I've encountered this problem with every JAWS build since 2018. The simplest solution to try first is to use Apps and Features or CCleaner to remove all Freedom Scientific components. If that doesn't work, download Microsoft's Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter. This is a utility that attempts to uninstall applications by removing their registry entries. Once you run the utility, select Advanced mode, leave the box checked to run in administrator mode, press enter, select Uninstall, wait for the list of applications to populate and use first-letter navigation to select the first of a dozen Freedom Scientific components. Tab to Try Uninstall and wait a few minutes. Once the component has been removed, the utility will prompt you to close it. Sadly, there's no way to select multiple applications/components or to continue using the same instance of this utility, so you must repeat the entire process for each component. Some of the Freedom Scientific components will require a reboot, but you can uninstall them all, then reboot once at the end.
Once all those components have been removed, navigate in the control panel to Add/Remove programs and remove all instances of the Microsoft C++Redistributable components. There will be components by year, sometimes going back as far as 2008. Microsoft also makes a command-line utility that uninstalls and reinstalls them all. This is apparently necessary because when JAWS installs, it also installs these components, so they must be gone before the JAWS install starts, else it will fail.
Hopefully, these solutions have worked; attempt to reinstall JAWS after removing each set of components. But, the ultimate solution is not pretty. First, manually delete all Freedom Scientific directories from Program Files, Program files (X86) and Program Data. Then, open Regedit and search for Freedom Scientific or JAWS. Delete all the registry keys. After that, Regedit will keep searching the registry for a long time, but don't be discouraged. You will then begin to see other Freedom Scientific entries. Some will appear in the value pane. When they do, shift+tab to the tree view and remove their corresponding keys.
All this is necessary because JAWS often does not install or uninstall properly, so it can't be reinstalled.

Good to know, as I'd never tweaked these.

That being said, the steps you gave all the way up through getting the context menu expanded and checking/unchecking items in the status bar display list are all MS-Word native commands.

I say this because, in my opinion and experience, it is critical for any computer user to know "what controls what."  And the commands used to do this status bar tweaking work whether or not a screen reader is involved in any way.

Obviously, the JAWS+PageDown command is a screen reader command that is processed by the screen reader unless you were to use pass through, in which case it scrolls approximately half a page at a time (presuming JAWS=Insert, which I will) as a native Word command.

If you go to the Dropbox website can you log into your account?  If so you could probably stop your account from being renewed or, contact your credit card company and tell them not to accept the charges and explain what's happening.

Hi there,

Apparently my Dropbox account has been disabled.

Yet I’ve got an email that is associated with my disabled account saying that my subscription will be renewed on the 23rd Jan.

I want to cancel my subscription but can’t access my account because it’s disabled.

Btw: I don’t know why my account has been disabled. Numerous attempts at contacting Dropbox have failed – they have not bothered to reply.

Does anyone have any idea how this issue can be resolved. I certainly don’t want to pay for another year of Dropbox.

Thanking you in advance.

Yes, you can add or remove different items that you want spoken when the, Jaws key + Page down, keystroke is invoked to read the status line.

While in Word press the, F6 key, until you hear, Status bar.

Press the applications key or shift + F10 to open the context menu.

Now arrow up / down the list of items checking or unchecking what you want heard or not heard when invoking the, Jaws key + Pabe down, keystroke.  When finished just press escape and your changes will be saved.

Stay safe and take care.  Mike.

I didn't think you could remove word count and page count from the status bar, but perhaps you can.  The zoom information is a part of the status bar as well, but it's at "the opposite end" from the page count and word count.

Tom,

Presuming that INS+NumPad 3 used to invoke the MS-Word Word Count dialog, you could just use the Word shortcut ALT+R,W.

If it didn't, I can't be of much help.  I know that sometimes JAWS does its own custom thing through scripting that makes information more easily accessible, and if that's the case you were probably not getting the MS-Word Word Count dialog.  But they also have had the habit, on occasion, of introducing a JAWS shortcut that is just an alternate way of invoking a native shortcut, and I hate that because it's generally unnecessary and the JAWS shortcut often saves zero, or sometimes one, keystroke over the native program command.

