moderated How do I view extensions in chrome?

Jessica D <jldail13@...>

Hi,

I’m using jaws2021 with the latest version of chrome.

I’m trying to figure out how to view what exstentions I have installed.

I’m aware that this can be accomplished through the menu, but that’s a lot of steps.

Is there a way to do it with less keystrokes?

Thanks,

Jessica

Hi all,

messages from it are forwarded to this address (the one that I'm writing this

Hello List,

I am new to Outlook 365.  My list of favorites does show up as a sighted person can see them.  When I used Outlook 2010 I could access my favorites by tabbing from my list of messages.  How do I maneuver to the favorites folder?

Thanks in advance,

moderated Sharing Talking Clock Script for Jaws translated into Spanish

Leo

Hello guys and gals,

I have successfully translated completely the talking clock script into Spanish. This script was written by David Truong and  Andrew Hart.

I was able to find the problem after one member of the Jaws list suggested Microsoft Word to encode the Spanish characters that had not been properly encoded by notepad.

I share the compressed package containing not only the scripts properly translated into Spanish but also the read me file, just in case someone here knows people that might take advantage of this.

All updates for the same version number are free. So if you are using 2020 then the December 2020 Jaws update is free.

You must be logged on as an administrator to install this software.

list of 15 items
• In the 2020 December Update, we have included a fix that will help users of ZoomText and Fusion in the future when they uninstall that version yet continue
to use later versions. There was a problem in earlier 2020 versions where it was impacting shared components with other versions such as the most recent
release. We encourage anyone who still has the 2020 versions installed, to please update  now even if you are not currently using it.
• Fixed a long-standing issue in File Explorer where JAWS would often not announce the correct number of files in the current folder.
• JAWS now properly reads as expected in Skype when moving focus back to the app without the need to first press ALT and ESC.
• When launching the Skype app included in Windows 10, JAWS now loads the correct settings files.
• While in a Zoom meeting, you can now press CTRL+SHIFT+T to find out who is currently talking. Zoom recently added this option with CTRL+2 but we were
previously using it for a JAWS feature.
• Removed the announcement of Tutor Messages in Microsoft Office Ribbons as they were very verbose when attempting to navigate.
• Resolved an issue when selecting all text (CTRL+A) in  a large Word document. This action would cause JAWS to hang for several seconds.
• Addressed an issue in Word documents where JAWS was not announcing indentation increments when pressing TAB.
• Resolved an issue in Excel where JAWS was not reading the selected item in various combo boxes in the Font dialog box.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading the Auto  Complete options in the Chrome Address bar.
• Addressed an issue where same page links were not always working as expected in Chrome or Edge Chromium.
• Added five new Japanese voices to the Add/Remove Voices utility, which allows you to sample and download Vocalizer Expressive 2 voices for use with JAWS,
ZoomText, and Fusion.
• Resolved an issue with navigating to the configuration editor in Thunderbird Email when running JAWS or Fusion.
• Addressed reports of JAWS performance issues encountered after accessing the Start menu multiple times.
• Updated braille drivers provided by Papenmeire.

Hi Stan,
Call up task manager with shift control + escape and control tab to the startup tab and uncheck it.
Assuming you are using windows 10.
In 7, you need to run a utility called msconfig with the run edit box which you get with windows + R.

This happens in all the words that contain the tilde character. I made

Hi again, Alan. One benefit I see between the JAWS keystroke (INSERT plus F11) and the Windows keystroke (Windows key plus B) is that, no matter what I do, whether I have pressed the Notification chevron button in the System Tray, or have set Windows to display all icons in the System Tray, the JAWS keystroke (INSERT plus F11) never gives me the complete list of System Tray items visible with the Windows keystroke (WINDOWS key plus b).

Hi, Alan. The difference is that, when using INSERT plus F11, JAWS acts on the ENTER key as if it is a single click, or Right click of the mouse, whereas, when WINDOWS key plus B is used to access the System Tray, Windows acts on the ENTER key as if it is a double click or left click of the mouse.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks, that's really interesting. It sounds like Custom Highlights works in a different way to what is described in the help file, is that right? Are you able to provide any examples of how you use Custom Highlights that I could replicate on my own JAWS installation? I'm keen to know what the feature does and how it works but I'm struggling to do that.

Thank you!

For example if you have an application (not a web page one!) that has a list and you are supposed to press space to select an item in the list but JAWS does not recognize this. You might find that the selected text is Bright orange background. So, bring up the custom highlight tool and it will recognize the foreground and background color of the currently focused item. You can then tell JAWS to use that foreground and/or background color to indicate an item is selected.

To test CH I've created a Word document with five paragraphs. The text in each paragraph is a different colour. I go to the fourth paragraph, which is green, and hit:
  • CTRL + INS + H and then enter to "Set foreground and background"
  • Enter again to confirm
  • The "Customer Highlight Options - WORD" dialog appears, and confirms that "SpringGreen3 on white" is set as a Highlight
  • Enter to close the dialog and return to Word
According to the help file, "Once assigned, text matching the color(s) you have specified is treated as highlighted by JAWS. For example, SaySelectedText (INSERT+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW) reads Custom Highlights you have assigned." When I hit INS + SHIFT + DOWN, I would expect JAWS to read out the green text, but it doesn't: instead, it just says "nothing selected".

What am I doing wrong?

You don't, at least not literally.   The Virtual Ribbon is a JAWS feature and turning it on or off is done in JAWS settings.  The virtual ribbon acts as a mask or skin for the actual ribbons used by Windows or application programs, but they are still there because they have been the standard user interface under Windows for many years now.

Bill,

Doesn’t work for me, it simply moves volume up and down, same as left and right arrow. I have to hit application key then arrow down to mixer. Don’t understand why all systems don’t work the same

Hi, Alan. If you press ENTER on the Speakers icon in System Tray, there should be no need to press the Applications key. Arrowing down should reveal the Open Volume Mixer option.

I had the same problem. I think Bill met hit the applications key, then arrow down. I did this and got to where he indicated.

Hi Bill,

Yes, I am running Windows 10, but when I pressed enter on Speakers, I did not see volume mixer. It said something like “speakers real teque high definition audio”, and volume left-right slider, one of one. When tabbing, the only option was “mute toggle check box not checked”.

I hope you will be able to explain this issue.

Best,

Gezim

Hi, Jezim. If you're running Windows 10, to adjust JAWS volume,

1. Look for the Speakers icon in System Tray, and press ENTER.

2. Arrow down to Volume Mixer, and press ENTER.

3. TAB to the Volume for JAWS for Windows FSSynth32 COM object slider, and adjust as desired.

4. TAB to the Volume for Application file for JAWS slider, and also adjust as desired.

5. This should set JAWS to its highest setting for the level for which you have the speakers set.

Subject: Adjusting JAWS volume

Hi list,

For some reason, suddenly JAWS volume on my PC was lowered; I went to system tray and increased the speaker from 16 to 26 and now I can hear it better, but after restarting PC, I found JAWS volume on log on screen to high as set on 26, but after signing in, the unchanged set volume was still lower.

I tried experiencing this after upgrading JAWS, but I believe it is a coincidence.

Perhaps I was not able to explain the issue properly, so please feel free to ask me for clarifications.

Thank you in advance,

Gezim
