is anywhere in the settings center I'm missing how to shut these messages
off? I don't want to turn JAWS off to the "Speech on Demand" because I'm
working with a Word document while in the meeting and need JAWS to talk to
me, just without these nonstop notifications.

I am having a similar issue with JAWS 2021 on my ElBraille.  JAWS 2021 successfully installed on my desktop computer, but not on my ElBraille.

 

FS is working on my issue, and I will let you know when they solve it.

A cool thing is that when you are muted, if you hold down the spacebar you are unmuted till you release the spacebar. So you can leave the computer unmuted, in case you can't find the stinkin' button, and hold down the spacebar to allow yourself to talk.

The space bar is a temporary unmute function, it is not a true toggle.  If you are unmuted pressing the space bar will not mute you.  Also, you must press and hold the space bar for the entire time you wish to be unmuted.  This feature must be turned on in settings, there is a check box under the audio settings.  Also in Windows it only works if your focus is in certain areas of Zoom.  Since the space bar is used by screen readers the screen reader tries to interpret pressing the space bar as a click.  This feature works much better and consistently on Mac.

The issue being that there are way, way, way more actual burn errors with optical media, which is my central point.  I have had certain machines where it was a 50/50 shot for any CD/DVD being burned whether it would ultimately work.  I have not had that experience, ever, with USB media.

Neither way is right or wrong.  I just prefer what's been, in my experience, more reliable and where the media used can be reused a virtually unlimited number of times and is way easier to carry around.  When you add the fact that many newer laptops don't even have an optical drive . . .

Mark,

If you bring up the list of Styles, and arrow down to say heading level 1 and tab, you will find buttons like, apply, modify, etc.

If you select modify, you can go through and set the font, size, attributes, whether it is centered, etc.

At the end of all that will be an option to apply to the current or save it for all documents or something like that.

I did mine a while back so don’t remember the exact phrasing.

In another thread, Robin Van Lant asked an interesting question about Word and Headings in another thread. I had a related question I thought best for a separate thread. Does anyone have experience customizing and applying Word styles with JAWS? Since a style is just a group of font and typographic settings that can be applied to line or paragraph of text, they are really helpful for people who do lots of writing for visual readers, such as students writing essays or a lawyer writing legal briefs.

Well since windows 7, people only need to put in a blank DVD and use the applications key while on the file, and go to burn ISO, or however it's worded.
But clearly some folks have trouble with even that, and I didn't feel like writing out my usual information, I prefer using Universal USB Installer myself.
But I'm sure it is appreciated by many that you have all the steps written out for those who wish to learn them.

I never burn DVDs any more either, but for simplicity sake, I suggested the DVD, because IMO, if someone cannot burn a DVD, then they likely would have more trouble writing a USB image.

I had a friend who had this trouble, and I suspected that he had a virus on
his
computer, because I had him boot to a live version of Linux on a thumb
drive,
and it did not do that.
He reinstalled Windows and it did not do it again for a while, but he later
had
the trouble again.
He eventually gave me the laptop to keep and I upgraded the OS and also
dual-boot to Linux on it, and it has been a good computer for me.
I think he was getting a computer virus that caused his anti-virus program
to
run constantly, thus over-working his computer's processor, which made it
heat
up and then the fan would run too hard.
If you got the computer new in March, then the fan probably isn't dirty, but
if
you got it used, you might need to open the bottom near the fan and blow it
out.

Well booting to Linux is a good test.
If it runs nice in Linux, then you know that it is software related.

Hi Madison,
I had a friend who had this trouble, and I suspected that he had a virus on
his
computer, because I had him boot to a live version of Linux on a thumb
drive,
and it did not do that.
He reinstalled Windows and it did not do it again for a while, but he later
had
the trouble again.
He eventually gave me the laptop to keep and I upgraded the OS and also
dual-boot to Linux on it, and it has been a good computer for me.
I think he was getting a computer virus that caused his anti-virus program
to
run constantly, thus over-working his computer's processor, which made it
heat
up and then the fan would run too hard.
If you got the computer new in March, then the fan probably isn't dirty, but
if
you got it used, you might need to open the bottom near the fan and blow it
out.

happening? I'm running Windows 10 2004, the latest Jaws 2021, and office
365. My
laptop is a Lenovo think book 13s 20r9005vus

I myself have left groups because the moderator seemed like Nero far too often.  There was also a moderator who wanted all the praise but did not want to do any of the work.  She subscribed to the idea of “Work smart”  Get others to do all of the work. Yes, my finger was sliding over to the delete key if there is a thread I’m not interested in, as with the topic that has raised the comments about lack of moderation.
