The http: part is always assumed. In fact your browser cannot be invoked without it. Because www. Is such a common prefix for web domains, though, if you enter in something like www.google.com into the run box, it *will* work – I am not sure but I guess the http:// is automatically invoked by Windows. However, typing in something like mbasic.facebook.com will not work. Windows has no way of telling that it’s supposed to be a URL.

As to the problem this person is having – it’s just a thought, but do they have any third party security software running? Perhaps try temporarily disabling it. Maybe it is preventing file explorer (which controls the run dialogue box) from invoking a browser.

Hi All,

I ran into a strange problem on a friend's Windows 7 Home computer.  When you type a URL into the Run Dialogue nothing happens!  I checked to make sure a browser was selected as the default and that all program associations were selected but, still nothing happens when you press enter on a URL from the Run Dialogue.

You can type, Notepad, or other commands into the Run Dialogue and you'll go straight to them but, for whatever reason URL's don't work, so to speak.  Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this issue?  All help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks much.

The more complaints FS gets about this issue the more likely fixing it will become a higher priority.  Though there is an obvious workaround, Marie is correct that a workaround and a solution/fix are not one and the same.

Hi, Chris. Are you, by chance, using the new $90 per subscription to JAWS instead of using a 2-year SMA? If so, this is part of the problem. The new licensing scheme is causing problems for JAWS users. Try quitting JAWS with JAWS key plus F4, then restart JAWS using the shortcut on the desktop, or,

Press Windows key plus R for the run dialog.

At this dialog, type in the JAWS version you are running, E.G.

I’m sure there may be some of you out there who belong to a Google group of some kind and who maybe have tried to read messages not in your inbox but on the page of the  group you belong to.  This is the situation with me.  I am having trouble getting messages on my group’s page even just to open.  I find where the message is.  If it is unread I hit the enter key, but instead of opening the message nothing happens and the message just remains still.  I am using the latest version of JAWS and am using Windows 10.  One of you suggested I hit insert+Z to disable turn the virtual cursor off and try from there.  I did, but it didn’t work.  If any of you out there belong to a Google group and have tried reading messages from the group’s page, can you give me some tips on how to open and how to read such messages using JAWS?

The 3 channel mixer I got from Amazon works perfectly. I have JAWS running
through one channel and Zoom running through the computer speakers and if
I want I can hear both at the same time. It even has a microphone jack which I
used as a test and recorded a zoom meeting. The host is narcistic and does not
like any of her imperfections repeated. Thus when a meeting is put to print or
notes, all of her flaws are taken out. The sad thing is though, some important
info is left out as well. Oh, well, no one is perfect and being a facilitator takes

I have had many problems with those USB sound cards and Jaws -- a lot of it
was hum -- I connect the phone jack to a mixer I have and I tried many usb
sound cards and I had to actually get a dac to solve my hum problem -- a lot
more expensive but it actually worked.

The 3 channel mixer I got from Amazon works perfectly. I have JAWS running through one channel and Zoom running through the computer speakers and if I want I can hear both at the same time. It even has a microphone jack which I used as a test and recorded a zoom meeting. The host is narcistic and does not like any of her imperfections repeated. Thus when a meeting is put to print or notes, all of her flaws are taken out. The sad thing is though, some important info is left out as well. Oh, well, no one is perfect and being a facilitator takes training.

I have had many problems with those USB sound cards and Jaws -- a lot of it was hum -- I connect the phone jack to a mixer I have and I tried many usb sound cards and I had to actually get a dac to solve my hum problem -- a lot more expensive but it actually worked.

Your life is like a penny. You're going to lose it. The question is:
How do
you spend it?

moderated Problem with jaws.

Chris Hill

I have jaws set to speak at the logon screen, and to start speaking after I log in.  The problem I'm having is that once it starts up again, insert-j does nothing.  If I quit jaws and restart, it works fine.  I tried a repair, and that didn't change anything.  It looked so promising on first boot, but I rebooted again, and it was back to problems.  I'm stumped.
