Hi, Korinne. To add a new profile,

1. Open Edge. Press ALT plus F for Settings and More.

2. Press Up Arrow three times for Settings, and press ENTER.

3. TAB to the Add Profile button, and press ENTER.

4. Fill in desired info for Person one, which is your new added profile.

I understand what is happening, but don't have solutions yet. The issue is that Google Docs is doing echoing with "live" regions, and JAWS is also doing echoing of characters.
You could always adjust echo  and if you create a special Google Docs profile that could be added to the Settings center for that profile. There also might be a setting in Google Docs to adjust typing echo.

Subject: Jaws & Discussion Board in Blackboard

Hi Everyone,

I'm working with a student who is using Jaws 2021 and is enrolled in an English course. The course is being delivered mostly online in Blackboard, version 9.1, I believe.

The issue we are having is with the Discussion Board. The students must post an introduction in the Discussion Board, and read and respond to at least 2 other student introductions.

When the student clicks on "Create Thread" to start his introduction,
Jaws goes into "Application Mode. In this mode, the student can type
in the Subject line, but there seems to be no way to get to the editor
where the student must type in his introduction. Well, he can get to
it by tabbing twice, but once there, he is not able to type anything
in this editor, and there is no indication that he has entered the
editor. Jaws reads "Thread: Self introduction. – ENGL-102-AS07(1) -
2021 Win..." when tabbing twice from the subject field. We can confirm that no text is being entered when typing by getting out of Applications Mode and narrowing down to where the Word count is shown, and it shows 0 words. The student is able to type his introduction in Word, copy all the text, and then paste it into the editor, but can not then read what he has pasted. We know the text has been pasted by the Word count, and once he submits his post, we are able to open it and read it with Jaws.
The same thing happens when trying to respond to another student's introduction. He is able to read the introduction, press enter on "Reply" but cannot type or even know when or if he is in the Editor.
He is able to type the response in Word, and copy and paste it into the Editor, but it seems like sometimes pressing tab twice from the subject field takes him into the editor, and sometimes he must tab 3 times, and since there is no indication that he is in the Editor, it is really hit and miss and quite frustrating.

Are there settings in Blackboard that can be changed to allow Jaws to work with the Editor in the Discussions area? Are there any Jaws settings that can be changed to make this work?

I also experience this same issue on my PC, so it's not specific to the student's computer. The problem also exists with NVDA. We are both running Windows 10 and Jaws 2021.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Russell

Let me chime in to agree with others on a strong preference for continuing to use the IE favorites rather than the clunky bookmarks in Chrome. One thing to add: when you open something from the Favorites folder, it will open in your default browser, not IE, even though you created them in IE. I very much hope that Microsoft changes its current Edge favorites to using the favorites folder in the user folder soon. Although called favorites in Edge, the whole structure is that of bookmarks in Chrome. If the big selling point of Edge is that it is supposedly part of the Windows operating system, then it should use the Favorites folder in the user folder. Creating favorites is the only thing I still use IE for.

Try hitting f12 to start a save as and see if you get any different results.

Otherwise, it sounds like the sort by groups is on in your Windows Explorer, or File Explorer as it is called now.

If that is the case, perhaps do a search on the web for changing the sort by options in File Explorer.

Hello Listers,

My MS Office updated automatically the other night.  I am currently using Microsoft Word Subscription Version 16.0.13530.20198.  This update has significantly changed how the menus work when saving a document.  Previously I could do an alt F and then hit A to do a save as.  This would bring up a dialogue box in which I could  shift tab twice and get a list of recently used folders from which I could use first letter navigation to get to a folder to open and complete the saving process.  Now when I shift tab twice I get a question about making pinned folders.  If I arrow down that list I can see folders that I have previously used but they are separated by "today", "this week" and "last week".  This same set up occurs when trying to open a document in word.  First letter navigation does not work in this configuration.  I am guessing that some view or feature that I normally use has been changed in the update.  Any ideas about what I need to do to get back to just having a recent folders or documents list that is not distinguished by today, this week and so on?

Thanks for any and all assistance.

Hi David/all,

Until Microsoft does this though, presumably there's no reason why VFO couldn't create a script to bring up a list of favourites as they do links, headings etc.

What are we paying all that money for, after all,

Korinne Bougher

Hello all,

When I type in Google Docs, I notice that JAWS announces the character that I am typing twice. I have been using JAWS with Google Docs for some time now, and it has never done this before. Is there any way to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Korinne

It works quite well with Edge, but Chrome is probably better, I can’t speak to that personally though.

How accessible is etsy?

Which are the best browsers to use?

Thanks,

O.K. Wow!  I did not know that you could copy email addresses from an Excel sheet to an email message.
Thanks for this.

Hi Tom and others,

This is not a direct answer to your question, but I have always found that editing a contact group in Outlook is a big pain and not worth the trouble, especially if the list is fairly big and people are frequently needing to be added or deleted to the group. If you use Excel, even at just a basic level, it is much simpler. You can maintain the list of these addresses in Excel, easily adding or deleting members as needed.

To address an email message, In the Excel file were you have listed the addresses in a column, simply select the list by starting on the top address and pressing Shift down arrow until you have selected all the addresses. If the list is long, from the top, instead press Control Shift down arrow and that will select all the way to the bottom of the list.

Now press Control C to copy.

Open Outlook and press Control N to start preparing a message. Then press Control V in either the To or BCC field to paste them all in. Then complete the rest of the message and send it off.
