Mesage For Jim Weiss
Robbie Curtis
Hey Guys,
I know this might be unusual, but I don't know if my messages are getting to Jim Weiss' inbox. So Jim this is for you: VmWare and Windows Question Hi Jim and thanks for responding so quickly. Hope things are going well with you. I have noticed that when I log into Windows through VmWare that the fan runs high and the cpu usage goes up. I searched through VmWare's blog and support pages and found out that it has something to do with the graphics manager and I need to place a couple of lines in the .vmx file. The instructions say to right-click on the vmware library and choose content package and then find the .vmx file. As you know there is no keyboard shortcut to right-click using Mac. Do you know of any alternative way to get to this file? Again, thanks for responding and I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Jaws and firefox
Tony
I’ve had the opposite experience with browsers. I used to use FF but it was getting very slow on most pages. I was advised to switch to Chrome which worked for s few months until some site changes were made. It would only load some pages on a main site on Windows 7 and none on Windows 10.
I ended up using Chrome for part of the site and FF for the rest on the older Windows 7 machine. Fortunately, the site was changed again and now workds in Chrome and Windows 10.
Both Chrome and FF seem to gobble memory if allowed to sit idle for a while.

What is a not well known but great JAWS commands
Mark
Just today I learned that if you turn JAWS help mode on with JAWS + 1 and then double tap a key command, you get a slightly different help description than if you press a key onces. I had no idea about it. Do you have any favourite but not well known JAWS commands? or commands that took you a long time to discover?

Re: Connecting older APH Refreshabraille 18 to Jfw2021 on Windows 10
The only thing wrong with it that I can see is that the battery is just about out of juice. It gets about 5 or 6 hours when not plugged in, but if I keep it mostly plugged in, it works fine. It even connected to my iPhone running iOS 14 which is where i sometimes used it. Only using it now while I'm waiting for my Orbit to get here tomorrow.

Thanks Richard. I downloaded and installed the USB driver. Apparently, it works if you don't plug it in to a USB3 port, which I guess I accidentally did. Even the bluetooth problems are solved now. ~Ann

Re: Jaws and firefox
Jim Pursley
I find that Firefox 83 and JAWS 2021 work fine, though I'll
experience an occasional crash. I find FF faster than Edge,
surprisingly, when loading pages. I've also found that browsers
and apps load faster using the desktop icons than using
alt/control and a letter to open them.
I have found that FF works best on some sites while Edge Chrome
works better on others. In particular, page material is
occasionally presented differently in the two browsers. All the
more reason to have at least two browsers.

Re: Jaws and firefox

It was crashing a bit a couple of Firefox versions back, but for me, it seems prettys table now. It still loads pages slower and is generally less “snappy” than chrome, but Chrome tends to crash if I leave the window for a good amount of time and then return to it – Chrome is comletely unresponsive. This seems *fairly8 consistent actually. Firefox is just a bit off a slow browser it seems, but it’s pretty dependable for me on my Windows 10 machine running JAWS 2018 and NVDA 2020.2. There are definite advantages to using both though. I’m certainly using Chrome more than I used to.

uia again, an apology
Hi all again, I just wanted to rectify things with regard to uia. A few days ago and after upgrading to jaws2021, I stated that with uia, the control-down arrow would not show selected text on my braille display. Actually, the culprit is not uia, but pan of text paragraph, which I had turned on. I reactivated uia having disabled pan of text paragraph, and selection of text behaved as normal. Just in case it may be helpful, Cheers, Takis