By the way, if you are someone who uses the Navigation Pane, you need only hit F6 two times to get to the status bar.  The first puts you in to the edit box for searching in the Navigation Pane, the second to the page count item in the status bar.

Hi Leo,

Have you updated J2021 with the update that came out yesterday?  I don't know if this will fix your problem but, give it a try.  This update stopped that
popping sound that so many people were having, so maybe it'll clear up your issue as well.  The download link and what's new with this release is below.

What's new:

Enhancements in JAWS 2021.2012.57 (January 19, 2021)
This update addresses a few key issues that were reported shortly after the January 2021 release.
To download the latest release, click on the link above

You must be logged on as an administrator to install this software.
list of 8 items
• A new feature was introduced earlier this month, designed to let a user change the volume of JAWS speaking or the system volume itself using a layered
keystroke: INSERT+SPACE, V followed by J for JAWS or S for System. Since this change, Eloquence users reported hearing Ticks when reading and typing, especially
around the letter O. We also had reports of the volume randomly changing when reading documents or web pages. These issues are now resolved.
•  Resolved an issue where pressing INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR was not starting the Voice Assistant in JAWS or Fusion.
• The JAWS voice commands to speak faster or slower now adjusts the speech in larger increments.
• Addressed an issue where JAWS was not reading table headings in Excel.
• Added a new JAWS Dictionary entry for "DocuSign."
• When spell checking a document in Word, resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading as expected when navigating by word through the text containing
the error.
• Resolved an issue where attachments were not being reported correctly in the Danish version of Outlook 2019.
• In the Italian version of JAWS, addressed an issue where the keystrokes to access the Braille and Text Viewer layer, as well as the Volume layer, were
not working as expected.

And this is another instance where another of the native MS-Word shortcuts works and, to my mind, is preferable.  If the Navigation Pane is not open that F6 throws focus to the status bar and then you can use the left/right or up/down arrow keys to traverse the various components of the status bar.

You can count on the program's native shortcuts, regardless of the program, to work reliably unless there is something really odd with the program installation itself.

Once again, I agree with Brian, JAWS coming up with costom keyboard commands that do not add anything that the native program does already with existing shortcuts is annoying at the very least. People end up not knowing that the insert key exists because Jaws calls it the Jaws key.
insert-numpad3 reads the status line. You may have to go into the Word settings and add word count back to the status line.
Or just use the default shortcut Brian gave.

Hi Maria,
Sorry for the delay as I was watching the inauguration this morning. Anyway, as long as you were getting groups.Iowe messages to that Hotmail account I would leave it. I was not getting groups.io emails to my .MSN (yes I know it’s old) account. As a result, I created an outlook account and I am now getting most of my group .io emails in that account. I have created folders under the inbox to separate out the messages I want to keep from each of the groups. I owe list that I am on.

Maria,
If you know how to move a message, you should be able to mark the items not as spam. In the same context menu as move, you will find some thing labeled junk (I apologize that I do not know the shortcut keys). Once you highlight junk press enter. I believe four options will appear and what you want is to select never block sender‘s domain. A dialog box will appear and all you will need to do is tap through it until you select OK. At that point all groups that I owe should stay in your inbox instead of going to the junk email folder.
The other issue could be your own Internet service provider. I have an old Hotmail style email address and it will not except most groups that I owe addresses. Even if I do the above procedure, it still will not except new groups.io emails. As a result, I created another email address and most groups that I owe messages I receive go to that email without any issues.

Hi, I don't believe that this can be a Jaws problem. Normally you have to go into the email service and mark them not a spam. This can be done on the iPhone very easy. And I believe in outlook easy as well. I haven't done it on outlook.

Does anyone know what might have changed here, and how I can get my original document file information back?

I’m using Jaws 2021, Windows 10, and Office 365 here.

I wonder if this is the result of yet another Microsoft 365 update?

Thank you!

Sorry for the confusion.

I mis-stated my original action.

It is true that HangOuts is going to be trimmed down significantly and for
video chats, calls and texting will be replaced with Google Meets.
Both are very JAWS friendly.
I discovered yesterday when inviting people to my conference, Google Meets,
all participants needed a Gmail account. He reported that there was no guest
type log in. he used his wife's account and made it.
