Hi,

Like the others  the only quick workaround is to re start JAWS or use Narrator to make changes.  Sometimes if the offending device is unplugged JAWS will once again pick up speech but not always.

Freedom Scientific support may be able to offer other ideas.

Dan,

Is there a way to do this if you cannot hear JAWS talking?  Only idea I have it to get sighted assistance.  Had an issue recently where JAWS would go silent when I plugged in wired earbuds. An AIRA agent helped me see that my earbuds had gotten muted when I plugged in the earbuds.  But.  I had not been able to figure out how to check the settings independently, because the only settings I could see when the earbuds were not plugged in were for my onboard speakers

Hi,

Try opening the :Utilities” menu. Scroll down to “Sound Card”.  This has a sub menu.  Check to see what JAWS is using.  You may need to select your Blu Tooth or “default” sound card settings.

Hi All,

I have searched for an answer to this, but I am not coming up with much. I have a Dell XPS laptop, am using JAWS 2020 and Windows 10, and I just purchased a Jabra Evolve 65 Bluetooth headset. It paired really easily, and the sound was great. Then, I started a zoom meeting, and I had no JAWS speech at all. Any ideas about how I might solve this issue?

Many thanks,

Cynthia

If this happens to anyone while you have sound set Jaws to use the built in sound card. This way when you plug in the problem device you will still have sound. Sometimes you may need to exit Jaws then restart jaws to force jaws to use the preferred sound card setting. I don't know why Jaws does this but it has been doing it for years.

You can try turning on Narrator. With Windows 10 it’s Windows Control Enter.

Yeah, it worked just fine on my personal laptop.  After a couple startups on my work machine, I’m no longer seeing the message.  The rep at Vispero told me it is a newer feature that allows me to see my remaining SMA updates in the help menu.  She was transferring me to tech support, but I was on hold for a bit and noticed that the pop-up wasn’t coming up anymore, so I just decided not to bother right now.  Sounds like it’s a nice-to-have, but she said it wouldn’t impact my installation.  Maybe when I install the new update it will get resolved.

I get that this is a company computer which admin access is only granted to the IT personnel. You can either wait or go ahead and get the IT guy to do it. There is no right or wrong in this process.

Hi,
Using Jaws 2021 64 bit.
After using version 8.0 of Casper for about 6 years, it now seems to
experience problems with the latest version of Win 1064 bit.
So does anyone know if the current version of Future System's Solutions
backup and recovery program,Casper version 10, is accessible with Jaws 2021?

Thanks

There are a number of PC apps that can natively speed up and slow down playback.

3 free Examples.

The SpeakOn Podcast  app will allow accelerated playback as long as you download the podcast from within the app rather than  streaming it.

Control F8 is the command to speed up. Control  F7 slow down.

VLC also has excellent playback control if you have downloaded the podcast as a media file.

Right bracket speeds up and left bracket slow down and equals returns to normal speed.

Finally Mp3DirectCut  is surprisingly one of my favourite players of media files for the excellent navigation. F8 increases the speed of playback and F7 reduces playback speed.

Subject: another podcast question

Afternoon, all:

A few months ago, my church was using the Immerse study, which I found as an audio—I forget the source, but what I do remember is that there wasn’t a way to speed it up. Is there a podcast player that works with JAWS or NVDA and can speed up something like this? I could have gotten through the readings 15 minutes earlier, had I been able to change the speed, and it drove me nuts! Thanks!

Hello netbat66,

No need to use NVDA. If he is comfortable with JAWS why he needs to poison his system?

Hi,
Using Jaws 2021 64 bit.
After using version 8.0 of Casper for about 6 years, it now seems to
experience problems with the latest version of Win 1064 bit.
So does anyone know if the current version of Future System's Solutions
backup and recovery program,Casper version 10, is accessible with Jaws 2021?

Thanks
Tom

Hi Netbat,

No I have not tried either v8 or v10 with NVDA but will try it out.

Maybe my files for Casper have been damaged somehow so intend uninstalling the existing files and installthe it again.

Thanks

Rahul,. You can change the playback speed using the native Podcasts app on an iDevice. You need to drill down to the now playing screen and the playback speed control will be at the bottom left corner. It can be set to half, normal, 1.5, and double speeds.
