will retain the same read/unread status it had at the moment of deletion.  In the end, that really doesn't matter, as trash gets purged of messages that reach 30 days old regardless of their read or unread status.  Outlook does allow you to change how quickly a message is marked as read once you open it (and you do have to open it), but if the intention is not to open these messages, which I'd have to presume it is, then just delete them in unread state and forget about them.  Trash is trash.

Hi, Mike. Yes, what Mike says is correct. Open Word. Open Options with ALT plus F, followed by T.

Navigate to Advanced, by arrowing down, do not press ENTER. This will throw you out of settings, back to your document.

TAB to a setting which says something like,

Pasting between documents: Combo box‑
Keep Source Formatting (Default)

This is what you want.

TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

Hi guys:

The situation is,

I have two word windows open,

One has a copy of my whole textbook with headings in it for easy navigation;

The second window is simply a blank word doc that I will copy a chapter from my book on the first window into.

I notice however, after copy and paste,

In the blank word window, the headings disappeared following the paste into that window?

I only want to copy some chapters into the blank word doc because I only want jaws to continuously read up to the end of that chapter;

If I simply read from within the original textbook window,

Jaws will read past the end of the chapter I wish to stop at.

I hope this doesn’t confuse you.

Under paste special, control-alt-v, one of the options is "HTML format." So, control-alt-v, arrow up or down to HTML format, then enter. I don't know from experience if this would work in this particular case, but on the face of it, it ought to.

None kept the headings there,

They all stripped headings away.

Mike,

I just tried working with a file I have headings in. I opened the file,
set a temporary placemarker at one heading, then went a few pages down
and used the layered command M to mark my place and copied the text.
Interestingly, If I go to the new document and hit Control V to paste
it, my headings stuck. If, instead, I use the context men and paste
with "keep source formatting" the headings are stripped. I really
thought the latter approach would be better and I'm quite surprised it
strips the headings.

Are you pasting the content with a Control V?

I think at a minimum you will have to reinstall Windows.  There are ways you can recover data, but the programs are likely corrupted, so you will have to reinstall them from media or from the Internet after you reinstall Windows.

I am sorry you are having this problem. I believe it affects most of us over time. My suspicion is that you do need  to make a completely fresh install as a first step.

Then if problems do persist it does indicate a hardware issue though a computer engineer will probably want to run a utility like Belarc Advisor to get some information.

A windows reset will not, as far as I am aware, preserve your programs though you can preserve your data files. Others may be able to indicate a way of preserving your programs with a reset but I would personally not  recommend it if you are having problems as it is likely that whatever the issue is will persist.

It is a pain but re-installing all the software you need may be a chore that you will have to undergo to recover useful functionality on your machine.

You may need to run a key finder type program to make sure you have all the serial numbers etc of the software you have installed and then hopefully you can re-install what you need.

To avoid problems of this kind in the future you may want to consider investing in a disk imaging program.

With one  of these programs, after re-installing Windows and all your programs, at the stage you have your PC running perfectly you can create an image which you can then return to at any time if you have problems like this in the future. I used to do this but admit that the constant windows updates disrupts this approach. Ideally you need to image after each Windows update.

Yes I did use control-v first,

When that didn’t work,

I tried to use the shift-f10 and arrow down to paste options,

Then tried each of the buttons within that menu;

None kept the headings there,

They all stripped headings away.

Please advise as you like.

Mike,

I just tried working with a file I have headings in. I opened the file, set a temporary placemarker at one heading, then went a few pages down and used the layered command M to mark my place and copied the text.  Interestingly, If I go to the new document and hit Control V to paste it, my headings stuck.  If, instead, I use the context men and paste with “keep source formatting” the headings are stripped.  I really thought the latter approach would be better and I’m quite surprised it strips the headings.

Are you pasting the content with a Control V?

One has a copy of my whole textbook with headings in it for easy navigation;

The second window is simply a blank word doc that I will copy a chapter from my book on the first window into.

I notice however, after copy and paste,

In the blank word window, the headings disappeared following the paste into that window?

I only want to copy some chapters into the blank word doc because I only want jaws to continuously read up to the end of that chapter;

If I simply read from within the original textbook window,

Jaws will read past the end of the chapter I wish to stop at.

I hope this doesn’t confuse you.

Jim,
We tried to assist a friend by updating heer daughter's computer. It would not update or do much of anything else. I believe it was a Windows update but I am no loger sure. Another party looked at the computer and the final solution was to replace the hard drive. After that, all was well. And I havve heard of memory becoming corrupted.
These are only suggestions and hopefully they aren't the problem. Perhaps a WIN10 update would fix the proboem. There is an option to not dump the installed programs.
Good luck.

Jim,
What version of Windows?
Also, although I doubt it is the case, but is your hard drive full?
Also, did you do a check disk for errors on the C: drive and check the box to automatically fix errors?
Before reinstalling, I would do a registry check with a registry program.
I use Registry First Aid, it was not expensive, maybe 15 dollars.
If after all that, and if you think it is the hard drive, which probably is not the case, you can use Win PE to copy the c:\users folder and reinstall Windows, and you will need to reinstall your programs, and then you can put the files from your users folders back.
Or you can use the Win PE to zip up the contents of C: and put in a new HD and copy the stuff back.
If you do the latter, don't zip up the two files:
pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys
Windows recreates those temp files on startup.
Or you can use Win PE to reinstall Windows, but if it's 10, the installer from MS should bring up Narrator.
Otherwise, if you don't want to mess with Win PE, just be sure to go to c:\users\your ID\and copy the folders you want, like documents and downloads.
Here's a link to a Win PE for burning to DVD or USB:

If you think that the problem exists at the OS level, just download the media creation tool and using external hard drive to create a bootable Windows 10 installation disk. Then wipe your hard drive and start completely from scratch.
